Su Mu smiled slightly, "Do you think I would be at ease letting you drive back alone while fatigued?"

"I am a man."

Wen Han said nothing but planted a soft kiss on Su Mu’s forehead. She was momentarily startled before she reacted with a small smile:

"So... I’m leaving now?"

"Mm, be careful on the road."

Worried about Qiqi, Su Mu didn’t slow her speed on the way. It started raining later, and for safety, she slowed down a bit. Normally it took nearly an hour from the Military Region Compound to Bishui Yuntian, but this time she made it in half that time, even in such adverse weather.

Fu Shinian was the one who opened the door. Seeing Su Mu alone, especially with her clothes drenched, he frowned slightly:

"Did you come by car yourself?"

"Otherwise?" Su Mu gave Fu Shinian a puzzled look, took off her shoes, and without even bothering with slippers, walked straight into the living room. What she hadn’t anticipated was that Qiqi showed no sign of fear at all. "Mu Mu, you’re here?"

It was just a simple greeting. She didn’t run over to be hugged, nor did she show any previous emotions of missing her. It was completely different from her demeanor over the phone earlier. Su Mu couldn’t help but suspect something and slowly turned her gaze to Fu Shinian:

"What’s going on here?"

Fu Shinian didn’t hide anything and sat down next to Qiqi, beginning to build blocks with her:

"What do you think? Whatever happened at the Wen Family has concluded. I’ve already spent an afternoon with them, which is my bottom line. But what time is it now? It’s after 10 pm, you still haven’t shown a sign of returning. Are you planning to spend the night at the Wen Family’s?"

"Did you have Qiqi call me on purpose?"

Fu Shinian smiled slightly, looking up at Su Mu:

"It wasn’t on purpose. Qiqi really did miss you."

Then he looked at Qiqi, "Right, Qiqi?"

"Mm," Qiqi nodded in agreement, then turned back to Su Mu, "Mu Mu, Qiqi really missed you."

In front of Qiqi, Su Mu couldn’t say anything too harsh, but she really couldn’t agree with Fu Shinian using Qiqi this way. Fu Shinian grunted lightly, "I’ll take that as a blessing then."

Caught between the two’s banter without feeling unhappy, Qiqi seemed rather excited. Su Mu glanced at the time; it was already past ten. She hadn’t taken care of Qiqi for a few days, and her living habits were already disrupted by Fu Shinian. It seemed better to minimize contact in the future:

"Qiqi, it’s time to go home."

Qiqi glanced at Fu Shinian but did not get off his lap. Instead, blinking innocent eyes at Su Mu, she said:

"Mu Mu, Fu Shinian is right. It’s raining hard outside, and there’s thunder and lightning. It’ll be unsafe for us to go back. Since there are so many rooms here, why don’t we just sleep here for the night and go home with you tomorrow?"

Su Mu wasn’t able to discern whether these words were Qiqi’s own thoughts or coached by Fu Shinian, but either way, Su Mu would not stay over for the night. "Are you sure you want to stay here?"

"Will this house eat you up? Are you so reluctant to stay here?"

"Don’t you know the reason why I won’t stay here?" Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian, "I promised Wen Han that I would call him once I got home, to video chat and reassure him. I am his girlfriend now, and after all that has happened to him, if I were to spend the night here at your place, what would that make me?"

Seeing Su Mu’s determined stance, Fu Shinian knew she would not stay the night no matter what and smiled slightly:

"In that case, I’ll take you and your daughter back."

Saying that, he squatted down to meet the gaze of Qiqi who was watching them, and smiled slightly, "Shall we accompany Mommy home together?"

Though Qiqi was reluctant, Fu Shinian had spoken, and what more could she say? She nodded faintly, "Okay."
