Chapter 387: Frank Praise, Representing What?
Chapter 387: Chapter 387: Frank Praise, Representing What?
Zhou Yaxian brought a light dinner for Qiqi, but didn’t bring one for Su Mu, instead she instructed Wen Han:
"I and Shaoyuan will stay here to accompany Qiqi, you take Su Mu to eat something tasty, and then drop her off at home to rest well; I’ll stay at the hospital with Qiqi tonight."
"No need, Auntie." Su Mu refused, "With Qiqi in the hospital, even if I go home I won’t be able to sleep well. Besides, it’s no different from being at home here, I can rest on the bed next to hers."
"I know you’re worried about Qiqi, but you have to take care of your own health as well, you haven’t even looked in the mirror today, have you? Your complexion couldn’t get any worse. Just listen to me and go back to rest properly; I’ll take good care of Qiqi."
Su Mu naturally understood Zhou Yaxian’s concern, but she truly wasn’t at ease about leaving Qiqi. Although she was outgoing with everyone, only she, as her mother, knew that Qiqi would still be reserved around others, even someone as familiar as Zhou Yaxian. Su Mu feared leaving Qiqi with Zhou Yaxian might make her uncomfortable.
Moreover, Zhou Yaxian was not young anymore. It troubled Su Mu’s heart to have an elder stay in the hospital to take care of a sick person, but Zhou Yaxian had put it so straightforwardly that if Su Mu refused again, it would seem like she didn’t trust her. Fortunately, this time Wen Han spoke up, helping Su Mu out of the dilemma:
"Mom, you are a mother too. If I was as sick as Qiqi and staying in the hospital at her age, would you leave me alone to go home and rest?"
"Of course, when you were little and sick, I don’t think I was ever by your side."
Wen Han: "..."
Su Mu silently laughed out, while Wen Han’s expression grew even more dejected. He realized his mom really knew how to discomfit him.
Seeing Su Mu’s unease, Zhou Yaxian did not insist further and spoke up:
"If you’re really not at ease, I won’t force you, but let Wen Han stay with you, and you should also go home during dinner time to freshen up, don’t exhaust yourself."
Su Mu no longer declined and smiled with gratitude:
"Thank you, Auntie."
After giving some instructions to Qiqi, Su Mu and Wen Han left. As they walked out of the hospital, Wen Han asked Su Mu:
"What do you feel like eating?"
Su Mu shook her head: "I’m not in the mood to eat; maybe we should just go home first, I really need to change my clothes, they’re beginning to smell unbearable."
Wen Han gave a slight smile:
"That’s fine too; after you freshen up at home, I’ll cook some food for you, that’s healthier."
"No need to go to all that trouble, just order takeout."
"That’s not up to you." He said, and then he took Su Mu’s hand and strode towards his car. Su Mu looked down at their intertwined hands and suddenly remembered what Fu Shinian had told her before, filling her with complex emotions.
Su Mu was so lost in thought that she didn’t even notice Wen Han opening the car door for her. Wen Han stood still, watching Su Mu for a few seconds, then smiled softly, bent over and scooped her up horizontally. Just as Su Mu let out a yelp, he had quickly placed her in the passenger seat. He didn’t immediately pull away, instead, he leaned one hand on the back of the passenger seat, and placed the other on the car’s dashboard, staring intently into Su Mu’s eyes from a close distance:
"What are you thinking about?"
Su Mu had not yet recovered from Wen Han’s earlier action when she looked into his calm, silent eyes. Wen Han gave a faint smile:
"I don’t know why, but I suddenly really wanted to kiss you."
Su Mu snapped back to reality, her eyes inadvertently widening. Before she could say anything, Wen Han had already quickly closed the distance between them. Just as Su Mu stretched out her hand to stop him, his warm lips had already landed on her forehead, and her heart, about to leap out of her chest, suddenly quieted down.
Wen Han pulled back, glanced at Su Mu’s hand placed in front of her chest ready to reject, and smiled slightly:
"Don’t like it?"
Su Mu nervously pursed her lips:
"No, it’s just too sudden. I wasn’t ready."
Wen Han rubbed her hair and said nothing more, then closed the car door, walked around the car, and got in from the other side.
Su Mu was truly tired. Despite the ambiguous moment she had just shared with Wen Han, she slowly closed her eyes in the moving car. Noticing this, Wen Han quietly turned his head to look at her and smiled slightly. Counting the hours, she must have been without sleep for a full day and night, as dark circles had formed under her eyes.
Wen Han slowed the car to give Su Mu a good rest. However, as Jiang Bei’s apartment was very close to the hospital, even at a slower pace, they arrived downstairs half an hour later. Wen Han turned off the engine, looking at Su Mu who was asleep against the window in the passenger seat, and hesitated. He genuinely didn’t know whether he should wake her up to take a proper bath or just let her sleep a bit more in the car.
But Wen Han did not linger over the decision for long, as Su Mu soon groggily opened her eyes. After seeing the familiar buildings outside the window, she yawned slowly and then turned to Wen Han:
"Why didn’t you wake me up?"
"I wanted you to sleep a bit more," Wen Han replied naturally. "But now that you’re awake, hurry up and go up."
Su Mu nodded, pushed open the car door, and got out.
After returning to the apartment, Wen Han pushed Su Mu to wash up and went straight into the kitchen. This place was only Su Mu’s temporary residence, but she rarely ordered takeout for the sake of Qiqi’s health. Even if she was staying for just a few days, she would stuff the fridge full of various ingredients.
Wen Han picked a few ingredients that Su Mu liked and started cooking. He worked quickly, and by the time Su Mu came out of the shower, his three dishes and one soup were already on the table. Smelling the aroma of the food, Su Mu couldn’t help but smile as she walked to the kitchen and saw Wen Han wrapping up his work:
"I’ve never seen a better man than you."
Hearing this, Wen Han flashed a bright smile, walked up to stand in front of Su Mu, and looked deeply into her eyes:
"Say what you just said again."
Su Mu chuckled lightly and repeated her words:
"I wasn’t lying; you are truly the best man I’ve ever met. I’m so glad to have met you."
As soon as Su Mu’s words fell, Wen Han turned around and pinned her against the nearby crystal platform. She was trapped between his chest, and the clear scent of hormones made Su Mu suddenly start to tense up, her expression becoming uncomfortable.
Wen Han admitted that he did indeed want to do things to Su Mu that he had wanted to do for a long time. However, seeing her like this, he could only suppress all his impulses, and finally, he just smiled:
"Do you know what it really means to compliment a man so directly?"
