Chapter 350: Chapter 350: Heroes, In an Endless Stream

"I’m not sure about my feelings right now, you don’t mind?"

"From the beginning, I’ve said that you don’t need to like me, let alone love me. Just because you agree with me now, I won’t become greedy, wanting to possess your entire heart. I know that once people become greedy, they will never be satisfied. I won’t let myself become that kind of person, neither now nor in the future; I’ll always maintain this mindset: Having you is already a blessing from the heavens."

The love-words sounded beautiful and deeply moving. Su Mu could see in Wen Han’s eyes that he wasn’t lying; he smiled slightly and said:

"I promise you, I’ll try hard too."

"Good."

In the dark surroundings, two people who couldn’t clearly see each other made the most solemn promises. They were not joking, not just talking casually, not betraying their hearts. At that moment, they were seriously addressing their future. In their imagination, everything was beautiful.

They were no longer children; they knew that where there was beauty in life, there was also ugliness, happiness, and sadness.

However, they never anticipated that the cruelty of fate would shatter everything they had envisioned in an instant, leaving them unprepared.

Of course, that’s a story for later.

Jiang Bei was currently pregnant, and many things were kept from her for her health’s sake but the hospital was technically her territory. As long as something happened in the hospital, she would always find out, like now when she hurried to the top-floor ward upon learning that Su Mu and Wen Han were both injured. Su Mu’s room was empty, so she went directly to Wen Han’s room.

The room was pitch-dark, completely devoid of any light. Initially, she thought it was empty, but when she flipped the switch, she discovered two people standing at a great distance from each other. They hadn’t uttered a single word, yet they were still looking at each other.

Jiang Bei didn’t know if it was because she was out of touch with trends due to her pregnancy or simply didn’t understand their way of interacting. In any case, she felt very mystified about their current state. Seeing Su Mu squint slightly from the sudden light, Jiang Bei didn’t think much before blurting out:

"What are you two doing? It’s so dark already, why didn’t you turn on the lights? Why are you standing so far apart? What are you talking about?"

The strange posture of the two made Jiang Bei even forget why she had come up here in the first place. Now seeing that they were both alright made her subconsciously ignore that point. Finally, Su Mu was the first to recover, lowering the hand that had been shielding his eyes and adjusting to the indoor light, smiling as he spoke:

"We were just discussing some matters, and now we’re done."

"What sort of affairs are so secretive that you can’t turn on a light? Is flipping a switch that hard?" Jiang Bei looked at the two speechlessly: "Never mind, I can’t bother arguing about this with you. I came to see the two who narrowly escaped death, one my best friend and the other my brother, and you didn’t even consider me at all. If it wasn’t for a colleague mentioning you two, I’d still be in the dark. Do you have anything to say about this?"

Wen Han glanced at Su Mu before speaking:

"It wasn’t deliberate. Right now, you’re pregnant, and Su Mu’s situation was too perilous. Even if we told you, you couldn’t have helped. It would only have made you worry needlessly. Look at us now; aren’t we both standing here fine?"

"Fine?" Jiang Bei scoffed. "Do you realize you were shot? But then again, you’re a soldier, a special forces member, so maybe such injuries are common for you. But could you explain why you went through surgery to remove the bullet without anesthesia? I don’t remember you being allergic to anesthesia. What are you playing at? Do you think you are invincible?"

Before Wen Han could respond, Su Mu was already exclaiming in astonishment:

"No anesthesia? Why?"

Wen Han didn’t want Su Mu to feel any more guilt toward him, nor did he desire such feelings from Su Mu. Wen Han didn’t reveal the reason, but that didn’t mean Su Mu didn’t know. She could hardly imagine what kind of pain that was, and what kind of strength must have supported him through it.

As she opened her mouth to say something to Wen Han, he smiled and changed the subject, looking dissatisfiedly at Jiang Bei:

"Who’s been talking nonsense?"

"Nonsense? The whole hospital is buzzing about it; a hero, a tough guy, who underwent surgery to cut out flesh without uttering a sound. Do you know because of you, the unmarried nurses have been driving me crazy, constantly asking for your contact information, saying they don’t want to miss out on such a manly man in this lifetime."

Jiang Bei walked over to the couch and casually took a seat:

"So what? Is this your new method for hitting on girls?"

Wen Han remained silent for a few seconds before looking up at Su Mu with an obviously amused expression. Jiang Bei saw it, and she could feel something unusual, but more than that, she couldn’t believe it. She opened her mouth, took several seconds to find her voice:

"Are you going to tell me that something happened between you two that I don’t know about?"

It was still a trial period; Su Mu hadn’t yet decided whether to tell everyone, but Wen Han could hardly wait to announce the news to the world. Hence, after Jiang Bei asked her question, he didn’t hesitate to say:

"Tell those colleagues of yours, they don’t stand a chance."

Jiang Bei’s face broke into a smile, almost certain of what she suspected, but she still sought final confirmation. After looking at a somewhat uneasy Su Mu, she turned her gaze back to Wen Han, smiling delightedly:

"So? What then?"

"The man they’re interested in is already taken."

Finally, Jiang Bei couldn’t help but burst out laughing, her eyes shifting back and forth between the two:

"Are you kidding me?"

Wen Han shook his head: "This isn’t a joking matter."

"I didn’t ask you, you’ve been eyeing my Su Mu for more than a day or two, perhaps the surgery pain messed up your brain so you’re confusing fantasy with reality, so I don’t believe what you’re saying, I want to hear it from Su Mu herself." Jiang Bei looked at Su Mu: "My dear Susu, tell me, is it really true?"

Su Mu felt genuinely annoyed by Jiang Bei, but because she understood her so well, she knew very well that Jiang Bei believed Wen Han. Yet, she adamantly professed disbelief and insisted on making her speak up. It wasn’t as though there was anything she couldn’t say; Jiang Bei was the person Su Mu trusted most in this world. Yet even so, she felt somewhat embarrassed at the moment.

But seeing the expectant look in Jiang Bei’s eyes, she couldn’t let her down. With a slight smile, she nodded:

"Yes, we’re together now."
