Chapter 388: Chapter 388 I Believe You, Not Him
Su Mu had only said what she thought was right, yet she never imagined it would cause such an upheaval in Wen Han’s heart. If she had known, perhaps she wouldn’t have chosen to speak those words, or at least not in a space where it was just the two of them alone at home.
Just a moment ago, she had already rejected him once, and at this time, his quite evident hinting gesture, Su Mu naturally knew what it meant. Although her body instinctively wanted to refuse, Su Mu was clear, she could not refuse again. Wen Han might overthink and feel hurt.
Just as she was trying very hard to persuade herself to relax, Wen Han straightened up his body and ultimately just hugged her, giving a small smile:
"Let’s go out to eat, I’ll clean up here and join you."
Relieved, Su Mu nodded:
"Okay."
She thought she had masked her emotions well, but Wen Han still noticed and smiled gently, though he didn’t say anything.
Su Mu was really hungry. At the dining table, she ate heartily without any concern for appearance. Wen Han was sitting opposite her, watching her eat in such a manner, his smile never fading until Su Mu realized something. She slightly looked up and met Wen Han’s gaze, and somewhat embarrassedly put down her utensils:
"Do I look very unladylike?"
Wen Han shook his head:
"Not at all, I actually find it very genuine. After all, no woman can be a goddess her whole life. Of course, by saying this, I’m not implying that your place in my heart has dropped. I just feel I’m getting closer to you."
Su Mu couldn’t help but laugh:
"When did you become such a smooth talker? Your words are so sweet?"
"Really? I don’t think so, I’m just stating a fact." Wen Han looked deeply into her eyes, "But since you like it, I’ll say more in the future. How does that sound?"
Su Mu shook her head:
"Let’s not. It would make me uncomfortable. Just once in a while is fine; it can be a little surprise."
Wen Han smiled and didn’t say anything.
Su Mu lowered her head and continued to eat but gradually began thinking about other things, somewhat absentmindedly. This time, she didn’t wait for Wen Han to ask; she took the initiative to speak up, not looking at Wen Han because she somewhat couldn’t face his expression:
"Fu Shinian came to the hospital today, accompanying the old lady. Qiao Yu had informed him about Qiqi’s illness, so he came to visit."
Wen Han responded lightly, showing no surprise at all:
"He is Qiqi’s father; it’s natural he would come to visit."
"You don’t mind?" Su Mu looked up at Wen Han, Wen Han smiled slightly: "Why should I mind? Surely you aren’t thinking of reconciling with him?"
"Of course not."
Su Mu spoke decisively, almost as if she feared any delay would reconnect her with Fu Shinian. Her reaction made Wen Han laugh:
"Su Mu, you don’t have to be so tense. I somewhat understand Fu Shinian’s thoughts; he intends to win you back, so during this time, especially under the pretext of Qiqi’s illness, he might appear by your side more frequently. I admit I have been concerned, but I trust you, trust that you won’t return to him or accept Fu Shinian again."
Su Mu looked at Wen Han for a few seconds without speaking; then, she somewhat understood:
"Did you know he would come today?"
Wen Han didn’t deny it and nodded:
"This morning, I heard your conversation with Qiao Yu at the door of the hospital room."
Su Mu was surprised, and Wen Han apologized:
"I didn’t intend to listen; it was just that when I was pushing the door, I overheard a few sentences. I felt it was inappropriate for me to enter at that time, so I left."
Su Mu went silent for a few seconds, suddenly understanding why Wen Han could go home the moment she asked him to—it was because he had already guessed that Qiao Yu would tell Fu Shinian, and he had anticipated Fu Shinian’s appearance in the hospital to see Qiqi. He knew everything, so he purposely went home to give her space and time, not because he couldn’t stay; all he did was to avoid making her feel awkward.
Guilt was the only feeling Su Mu had at the moment.
"You should have told me."
"Tell you what?" Wen Han looked at Su Mu, a mild smile on his lips: "Given your nature, you definitely wouldn’t have treated me unfairly. But not treating me unfairly means you’d have to sacrifice your own comfort. Su Mu, I’m with you to make you happy, not to force you into a compromising situation. I did leave partially out of consideration for your feelings, but also because I could see that Qiqi genuinely likes Fu Shinian. I didn’t think it was appropriate for me to be there. Besides, you’re fully capable of handling this situation, aren’t you?"
"You trust me that much?"
Wen Han nodded, his smile light:
"Yes, I trust you very much, but... I don’t trust Fu Shinian."
Su Mu looked at Wen Han, falling silent. A few seconds later, Wen Han spoke again: "Can I ask what Fu Shinian said to you? Of course, if it’s inconvenient, you don’t need to say anything. I’m just curious, and perhaps a bit of male ego is at play."
Su Mu shook her head:
"There’s nothing I can’t tell you; I was actually planning to tell you."
Wen Han looked at her:
"Is there something I need to know?"
"Fu Shinian wants to acknowledge Qiqi. It’s something he’s wanted to do since getting rid of Shi Lihua’s control. He mentioned it to me once before but I rejected it. That time, he wanted to fight for custody of the child. This time..." Su Mu looked at Wen Han, "He said he wants to win me back, even if he has to resort to any means necessary to keep me by his side, even if I hate him, he doesn’t care."
Wen Han didn’t have any particular reaction; it seemed he had expected this response from Fu Shinian. Su Mu looked at Wen Han:
"I don’t know what he’ll do, but judging by my understanding of him, once he’s determined, he won’t change, and today he wasn’t just joking or talking. That’s why I wanted to tell you, so we could be prepared."
Wen Han looked at Su Mu, a light smile on his face:
"Actually, it’s quite simple. As long as we do one thing, no matter what Fu Shinian wants to do, it will be futile."
Su Mu didn’t speak because she had already sensed what Wen Han was implying.
"You guessed, didn’t you?"
