Chapter 358: Chapter 358 Favoritism and Intimacy

Su Mu realized her current state with Wen Han upon hearing those words and almost immediately pulled her hand out of Wen Han’s grasp. This wasn’t a display of her caring about Fu Shinian’s feelings, but no matter how you looked at it, Fu Shinian was her ex-husband, someone she’d shared emotions with before, and it wouldn’t be possible for Su Mu to remain calm and collected while exposing this part of her past feelings right in front of him.

Wen Han understood this as well, so when he looked at his now empty palm, he didn’t say anything. He just fell silent for a few seconds, then fixed his gaze on Fu Shinian and slowly began to speak,

"Mr. Fu, how come you have so much time today? You visited this morning and now you’re back again?"

Fu Shinian didn’t feel out of place at all. He walked over and took a seat on the sofa in the living room,

"Didn’t I say this morning that I would find time to properly thank you? A brief morning visit couldn’t possibly convey my gratitude, could it?"

"I’ve told you, you don’t need to thank me, and you’re not entitled to."

Upon hearing this, Fu Shinian didn’t get angry. Instead, he lightly laughed, comfortably crossed his long legs, slowly turned his head, and his gaze lingered on Su Mu’s face for a few seconds, full of deep meaning. Su Mu only met his gaze for a few seconds before looking away, finding it too complex and too profound. She had no desire whatsoever to understand the multitude of emotions it contained.

She also didn’t want to stay there any longer. She glanced at Wen Han,

"Since you two have things to discuss, I’ll head back to rest."

Wen Han didn’t want her to face such a scene either. He gave a slight smile and then nodded, "Alright, go and rest. If anything comes up, I’ll call you."

Su Mu let out a soft acknowledgment and walked towards the door, without giving Fu Shinian so much as a glance during her departure. Yet she could feel that Fu Shinian’s gaze remained fixed on her the entire time, never once straying.

When the door to the room was gently closed by Su Mu, Wen Han was getting ready to speak, but unexpectedly, Fu Shinian rose from the sofa and strode towards the door. Wen Han frowned, trying to stop him,

"Aren’t you supposed to thank me properly? Why are you leaving now?"

Fu Shinian responded with a light laugh,

"Didn’t you just say I’m not entitled? Do I look like someone who can’t take a hint? If I’m not entitled, why would I stick around and be an annoyance? Better to leave early."

After saying that, Fu Shinian disappeared from the doorway.

Anyone could tell that Fu Shinian had no intention of really leaving, but with Wen Han’s legs unable to let him get out of bed, all he could do was watch. He felt the urge to call Su Mu, but what could he say if he did? Ask her not to talk to Fu Shinian?

Impossible.

He could tell that Fu Shinian intended to win Su Mu back and would certainly act on it. This meant that there would inevitably be a conversation between him and Su Mu about the past, the future, and also about Qiqi. He couldn’t avoid it, and he even needed to be fully prepared.

Since this conversation was inevitable, having it sooner rather than later didn’t seem too bad.

With that thought, Wen Han, aside from putting his phone back where it was, couldn’t really do anything else.

After leaving Wen Han’s ward, Su Mu walked towards the ward next door to her own. Her mind was in turmoil, so her steps were slow until she heard the sound of a door opening behind her. When she instinctively looked back and saw Fu Shinian, who had followed her out, and saw his gaze landing precisely on her, she suddenly realized something and hurried to her ward. She dashed inside and clumsily attempted to close the door, but it was too late. Fu Shinian put his foot in the door gap, thwarting her attempt to shut him out.

Su Mu tried pushing with force, but all that came of it was an unmoving Fu Shinian. She even stomped on the tip of his foot, thinking he would reflexively withdraw it, but he just stared at her as if he felt no pain, which only annoyed her further,

"Fu Shinian, what do you want, exactly?"

"Weren’t you worried I’d run off alone to the old mansion? Now that I’m standing in front of you, you have nothing to ask?"

"No."

Fu Shinian didn’t get angry either, just smiled slightly,

"Su Mu, I just want to have a talk with you."

"I have nothing to say to you."

Fu Shinian arched an eyebrow, "Anyway, I’m wide awake and not planning on sleeping, so we might as well stay like this."

Su Mu glared at him, but his skin seemed to have grown thicker at some point, showing no sign of embarrassment. Su Mu could see a determination in his gaze and expression, as if no matter how long she resisted here, she couldn’t escape this so-called conversation.

And her own foolish resistance only seemed increasingly absurd to her.

So amidst an inner struggle of conflicting emotions, Su Mu succumbed. She slowly eased the pressure of pushing the door shut and turned back into the room, taking a seat on the sofa in the living room. Fu Shinian watched her series of movements, smiled slightly, and followed her in, closing the door behind him.

Su Mu looked at his actions and frowned slightly,

"Leave the door open."

Fu Shinian, standing by the door, heard her and laughed, "What’s wrong? Afraid I’ll devour you?"

"I just feel stuffy, leave the door open."

"What if I don’t?"

Su Mu stared at him, anger flaring for a few seconds, before she decided to open it herself. But before she could stand, Fu Shinian moved first, opening the door. However, he only left a small crack open, not the full opening Su Mu had hoped for. Before she could voice her objection, Fu Shinian had already stepped in,

"I’ve compromised, now it’s your turn to give in."

Su Mu’s words stuck in her throat, indecision making her uncomfortable, but then she let out a scornful laugh.

She was laughing like that when Fu Shinian was about to sit, and upon hearing her, he paused for a moment, lifting his gaze to her, "What are you laughing at?"

"I’m laughing because you haven’t changed," Su Mu resettled into her seat and said indifferently, "Still so self-centered, thinking every decision and notion of yours is right, thinking that as long as you offer a way out, everyone should follow it down, or they’re being ungrateful."

Such accusations were unpleasant to say the least. In the past, this might have led to a big argument, but this time Fu Shinian showed no sign of dissatisfaction. He only laughed softly in response,

"Is this really such a big deal over the opening and closing of a door?"

"A big deal?" Su Mu snorted coldly, "If this is your approach to minor matters, then what about more important ones? But there’s no point in arguing this with you. If you have something to say, just say it quickly. I don’t have all day to waste here with you."

"No time to talk with me, but you have time to exchange sweet nothings with Wen Han?"
