Chapter 247: After the 247th Chapter, I Feel Relieved After We Parted

As the two descended the stairs together, the old lady was already seated in the living room. Seeing them shoulder to shoulder, her face instantly lit up with a smile. Su Mu felt that his grandmother’s smile at that moment closely resembled the one he had seen in his dreams.

Su Mu and Fu Shinian stood in front of the old lady to formally wish her a happy New Year. The old lady repeatedly expressed her approval, took Susu’s hand, and had her sit beside her:

"How is it? Getting up early for two consecutive days, can your body handle it? After breakfast, go and rest for a while."

Su Mu smiled slightly:

"I slept very well last night, grandmother, don’t worry."

While Su Mu was in the restroom, the old lady called Fu Shinian over to her side and asked softly:

"Why did Susu come down with you?"

Fu Shinian looked helplessly at his grandmother, "Accidentally met."

"Don’t pretend with me. I saw you and Susu talking for a long time in front of the French windows last night. What did you talk about? Did you apologize to Susu? Did she forgive you?"

Fu Shinian looked at the old lady with some disapproval:

"You old lady, why were you still listening to other people’s conversations instead of resting so late at night?"

"If I had been eavesdropping on your conversation, would I still need to ask you if you apologized to Susu?" the old lady glared at him with dissatisfaction. "But seeing Susu’s demeanor, she seems not so angry anymore. I’m warning you, don’t do anything excessive in the next few days, or I won’t be able to help you."

Fu Shinian agreed:

"I know."

"Not only should you know, but you should also take it to heart. Just because Susu has compromised this time doesn’t mean she will always unconditionally accept your apologies. If there’s a next time, I think your marriage is likely to end."

Fu Shinian looked at the old lady upon hearing this:

"You know?"

Regarding the matter of divorce, Fu Shinian and Su Mu had never spoken to the old lady about it, thinking she was unaware. However, what they were hiding was known to her after all.

The old lady chuckled softly:

"There are some things I just don’t want to know. Although I can see that Susu is considering divorce, I haven’t spoken up to help you. Do you know why?"

"Do you think I should?"

"Yes, you brought this upon yourself. I no longer interfere just because I can’t always be the peacemaker between you two. I will leave this world before you..."

"Grandmother," Fu Shinian interrupted her, "why talk about such inauspicious things during the New Year?"

But the old lady wasn’t superstitious, and continued with a smile:

"When I’m gone, if you and Susu are still like this, then I’d rather you separate earlier. Susu is a child I am fond of, otherwise, I wouldn’t like her so much. It’s because I like her that I can’t bear to see her suffer any more injustice. If you can’t face your own feelings, then it’s better to split up; in fact, that would give me peace of mind."

Fu Shinian smiled helplessly:

"Do you have so little faith in me?"

"Yes, I have no faith in you; you have never given me any peace of mind over the past two years."

Fu Shinian smiled faintly and said no more.

Not long after breakfast, Qiao Yu and Ji Nanfeng arrived one after the other. Their speech was sweet as if lined with honey, making the old lady smile non-stop. Although they were not short of money, the old lady still prepared red envelopes for each of them, wishing for good fortune.

Su Mu quietly sat on one side, looking at her phone. She had just called Jiang Bei, but her call was not answered, and there had been no response since.

One by one, more people arrived to pay a New Year’s visit, all old friends of the elderly lady. Fu Shinian then asked Su Mu to take Qiao Yu and the others to the side hall while he stayed behind to greet the guests.

In the side hall, Su Mu had not yet sat down when Ji Nanfeng teased her,

"Did you and Shinian make up?"

Qiao Yu’s gaze also landed on Su Mu’s face, filled with an inquisitive look. Su Mu glanced back at them and shook her head slightly, "No."

"Then, has the relationship improved at least? I haven’t seen you these past few days, but it seems Shinian has changed a bit, no longer as morose as before."

Su Mu pursed her lips,

"Maybe because he’s happy about the New Year."

Ji Nanfeng’s sip of tea was suddenly sprayed out because of Su Mu’s words. He looked up at Su Mu, who still maintained her calm demeanor, as if she hadn’t realized the humor in her words. However, the hidden amusement in her eyes still betrayed her intentions.

Qiao Yu laughed as well, looking at Ji Nanfeng, "Aren’t you happy about the New Year?"

"Happy my ass, I’m about to be annoyed to death." After saying that, he looked at Qiao Yu, "We agreed today, right? Go out and have fun this afternoon, and don’t go home until midnight."

Qiao Yu nodded,

"No problem here."

Though it was rare for him to have time off, and visitors continued to arrive at home, it didn’t involve him much. His parents wouldn’t force him to stay home. Instead, they understood his hard work and advised him to enjoy himself during the holiday. Ji Nanfeng was not so fortunate, as his involvement in gang-related activities had long dissatisfied his family. Now, with everyone gathered for the New Year, it felt like a trial for him.

It’s no wonder he didn’t want to go home.

Ji Nanfeng turned to Su Mu,

"Why don’t you come with us?"

Su Mu shook her head, "No thanks, you guys have your fun. It’s not very convenient with me, a girl, tagging along."

"You know where we’re going? And you’re already saying it’s not convenient?" Ji Nanfeng laughed, "Or is it actually because you want Shinian to cheat, so you can gather evidence and make it easier for your future divorce proceedings, and also secure a larger share of the assets?"

Before Su Mu could respond, Qiao Yu frowned and spoke up,

"Did you not brush your teeth before you left?"

Ji Nanfeng probably realized his previous statement was too much and chuckles sheepishly,

"Sorry."

Qiao Yu explained for him, "Don’t take it to heart, he’s just been irritable lately because of issues with his emotions and family, kind of like how a girl on her period feels."

"It’s okay." Su Mu smiled slightly, and looked at Ji Nanfeng, "However, what you just mentioned isn’t a bad idea. So, Mr. Ji, please contact me immediately if you notice any signs of Fu Shinian cheating in the future. If I get a larger share of the assets after the divorce, you will surely benefit as well."

"What cheating and divorce?"

At that moment, Fu Shinian walked in and furrowed his brows upon hearing ’divorce’ from Su Mu’s mouth. Although she hadn’t nodded in agreement last night, she had at last agreed to consider it. Shinian knew her, and he was aware that her thoughts of divorce were no longer as strong as before. So why did she bring it up again just after he had left briefly?

Su Mu certainly wouldn’t bring up this topic for no reason, leaving the only possibility as the two sitting across from her. He could rule out Qiao Yu, but his eyes drifted towards Ji Nanfeng, who sighed quietly in his heart and raised his hands in surrender,

"I didn’t mean it intentionally; I just wanted to bring Su Mu along for some fun this afternoon."
