Chapter 366: Chapter 366: If Su Mu Doesn’t Marry, He Won’t Either
Ever since Su Mu got divorced, Wei Shaoqin had been secretly pondering whether to confess his feelings for her again. At that time, however, she was completely occupied with other things, devoted entirely to caring for her child and diligently pursuing photography lessons under her teacher. Besides, Wei Shaoqin had already backed out once, promising he would never say those unspeakable things to Su Mu again, so his plans to confess were put on hold.
But as Su Mu’s life slowly got back on track and Qiqi began to grow up, Wei Shaoqin’s fondness for Su Mu and his affection for Qiqi made him wish he could be with them all the time. Still, he couldn’t get past the barrier in his heart, because he knew all too well that Su Mu only saw him as a friend.
To voice those words might ruin even the currently peaceful relationship they had, so he chose to stay silent, or perhaps, he was just waiting for the right moment.
Later on, when his father discovered his feelings for Su Mu, he expressly forbade such absurd thoughts and seriously warned him that the Wei family would never accept a divorced woman with someone else’s child. He might not care, but the Wei family couldn’t afford to lose face in such a manner.
During a time unbeknownst to anyone else, Wei Shaoqin and his father had a huge argument. Although he knew deep down that a relationship with Su Mu was impossible, hearing it from someone else, especially his own father, made the final possibility between him and Su Mu seem to disappear completely.
A hopeless situation made even more so with his family’s opposition, Wei Shaoqin’s feelings remained unspoken. He could not change his family’s archaic thoughts, nor the fact that Su Mu was divorced, and certainly not Su Mu’s lack of feelings for him.
Even if one day she did develop feelings for him, Wei Shaoqin couldn’t bear the thought of Su Mu facing such indignity in the Wei household. Therefore, he never mentioned it again.
He thought to himself that this was actually quite nice. Su Mu wouldn’t marry, and he wouldn’t either. In a different way, they were together.
But then Wen Han confessed his feelings. On Qiqi’s birthday, he felt his heart shatter, but never anticipated this moment of absolute devastation would come so soon. He had always known about Wen Han’s fondness for Su Mu, but Su Mu had rejected Wen Han for three years. Wei Shaoqin even felt she might reject him forever.
But in the end, she accepted.
No matter the reason, Wen Han got the woman of his dreams.
And Wei Shaoqin had nothing he could say except congratulations.
When Su Mu returned, she was surprised to see Wei Shaoqin, especially since he hadn’t shown up during the days she and Wen Han were in the hospital. Qiqi, however, rushed to greet Wei Shaoqin with an eager "Daddy Wei!" It was Qiqi’s presence that finally seemed to improve Wen Han’s spirits, bringing him some relief.
With Qiqi there, everyone else was superfluous. Su Mu ignored Wei Shaoqin, busying herself to see if she had forgotten anything. It was at this moment that Wen Han made a decision and, finding an excuse, took Su Yimo out with him. Su Mu found it curious but ultimately didn’t say anything.
It wasn’t until Wei Shaoqin quietly spoke up from behind her:
"Congratulations."
Su Mu paused for a moment before resuming her task, "Is it that surprising?"
"A little, but I’m mostly happy for you."
Wei Shaoqin watched her back, filled with longing, intensity, and reluctance... But when Su Mu turned around, those complex emotions turned into a playful smile,
"Does this mean Wen Shaoyuan won’t be able to compete with me for Qiqi anymore? After you two get married, they’ll be siblings. Even if the Wen Family and you are open-minded, you can’t guarantee outsiders won’t talk."
Su Mu frowned slightly,
"Aren’t you thinking too far ahead?"
"Time flies; it still feels like yesterday when we secretly kissed girls in school."
She laughed at his comment,
"You always remember those things pretty clearly."
Wei Shaoqin responded with a slight smile, earnestly calling Su Mu’s name. She looked up at him with a light smile.
"Su Mu," Wei Shaoqin smiled, "since you’ve agreed, take good care of this. I’m genuinely happy to see you happy. Wen Han is a much more reliable choice; you’ve made a good decision this time."
Su Mu smiled softly,
"One can never be sure about matters of the heart, and I haven’t held out much hope, but I will still try my best to make it work and hope for the best."
"It definitely will be. All of your past hardships have laid the foundation for your happiness to come. Now that it’s here, all you need to do is seize it and enjoy it to the fullest."
Su Mu looked at him skeptically,
"Since when did you become so poetic?"
"Have I?" Wei Shaoqin touched his chin, "Maybe it’s because I’ve been spending time with an editor lately. She’s always using fancy phrases, and I guess it’s rubbed off on me."
Su Mu let out a soft laugh,
"You’re not getting any younger. Shouldn’t you consider settling down too? When you meet someone nice, just go for it. I’ll shoot your wedding photos for free."
"Me?" Wei Shaoqin shook his head, "Don’t start planning my life now that you’ve sorted out yours. I’m not ready to settle down; there are still plenty of years left for me."
Su Mu heard this and laughed softly but said nothing more.
Leaving the hospital, Wen Han stopped to greet someone he knew, so Su Mu and Wei Shaoqin ended up waiting in a corner of the lobby. There, they unavoidably saw the news broadcast on the large TV screen.
Although Song Yi had managed to suppress most of the incident between Wei Shaoqin and Fu Shinian at the airport, it had happened in a public place with too many witnesses to control entirely. Therefore, the news getting out didn’t seem to surprise anyone.
Su Mu stopped walking and watched, Wei Shaoqin did the same, chuckling,
"I didn’t expect it, but I look quite handsome."
Su Mu sighed resignedly,
"You didn’t need to do that."
"Feeling concerned?"
She looked at him and nodded, "Yes, concerned. Does it still hurt? Maybe you should see a doctor?"
Wei Shaoqin laughed and extended his hand toward her,
"No need, look, it’s fine."
Su Mu sighed and didn’t say more. As she was about to leave, she suddenly remembered Su Yimo. Sure enough, she found her staring up at the news on the big screen, her expression not looking great. Wei Shaoqin, unaware that Su Yimo knew that Fu Shinian was her father, picked her up, thinking she was just worried about him. Before Wei Shaoqin could say "It’s okay," Su Yimo asked,
"Daddy Wei, why did you fight with my dad?"
