Chapter 378: Chapter 378: Three Years Later, Grandparent and Grandchild Reunite

When she suddenly heard the voice she hadn’t heard in a long time, Su Mu was stunned for a moment. It took her a few seconds to slowly turn around and look towards the door. The moment she saw the old lady, an inexplicable emotion surged up, and she unexpectedly felt her eyes well up, yet she still managed to show a slight smile and softly called out,

"Grandma."

In the old lady’s world, she didn’t feel like it had been a long time since she had seen Su Mu, but now, seeing her with short hair and a thinner figure, and a little person lying beside her, along with what Fu Shinian had told her about past experiences, the old lady suddenly felt as if she were in a different world.

Assisted by Fu Shinian, she walked over. Susu reacted and went up to meet her. She originally intended to have her sit on the couch, which was more comfortable, but the old lady insisted on sitting next to the hospital bed:

"I want to see Qiqi."

Su Mu had no choice and couldn’t stop an old person’s love for her younger relatives. She could only help the old lady sit in the chair beside the bed and took a cushion from the couch to place behind her back, to make her more comfortable at least.

A nurse walked in at that moment, checked the IV drip, then removed the needle from Qiqi’s hand, gave some instructions, and then left.

The old lady’s gaze landed on Qiqi’s face, full of affection. Perhaps it was too exciting, or maybe there was something unbelievable in her feeling, but her hand trembled as she reached out to touch Qiqi’s hand. Su Mu watched from the side, unwilling to admit it, but the truth was just as it appeared.

The old lady had indeed aged quite a bit compared to three years ago.

Fu Shinian watched Qiqi for a while then laid his eyes on Su Mu’s face. She hadn’t slept all night, didn’t have makeup on, and her hair was somewhat messy; her entire appearance radiated exhaustion and weariness. He naturally felt distressed, but it was inappropriate to say too much, so he softly asked,

"Is she still feverish?"

Su Mu knew he was asking about her but didn’t look up, only silently responding a few seconds later,

"It has gone down a bit."

"I’ve already asked Qiao Yu, and he said there’s nothing seriously wrong, as long as she is well cared for."

"I know."

Throughout this exchange, Fu Shinian wasn’t given a single glance by Su Mu. Yet, he didn’t feel slighted, remembering what he had done to Su Mu the last time they met; he himself thought it deplorable.

Qiqi was still sleeping, and the old lady quietly watched her for a long time. That affectionate and loving expression almost made Su Mu feel the urge to wake Qiqi, but she ultimately didn’t do so. After all, she was reluctant, and the old lady wouldn’t agree. It wasn’t long before the old lady then turned her eyes to Su Mu, her look as tender as it had been looking at Qiqi. Su Mu had a feeling she was about to speak, but she couldn’t refuse to listen.

The old lady held Su Mu’s hand and caressed it continuously:

"You’ve suffered, look how thin you’ve become now. Did you endure a lot of hardship?"

Su Mu shook her head:

"Grandma, I’m doing well. These past years have been fulfilling. I’ve been living the life I wanted, and Qiqi has always been with me, so you don’t need to worry about me."

"How can I not worry?" The old lady’s voice suddenly choked up. Before Fu Shinian could even start to worry, the old lady pointed at him and started scolding sternly, "If it wasn’t for this rascal, these years you should have been living happily, and Qiqi should have had a complete and harmonious family. But it was all ruined by this rascal."

Fu Shinian: "..."

Su Mu gently smiled:

"Grandma, that’s all in the past now."

"In the past for you, maybe, but for me, it has just begun. I’ve been confused for three years. I couldn’t make decisions for you and didn’t know how you spent these years. But when I think about how you did everything alone these past years, getting pregnant, giving birth, raising Qiqi all by yourself, and taking such good care of her, my heart aches terribly just by thinking about it."

"Grandma..."

Perhaps their voices disturbed Qiqi, as she stirred restlessly in the hospital bed. The old lady promptly stopped talking and Fu Shinian held his breath, but fortunately, Qiqi just shifted her position and then fell back into a deep sleep. Seeing this, Fu Shinian softly spoke:

"Grandma, you probably have a lot to talk about with Su Mu, but Qiqi needs to rest. Why don’t you and Su Mu find a place to chat properly? I’ll stay here with Qiqi."

"I wouldn’t trust to leave Qiqi in your care. You lost her once three years ago; you don’t have that right now."

Fu Shinian: "..."

Grandma was still the same grandma; whenever it involved Su Mu, Fu Shinian was no longer her beloved grandson.

It was at this moment that Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian for the first time. Fu Shinian, sensing her gaze, glanced back, but she averted her eyes, leaving him unclear about the emotions contained within. Wondering whether or not to speak, Su Mu spoke first:

"Grandma, the weather is nice outside today. Let me accompany you for a walk."

Upon hearing this, not only Fu Shinian but also the old lady was momentarily stunned, then quickly recovered and nodded with barely concealed excitement:

"Good, good, grandma will go out for a walk with you."

Su Mu gently smiled, helped the old lady up from the chair, and as they headed towards the door, Su Mu turned back and instructed Fu Shinian:

"Qiqi has a rash that might itch, keep an eye on her, and don’t let her scratch it."

"Okay," Fu Shinian quickly responded.

At this point in the morning, even though it was late July, the weather wasn’t too hot. Moreover, the hospital’s backyard garden was pleasant, and there was no trace of heat as they walked down the shaded path. However, Su Mu was still concerned that the old lady might become unwell from walking too much and helped her sit down on a nearby bench.

The old lady held onto Su Mu’s hand and wouldn’t let go, her voice full of pity:

"Susu, tell grandma the truth, how have you really been these years?"

Su Mu indeed had feelings about Fu Shinian, but facing the old lady, she harbored no dissatisfaction or resentment because the warmth the old lady had once given her was genuine. She had sincerely cherished her, treating her like her own granddaughter. Now, sitting with her again and listening to her familiar words, Su Mu smiled slightly:

"Grandma, what I said before is all true. These three years, perhaps life has been a bit exhausting, but I’ve been very content. I’m doing very well. You really don’t need to worry about that anymore."
