Chapter 351: Chapter 351: Going in Circles, Back to the Starting Point

Jiang Bei rose from the sofa and walked over to Su Mu. Initially, he thought she would mock or tease him, but when she approached, her eyes were already slightly red. Su Mu was a bit taken aback but could understand her feelings and smiled faintly,

"How come? Are you unhappy to hear this news?"

Jiang Bei gently wiped away the tears brimming in her eyes and shook her head,

"How could I not be happy? I’m so happy, okay? You have no idea how long I’ve been looking forward to this day. Ever since you were married, I thought how great it would be if you were with my brother. I never expected that this wish would finally come true."

When Su Mu and Fu Shinian’s marriage was unhappy, Jiang Bei, seeing how well Su Mu and Wen Shaoyuan got along, always thought idly that if Su Mu had first met Wen Han, perhaps everyone wouldn’t have suffered so much. However, she also clearly understood how unrealistic such thoughts were in that situation.

Later, she gradually stopped thinking about it, but nobody expected that one day, Su Mu would get a divorce, the truth of those years would be revealed, and Wen Han turned out to be Su Mu’s real lifesaver. Everything seemed fated, circling back and returning to the original path.

Just in the three years after Su Mu’s divorce, Jiang Bei told her countless times to get together with Wen Han while Qiqi was still young and wouldn’t remember things, as Wen Han’s feelings for Su Mu were clear to anyone, undeniable that he would treat Qiqi as his own child. But back then, Su Mu always avoided discussing matters of the heart, always changing the subject whenever mentioned.

Jiang Bei even doubted for a while whether Su Mu would end up single forever, taking care of Qiqi and her studio alone.

But, she saw the light when Wen Han proved his feelings with his life, and she finally accepted the relationship. These days, there seemed to be nothing happier than this, even though Wen Han was injured and Su Mu encountered more challenges, the favorable outcome made everything worthwhile.

At dinner time, encountering such matters, Jiang Bei had countless things she wanted to say to Su Mu and pulled her out to eat together. Su Mu initially didn’t want to, as she didn’t want to leave Wen Han alone in the hospital, but Wen Han was also willing for her to go out and talk with Jiang Bei. After all, with such a big decision, she was sure to be somewhat shaken, and having Jiang Bei talk with her might comfort her.

Su Mu and Jiang Bei went to a Sichuan restaurant near the hospital. Su Mu initially disagreed since Jiang Bei was pregnant and spicy food might not be good, but Jiang Bei insisted on going, even using a pleading tone and eyes,

"Please, let’s go together. I’m really dying for it; you have no idea how I’ve made it through this month. Who am I? I live for spice. If you tell me not to eat spicy food for ten months, I’d literally die. You wouldn’t want my child to be born frowning, right?"

Su Mu felt helpless with her pleading and eventually agreed, but when ordering, she took advantage of Jiang Bei’s distraction to quietly tell the waiter to make the dishes only mildly spicy.

While waiting for the dishes, Jiang Bei’s gaze stayed on Su Mu’s face. Su Mu didn’t feel embarrassed at all and let her look, remaining composed. Finally, Jiang Bei couldn’t hold back and was the first to speak,

"I never dreamed you would make such a decision."

Su Mu smiled,

"Haven’t you always advised me to look forward? Now that I am, why do you look so incredulous?"

"Maybe it’s because I know you too well. I always felt that what you insist on, you’d persist with. I hadn’t ruled out you ending up with Wen Han completely, but the chance seemed so slim that I recently stopped bringing it up, yet just when I was about to give up, you got it."

Su Mu smiled faintly but said nothing.

Jiang Bei, though feeling it was not quite appropriate, still asked,

"Susu, tell me the truth, why are you with Wen Han?"

"Do you also think I’m doing it out of gratitude?" Su Mu looked at her and smiled gently, "I guess that’s fair, given the sensitivity of the timing. I was trapped, he saved me and got hurt, and after the safety, I made this decision. It seems like it’s all about gratitude, no matter how you look at it."

"I didn’t mean it like that, nor did I feel anything bad about it. I’m just worried about you getting hurt again, feeling aggrieved again."

Su Mu looked at Jiang Bei,

"As you said, I’ve already been through the same ordeal once, so how could I possibly let myself fall in the same spot twice? Plus, even if I am to spend my entire life repaying him, Wen Han is different; he won’t let me down."

"He’s my brother, and of course, I know him. It doesn’t matter how he is; he’s been alone all these years, and dying alone isn’t really a big deal. I’m just feeling sad for you. I know even if you agree to be with him out of gratitude, my brother won’t let you down, but your thoughts, your feelings, what’s really in your heart, no one can know. A lifetime is long, and if love is also about compromising, it might be too constraining."

Only a true friend could stand in this position and speak these words. Su Mu couldn’t help but be touched and smiled faintly, holding Jiang Bei’s hand,

"I’m not the same person I was three years ago. Now, I wouldn’t allow myself to suffer. Agreeing to Wen Han was a well-considered decision. I’m not playing around; I really want to try. You’re right, there’s really no need to deny my whole life because of one failed marriage, especially since the future Wen Han spoke of is really beautiful, too beautiful to resist. So, I really want to see what it’s like."

"I’m relieved to hear you say that."

"I’m glad you’re relieved. I will try to make myself happy and won’t let you down," Su Mu paused for a few seconds. "Before I agreed to Wen Han, I made everything very clear to him. Right now, I’m not sure if I truly like him, which may not be fair to him, but I will try."

Jiang Bei watched Su Mu and softly smiled,

"Susu, I believe every word you say, but love isn’t something you strive for. If you like someone, you like them from the beginning, even if the circumstances weren’t right. Three years should’ve been enough time for you to be certain of your feelings, definitely not waiting until now."
