Fu Shinian took Qiqi upstairs to change her clothes, and by then, the rain outside had intensified, as if a hole had appeared in the sky. With flashes of lightning and thunder, the atmosphere was rather terrifying. Even though Fu Shinian was holding Qiqi, she still shivered and hid in his embrace, not daring to open her eyes.

Seeing Qiqi like this, Su Mu couldn’t help but feel tender-hearted. She had always been scared of rainy days, especially now with the thunder and lightning. She couldn’t help but speak up,

"Qiqi should not go back; she is scared of this kind of weather."

"Are you still leaving?"

"Does Qiqi miss her mother?" The elderly lady glanced towards the floor-to-ceiling windows where the raindrops formed continuous lines, relentlessly streaming down, "It’s too dangerous to drive in such heavy rain. Just rest here for the night. Let Shinian sleep in the guest room, and you and Qiqi can take the master bedroom."

With the elderly lady stepping in, Su Mu found it hard to insist on her plan, but she was determined to not stay overnight here no matter what. Perhaps she could first put Qiqi to sleep upstairs and then leave quietly with Fu Shinian staying by her side.

"Understood, grandma. I’ll take Qiqi upstairs to sleep now."

The elderly lady smiled at the response, looking very pleased. She quickly waved her hand, "Go on, it’s getting late. Put the child to sleep and you both should rest early too."

Though the remark sounded a bit ambiguous, Su Mu knew the old lady meant no harm. She smiled faintly, bid the elderly lady goodnight, and went upstairs.

Back in the master bedroom, Su Mu lay on the bed she had once shared with him for two years, over three years after they parted. She thought she would resist, but when the day actually came, there was no resistance at all. She lay in the covers telling stories to Qiqi, who stared at Su Mu without a hint of sleepiness:

"Mu, why don’t you want to sleep here? Fu Shinian said that this was the room where you two used to live together, and that this was where I was conceived."

Su Mu frowned slightly,

"Don’t listen to his nonsense."

"How am I speaking nonsense?" Fu Shinian pushed the door open just in time to hear her, and couldn’t help but retort, "Are you saying it’s not true?"

Su Mu got up slightly, warily looking at him,

"What are you doing here?"

"It’s naturally because I am worried about Qiqi being scared, and I came to stay with her."

Qiqi immediately leaped up upon hearing the words and excitedly danced around as she flipped open the other side of the blanket:

"Fu Shinian, come here, come here, you lie on this side."

Fu Shinian cracked a slight smile, still finding his little lover more thoughtful, but before he even reached the bed, Su Mu had already risen from it. She looked at Fu Shinian, "Don’t push your luck."

"It’s not me asking for this, it’s our daughter who wants me to do so."

"When she thinks that way, you should tell her immediately that it’s not suitable, instead of agreeing to everything she wants."

Fu Shinian licked his lips:

"I don’t see what’s inappropriate. You are her mother, I am her father; isn’t it natural for a family of three to lie in the same bed?"

"You..."

Fu Shinian was abruptly tossed down and pulled Qiqi to lie beside him as well: "Qiqi, it’s getting late; it’s time to sleep."

Qiqi was somewhat conflicted. Seeing Su Mu’s puffed-up appearance, she instantly turned to Fu Shinian and said,

"Fu Shinian, get out."

Fu Shinian could barely believe his own ears as he looked at Qiqi, "What did you say?"

"Get out. I don’t want you to sleep with me anymore. When you are here, Mom doesn’t hug me, I don’t want you, I want her."

Fu Shinian: "Wouldn’t it be fine if you asked her to come over and hug you too?"

"Do you think she will come over with you here?"

Just as Qiqi finished speaking, a thunderclap sounded outside, causing her to shriek in fright. Fu Shinian reflexively tried to wrap his arms around her, but Qiqi quickly ran to Su Mu, and only when Su Mu held her tightly, did she calm down slightly. Fu Shinian frowned slightly,

Qiqi’s breathing then slowly became even, but her little hands were still tightly wrapped around Su Mu’s neck. Any movement from her would cause Qiqi to anxiously open her eyes, and only when confirming that Su Mu was still by her side would she continue to sleep.

Su Mu sighed softly, having no choice but to continue lying down, waiting for Qiqi to fall completely asleep. However, she couldn’t forget there was another person in the room who had not left since the beginning and had been watching her all along, even though Su Mu never looked at Fu Shinian; she could feel his gaze constantly on her.

She wanted to ignore it, but his presence was too strong, impossible to overlook. But due to Qiqi, Su Mu didn’t say anything to avoid waking her.

After a while, as Su Mu was getting sleepy too from Qiqi’s even breathing, she suddenly heard soft footsteps behind her, jolting her awake. Before she could react, Fu Shinian had already lain down behind her, and she instinctively resisted but was silenced by Fu Shinian covering her mouth:

"Qiqi just fell asleep, don’t wake her."
