Chapter 365: Chapter 365: Your Appearance, Only Hurts Her
Fu Shinian stayed silent for a moment. He suddenly felt the urge to smoke but realized he was in a public place with children around when he reached into his pocket. He couldn’t be someone so uncultured and unethical, so he put the cigarette back.
He looked up at Wei Shaoqin:
"I’ve been hit, Director Wei must have more to say, right? Go ahead, I’m listening."
"Stay away from Su Mu. You and she ended everything three years ago. Stop being a disaster in her life under the guise of an ex-husband. She has been safe and sound these past three years. But look, the moment you show up, what do you bring to her? If you have any conscience at all, stay away from her. It’s not like she owes you anything, and even if she did, it was settled three years ago."
"She doesn’t owe me anything," Fu Shinian asserted. "From start to finish, it’s me who owes her, me who has to repay her."
"No need," Wei Shaoqin scoffed. "I’m not Su Mu, but as her friend, I can answer for her. What she needs is not your so-called compensation. What she has always needed is simplicity. If you really care about her, if you really want to make it up to her, then leave, stay far away from her life. Her safety is not for you to worry about. Wen Han and I haven’t let her suffer the slightest grievance in these three years."
Fu Shinian knew Wei Shaoqin was right, which is why he had taken that punch without retaliation—to thank him for the care he had provided Su Mu over the past three years.
Yet, despite this, Fu Shinian couldn’t simply agree to Wei Shaoqin’s demand to leave Su Mu.
"Director Wei, I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you. I can’t do that."
Wei Shaoqin narrowed his eyes slightly:
"What do you mean? Are you not aware of what Su Mu has undergone because of you? Xu Yansu injecting something into Su Mu is a fact. Even if nothing has been found now, can you guarantee it’s truly harmless? All of this was caused by you. Even now, Wen Han is still in the hospital. How can you stand here and say you can’t do it? Have you thought about what Su Mu gained from all the years she was with you? I saw nothing but harm."
"That was in the past," Fu Shinian said calmly. "In the future, I won’t let her suffer any grievances."
"The future?" Wei Shaoqin scoffed. "I admit you are very capable, as you’ve restored Fu Corporation to its former state in just a few days. But do you really see yourself as a savior? Or do you think Su Mu is a puppet, who, with just a wave of your hand, will gratefully and loyally return to your side?"
"I don’t think that way. I’ll use my actions to win back Su Mu."
"Stop disgusting me. I don’t believe a word you say. You made many promises to Su Mu three years ago, yet you fulfilled none of them."
Though Wei Shaoqin didn’t like Fu Shinian, he understood him to some extent and knew his words wouldn’t make him let go of Su Mu. Thus, he said no more, only smiled lightly and stepped closer to him:
"Fu Shinian, don’t let me find out that Su Mu gets hurt because of you. You know I’m fearless when I go crazy."
Fu Shinian glanced at him indifferently, said nothing, and watched him brush past his shoulder and leave. He sighed softly. Song Yi, having managed the crowd, hurried over and looked at the swollen half of Fu Shinian’s face, frowning:
"Perhaps you should go to the hospital."
Fu Shinian shook his head and chuckled:
"Isn’t it ridiculous? I even think I deserve it."
"Mr. Fu..."
Song Yi’s consolation was interrupted by Fu Shinian raising his hand, smiling slightly: "Let’s go."
With such a noticeable injury, Fu Shinian naturally couldn’t return to Bishui Yuntian to avoid worrying the elder lady. He had to head to his city apartment. The continuous travel had left him with no appetite. Song Yi wanted to stay and take care of him, but was sent away. However, just before leaving, Song Yi remembered something and spoke:
"The police station sent a message. Xu Yansu wants to see you."
Fu Shinian leaned back on the sofa, frowning slightly:
"See me? What is there left to talk about between us?"
"She mentioned it’s about the drug injected into your wife’s body."
That remark made Fu Shinian suddenly open his eyes.
——
When Wei Shaoqin arrived at the hospital room, Wen Han was preparing to be discharged and smiled slightly upon his arrival:
"Where have you been these past days?"
Wei Shaoqin chuckled, settling into a couch: "Nowhere special, just busy with work stuff."
He glanced at the empty hospital room:
"Isn’t Su Mu here?"
"She was, but she just stepped out to take a call. I don’t really need her here for anything anyway."
Wei Shaoqin’s gaze lingered on Wen Han’s face, not moving for a long while. After sensing his stare, Wen Han smiled:
"Do you feel something’s different?"
After a few seconds of silence, Wei Shaoqin softly asked:
"She agreed?"
Wen Han nodded: "Yes, it wasn’t easy, but she agreed."
Another long silence passed before Wei Shaoqin forced a smile:
"That’s good."
Seeing Wei Shaoqin with his hands tightly clasped together on the couch from a reasonable distance, Wen Han stepped closer and sat beside him: "How about I don’t go home just yet? Let’s have a drink together somewhere?"
Wei Shaoqin chuckled lightly:
"Funny, why does everyone want to have a drink with me today?"
"Who else is there?"
Wei Shaoqin paused, then shook his head in denial: "You wouldn’t know them."
"Judging by your reaction, you didn’t accept their invitation. What about mine? Do you accept?"
"Forget it," Wei Shaoqin waved dismissively, feigning fear: "I don’t want to get scolded by Su Mu."
"She wouldn’t."
"That’s not certain," Wei Shaoqin said in a breezy manner, smiling. "Things were different between you and her before, and it wasn’t right to interfere too much. But now? She’s your girlfriend, and she has every right to object even about trivial matters, let alone now, just after your discharge. If I took you to a bar in this condition, I believe she could devour me."
Wen Han smiled at his words:
"Probably not."
The look of joy in Wei Shaoqin’s eyes was clear, even through his smile, but a deep pain stabbed at his chest, nearly unbearable. Other than smiling, there seemed little else he could express. After all, what he could do was very limited.
