Chapter 413: Chapter 413: The Mystery of That Year, Truthfully Revealed

Wen Han turned around to look at Su Mu and smiled faintly, reaching out to touch her face:

"Why are you apologizing to me?"

"I forgot to tell you when I came back this time."

"I knew you came back because of Jiang Bei’s issue. You must have been extremely anxious when you couldn’t get in touch with her, so it’s inevitable to have some oversights." Wen Han smiled lightly, "Even if you had called me, I probably wouldn’t have had the time to answer. I’ve been catching criminals for the past day and night."

Su Mu looked at Wen Han:

"Did you get hurt?"

Wen Han smiled and shook his head: "No, it’s just a few small fry, don’t worry."

Su Mu nodded, after a few seconds of silence, she spoke:

"Fu Shinian came back with me. He helped me find where Jiang Bei was because Jiang Bei was with Rong Shen, so Fu Shinian accompanied me. He said he did me a favor and insisted on me treating him to a meal. I refused, but..."

"I know." Wen Han cut her off: "You don’t need to specifically explain these things to me. I’m well aware of what kind of person you are, so I understand."

Su Mu felt a heavy sense of guilt; she had indeed forgotten to inform Wen Han. However, Wen Han’s mention of being unable to answer the phone was likely to comfort her. Despite having done the wrong thing, he was trying to find a reason to alleviate her guilt, which made Su Mu feel a great deal of pressure and gave a small smile:

"You have colleagues to dine with, so I will head back first."

"Today isn’t a formal occasion, so I won’t bring you in. Another day when we have time, I will treat them to a meal with you, so you can officially meet." Wen Han looked at Su Mu, "Don’t dwell on the little interlude just now. They are all brothers who I’ve been through life and death with. They won’t overthink it."

Su Mu nodded, her smile at the corners of her mouth a bit forced: "Okay, I got it."

As she turned to leave, Wen Han stopped her:

"Since Fu Shinian helped you today, it’s only right to thank him, and if a meal can resolve it, then don’t put it off for later. Go ahead, I’ll finish up here and then take you home."

Su Mu wanted to say something more, but her throat felt like it was clogged with cotton. Sometimes, not all understanding and consideration are comforting. Wen Han’s actions, although entirely considerate of Su Mu’s feelings, only made her feel burdened.

Wen Han turned and entered the private room, while Su Mu stood in place for a long time, uncertain of what to do next. She couldn’t even guess what Wen Han actually meant, whether he wanted her to leave or really wait to join him?

So tired.

Su Mu let out a slight sigh and decided to leave, but to do so meant passing by the private room where Fu Shinian was. The door to the room was open, and Fu Shinian saw Su Mu, who wanted to leave, and smiled faintly:

"The dishes are all served, are you sure you won’t have a bite?"

Su Mu felt the urge to smash all the dishes on Fu Shinian but reason told her she couldn’t do that. So, she suppressed her anger, walked into the private room, took the glass of red wine in front of Fu Shinian and splashed it on his face. He simply closed his eyes through the sequence, and when Su Mu put down the glass, Fu Shinian smiled too:

"Feeling better? Now that you are, sit down and join me for a meal. I didn’t mean to embarrass you; I do have something serious to talk to you about."

Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian as he calmly wiped his face with a tissue and suddenly felt calm, realizing she had been somewhat excessive. Although Fu Shinian’s behavior wasn’t upright, it’s not like she had anything urgent to discuss with him, especially since Qiqi was still at Bishui Yuntian.

She sat down opposite Fu Shinian:

"What do you want to talk about?"

Fu Shinian gave Su Mu a glance and smiled slightly. He made a call, presumably to Song Yi, as Su Mu clearly heard Fu Shinian asking the other party to bring over a set of clothes.

After hanging up the call, Fu Shinian looked at Su Mu and spoke directly:

"The kidnapping case from three years ago, I want to talk to you about that."

Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian: "What is there to say? I already know everything I should, and even what I shouldn’t."

"Is that so? But even I only recently learned of something I had always mistaken. I pondered whether to tell you or not. Previously, I thought it best not to, but hearing that you will be going to the mountains for a brochure shoot tomorrow, I felt it necessary to tell you."

"How did you know?" Su Mu’s mind immediately went to Lin Ning: "Is Lin Ning still working for you?"

"No, I just called her to ensure your safety recently. I laid out all the potential risks for her, and only after that did she tell me this bit. She originally wanted to apologize to you herself, but I thought it best if I told you."

Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian and remained silent.

"When you were kidnapped, grandma had a virus outbreak. I always thought it was a trap orchestrated by Shi Lihua, since it was too coincidental. For these three years, I always believed the person who shot at you in the underground parking lot was Shi Lihua, but recently her conviction came through. She denied this crime, claiming she’s never been to the parking lot."

"What are you implying?" Su Mu frowned slightly: "Do you mean to say, the person who shot at me back then, was actually someone else?"

"Yes."

Seeing Su Mu’s panic, Fu Shinian couldn’t help feeling distressed. He didn’t want to drag Su Mu into this whirlpool, thinking it was enough to protect her from the shadows. But no matter the protection, it was also necessary for her to stay vigilant.

"You needn’t worry too much. I’m trying my best to investigate. Though there’s no result yet and I don’t know who it is or what their motive is, we will find out. I absolutely won’t allow any danger to befall you."

Su Mu was silent for a long time. She always wondered whom she could have offended in her simple and mundane life that would want her dead. But no matter how much she pondered, she couldn’t think of anyone; she never made enemies, and now she faced an unprovoked disaster.

Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian: "If it wasn’t Shi Lihua who did it, why haven’t I faced any similar dangers in the past three years? Could it be that Shi Lihua denied this charge in order to reduce her sentence? Otherwise, the person who wanted me dead wouldn’t let me go, right?"

"It’s because I thought the same as you, so I never suspected anyone else. But Shi Lihua’s sentence has been set to 30 years; she will live out the rest of her life in prison. She admitted to all of her crimes, including the harm to my father back then. Do you think she would deny this one?"

"Then these three years..."

"The only explanation." Fu Shinian looked at Su Mu: "Over these three years, as we encountered mishaps, the person who wanted to kill you also met with an accident, which stopped them from coming after you."
