Chapter 380: Chapter 380: Living Together, A Complete Family
Qiqi nodded, indicating that she understood. It was only then that she noticed Su Mu’s absence in the hospital room. Her gaze wandered around the room before finally returning to Fu Shinian’s face. Before she could speak, Fu Shinian had already provided her with an answer,
"I actually brought someone else with me. She’s my grandmother, and your mother hasn’t seen her for a long time, so they have a lot to catch up on. To avoid disturbing your rest, they have stepped out for a while but will be back shortly. If you need anything, you can tell me. Of course, if you are scared of me, I can call Su Mu right now."
Qiqi shook her head,
"I’m not scared of you."
Fu Shinian smiled slightly,
"Why aren’t you scared of me? Don’t you think I’m a bad person?"
"Not at all."
Qiqi had never interacted with Fu Shinian, so even though she was a polite child, at this moment she didn’t know what to say to this nearly stranger. Fortunately, Fu Shinian cherished the rare opportunity to bond with his daughter and asked her many questions. Soon, Qiqi was warmed up and began to talk proactively about many things.
Some were about her, others about Su Mu—times that he had never been a part of. Listening alone, he felt he had missed so much, and this sentiment lingered to the extent that Fu Shinian watched Qiqi for a long time without a word.
Realizing something was off, Qiqi withdrew her little hand from Fu Shinian’s grasp. As he snapped back to reality, she gently placed her hand on the back of his, looking at him,
"What are you thinking about?"
Fu Shinian felt elated by her small gesture. He wished this moment could stretch into eternity, to always be by her side, witnessing her growth, her emotions, and everything about her.
"Nothing much, just thinking that talking with you like this is something I never even dared to dream of in the past."
Qiqi blinked and looked at him,
"Did you miss me?"
"Of course, I’ve missed you. Ever since I knew of your existence, there hasn’t been a day I didn’t think of you. I wondered what you looked like, what your voice sounded like, whether you tied up your hair, whether you have big eyes and long lashes, what color you liked, and what hobbies you had... I’ve thought about it all..."
Fu Shinian’s words silenced Qiqi for a few seconds before she looked up at him and said quietly,
"If you missed me so much and liked me so much, why did you leave me and Mu back then?"
Even in the settled present, faced with his daughter, Fu Shinian still couldn’t easily explain the reasons. It wasn’t because she was too young or that she wouldn’t understand—it was that he truly didn’t want Qiqi to know that there were people like Shi Lihua in her family. She had already missed out on much care growing up, and he didn’t want her to see such an ugly side of the world.
Fu Shinian smiled faintly and stroked her hair,
"If I said I didn’t want to leave either, would you believe me?"
Fu Shinian thought Qiqi would deny it, expecting even a dishonest response to take a moment of hesitation, but she didn’t hesitate at all, nodding firmly,
"I believe you."
That moment, Fu Shinian was stunned, looking at Qiqi without a blink like a statue, which made her laugh. She struggled to sit up from her hospital bed and reached out to touch Fu Shinian’s face, saying gently,
"Qiqi doesn’t lie. I believe you."
The next second, Fu Shinian held her in his arms, and after a few moments of surprise, Qiqi laughed within his embrace.
Once the warm time had passed, Fu Shinian still greedily wanted to know why, so he sat her on his lap and played with her chubby little hands, asking softly,
"Why? I remember you said you didn’t like me the last time we met."
"I didn’t dislike you, I was just afraid Mu would be unhappy, and so would Yuan Gege. You’re so handsome, of course I like you."
Fu Shinian: "..."
Was Qiqi’s trust and affection for him based solely on his looks?
No matter the exact reason, that Qiqi liked him was worth it to Fu Shinian. Perhaps for the first time, he truly felt grateful to Shi Lihua for making him so attractive.
"Qiqi, do you know who I am?"
Qiqi nodded but did not utter a sound.
Fu Shinian roughly knew what she was thinking and smiled softly, "Then, would you like to live with me?"
"With Mu?"
"Of course, the three of us together."
At the picture Fu Shinian painted, Qiqi hesitated, appearing so conflicted that one could not help but want to laugh. But knowing she was seriously contemplating, Fu Shinian showed great respect by suppressing his laughter. Nevertheless, unable to comprehend, Qiqi turned to ask Fu Shinian,
"What about Uncle Wen?"
Fu Shinian had anticipated this question and responded calmly,
"He will always be your Uncle Wen, is that okay?"
"But Mu is going to marry Uncle Wen," Qiqi looked at Fu Shinian. "Great Grandmother Zhou said that after they marry, Uncle Wen, Great Grandmother Zhou, Great Grandfather Zhou, and I will become a family. Now you say you and Mu also want to be my family, so are you going to marry Mu too? Can a person be married twice?"
Fu Shinian smiled slightly but did not delve into an explanation for Qiqi’s questions. He simply ruffled her hair and said softly,
"Qiqi, trust me, I will give you a happy and complete family."
Qiqi blinked at Fu Shinian, a mix of doubt and belief in her gaze, before smiling gently.
When Su Mu and the Great Grandmother returned to the room, they saw the two laughing and chatting. The Great Grandmother was beaming with joy, while Su Mu found the scene ironically bitter. She had fantasized about such scenes countless times before the divorce, yet now things were irrevocably changed.
Upon seeing Su Mu, Qiqi sweetly called out ’Mu’ but hesitated for seconds upon seeing the elderly lady beside her, not knowing how to address her. Eventually, she just gave a faint smile. Su Mu, supporting the Great Grandmother, came over and introduced her to Qiqi,
"Qiqi, this is my grandmother, you should call her Great Grandmother."
Qiqi responded with a sweet smile and cheerfully called out,
"Great Grandmother."
