Chapter 414: Chapter 414: Knowing Yet Not Telling

According to Fu Shinian’s argument, does Su Mu’s safety over the last three years only indicate that she has been lucky? In actuality, she had always been living in danger and never left it.

Su Mu cracked a slight smile:

"Maybe it’s not that that person is tied up with something else, rather, it could be that she’s dead."

"Of course, I hope that’s the conclusion, but no matter what, I need to know who this person is. Only by identifying her can I determine what exactly she wants to do." Fu Shinian looked at Su Mu, "I know it’s not easy for you to accept Lin Ning again, but now is a special time, so it’s better for you to take her wherever you go. It’ll be safer."

Su Mu didn’t speak, silently contemplating.

Fu Shinian watched her for a few seconds, then broke the silence:

"If you’re okay with it, while you’re away in the mountains these few days, Qiqi can be taken care of by me."

Su Mu looked up at Fu Shinian:

"That was your intention all along, wasn’t it? I’m going on a business trip, so you intentionally brought Qiqi to Bishui Yuntian today."

"I can’t deny that I indeed had this thought, but it still depends on what you think. I can’t force you."

"Have you forced me to do few things these past few days?"

Fu Shinian chuckled softly but didn’t say anything more.

Before long, a knock on the private room’s door was heard, and Song Yi walked in, handing two bags over to Fu Shinian. After receiving them, Song Yi retreated, and Su Mu, seeing no other small rooms in the private room, also prepared to leave. However, just then, Fu Shinian spoke up:

"Where are you going?"

"You’re about to change clothes; obviously, I need to leave."

"I’m changing mine, why do you need to leave?" he said, standing up and beginning to take off his shirt, adding nonchalantly, "It’s not like you haven’t seen it before, what’s there to be shy about?"

Su Mu paid no mind to his rogue-like remarks. But Fu Shinian now stood blocking the door, having taken off his top and beginning to remove his pants. Knowing he wouldn’t let her leave easily, Su Mu could only turn around. Fu Shinian chuckled softly upon seeing this but said nothing, inadvertently glancing at the gunshot wound on his abdomen as he dressed. This memory brought him back to the previous conversation he had with Su Mu in the hospital ward.

He looked at her back:

"Su Mu, did Wen Han ever tell you about my injury?"

"No, why would he mention that to me?" Su Mu replied quickly but then suddenly realized something. She whirled around, just in time to see Fu Shinian pulling up his pants, and, in a moment of embarrassment, quickly turned back around. Fu Shinian saw this and let out a slight chuckle, "If this was the first time you’d seen me like this, I’d understand, but considering what our relationship was before, don’t you think your reaction is a bit overdone?"

Ignoring his teasing, she simply said:

"Let me know when you’re done."

Fu Shinian remained quiet for a while, but when he spoke again, his voice was right beside Su Mu’s ear:

"I’m done."

So close, close enough to be by her ear, Su Mu turned to see Fu Shinian’s face, and despite knowing him for so many years, she hadn’t been aware that he could move so silently; she instinctively stepped back:

"You’re done; so why are you so close to me?"

"I didn’t want you to miss what I had to say, deeply immersed in thought as you were." Fu Shinian smiled, "See, how efficient – I speak, and you hear."

Su Mu looked at him, speechless, then directly asked:

"What did you mean by your earlier question?"

"Which question?"

"You asked if Wen Han had told me about your injury."

Fu Shinian smiled, turned around, and sat on a chair behind him, "Do you remember the first time you asked me if I was the one who saved you in the underground parking garage? What was my answer? I told you to ask Wen Han, saying he also knew about the incident."

Su Mu stared at Fu Shinian, silent, the doubt and disbelief clearly visible in her eyes. Fu Shinian was not surprised and straightforwardly said:

"The kidnapping case back then wasn’t directly overseen by Wen Han, but he was called back to the station at that time. Do you think he wouldn’t care about the progress of a case that concerned you? He found clues at the scene, came to the hospital to ask me if I had been there, and if I had been hurt."

"He... just suspected it."

"Yes, but when he came into the ward, you had just left, and I had just been slapped by you. My wound had reopened, and Jiang Bei was treating it for me. Do you think he couldn’t see that?"

There was silence from Su Mu, and Fu Shinian continued:

"He’s known for three years that I was at the scene, that I saved you, but he never told you anything. I’m not criticizing him; I just want you to know that the person you think is the best in the world might not be exactly as you imagine."

Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian. After a long while, she spoke:

"Since he knew you were hurt, then surely you must have instructed him not to tell me in order to perfectly complete the plan, right?"

"Yes, I did request that of him, and he complied, for which I thanked him."

Fu Shinian admitted it was he who asked Wen Han not to disclose the injury to her, but Su Mu’s heart wasn’t much relieved. She remembered that scene vividly, when he sat beside her as she came down the corridor, acknowledging that he had saved the young girl all those years ago, yet not uttering a word about Fu Shinian’s injury.

Of course, Su Mu didn’t believe Wen Han was lying to her; she was just struggling to describe her feelings at the moment. After all, she had thought that everyone in the world could possibly hide something from her, except for Wen Han. But it turned out that assumption was just that, an assumption, and even Wen Han had his secrets from her.

The food on the table had long gone cold, untouched by anyone. Seeing that Su Mu had lost her appetite, Fu Shinian simply said:

"It’s getting late; I’ll drive you back."

Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian:

"I need to go pick up Qiqi."

Fu Shinian replied, "Alright."

Although Fu Shinian had expressed a wish for Qiqi to stay with him while Su Mu was away on a business trip, he ultimately didn’t insist that evening. Wanting to bring Qiqi home, Fu Shinian took Qiqi and dropped her off at Su Mu’s apartment in Jiang Bei. In fact, Qiqi seemed quite reluctant to part with Fu Shinian. If Su Mu hadn’t been upset, Qiqi might have even insisted on taking Fu Shinian upstairs.

Su Mu was feeling very confused, but when Wen Han called, she still answered. Wen Han’s voice was as tender as always, showing no hint of displeasure despite knowing she was with Fu Shinian:

"I’ve finished up here. Call me when you’re done, and I’ll come to pick you up."

Su Mu was quiet for a few seconds:

"Wen Han, I’m already back. I’m now at Xiaobei’s apartment, getting ready to sleep."

There was a few seconds of silence on Wen Han’s end before he let out a slight chuckle:

"That’s good. You must be very tired today. I won’t disturb you any further. Rest early; I’ll come pick up Qiqi tomorrow."
