Chapter 218 I Forgive You
Chapter 218: Chapter 218 I Forgive You
Wei Shaoqin believed he had not offended Su Mu, he didn’t even have the chance to curry favor, but now the way Su Mu looked at him shattered this confidence. He couldn’t help but doubt and scrutinize himself, wondering if he had, at some point that he wasn’t even aware of, offended this young lady.
Su Mu slightly raised her eyebrows, looking at Wei Shaoqin:
"You don’t know what you did?"
"What did I do?" Wei Shaoqin blinked innocently, "Even if I did do something, it must’ve been for your own good. All my intentions have to be based on what’s advantageous for you, otherwise, even if you kill me, I wouldn’t do it."
Su Mu let out a light chuckle:
"What about the matter with Qin Nianwan?"
"What does Qin Nianwan’s matter have to do with me..." Wei Shaoqin’s words trailed off as he looked incredulously at Su Mu, "How do you know about it? Did Qin Nianwan tell you?"
Jiang Bei listened with half a clue, now looking disdainfully at Wei Shaoqin as he spoke up:
"What the hell is going on here? Don’t tell me you slept with that bitch Qin Nianwan?"
Wei Shaoqin leaped out of his chair:
"Ancestor, please don’t disgust me, alright? Even if Qin Nianwan stripped naked and stood before me, I’d still find it an eyesore."
"So what exactly is going on?"
Wei Shaoqin, like a child who had done something wrong, sneakily glanced at Su Mu. Su Mu, however, didn’t seem angry at all, maintaining an indifferent expression the whole time as she clarified to Jiang Bei:
"I went to see Qin Nianwan today, and something made me want to come back and ask Wei Shao about what he did to her, so I still don’t know what happened. I want Wei Shao to tell me what he did to Qin Nianwan that made her hate me to this extent?"
Jiang Bei seemed to understand something and was just about to lash out at Wei Shaoqin when Wei Shaoqin had already moved towards Su Mu:
"What do you mean by this? Qin Nianwan attacked you? What did she do to you?"
Su Mu smiled lightly:
"What about you? What did you do to her?"
"I just..." Wei Shaoqin, his gaze on Su Mu, suddenly lost energy: "just had someone take a video of her."
"When did this happen?"
Wei Shaoqin pursed his lips:
"The day you went back to the old house to celebrate the old lady’s birthday. Qin Nianwan was at a hotel drinking with a few clients, drunk as a skunk, vomiting in the bathroom. I saw her, said a few words, and she even showed interest in cooperating with me—to split you up from Fu Shinian so she could resume her old relationship with him while I could have you. I didn’t agree, thinking that since she harbored such thoughts, she would surely act against you in the future, so I took the opportunity when those clients were getting handsy with her to turn the tables."
"I never really meant to do anything; I just wanted to have something on her to keep her in line in case she tried to harm Su Mu."
Jiang Bei also remembered:
"Was it the time when the two of us had dinner alone?"
"Yes."
Jiang Bei originally thought she knew everything about the situation, but the more she learned, the more she realized that what she knew was just the tip of the iceberg. Initially, she thought it was Chen Huifang who wanted money, then Su Mu told her it was a trap set by Qin Nianwan targeting her, but now she discovered that Qin Nianwan’s actions were not solely because of the video Wei Shaoqin had taken.
She wanted to blame Wei Shaoqin, but she also felt that what Wei Shaoqin did was not wrong; Qin Nianwan truly deserved to be dealt with. It was Su Mu, however, who ended up being affected. She looked at Su Mu, who, sensing her gaze, smiled back:
"I know what you want to say, but it’s not Wei Shaoqin’s fault. Didn’t you hear what he said? Before Wei Shaoqin laid a finger on her, she already had the idea of coming at me. What she said today was just an excuse, even if Wei Shaoqin hadn’t made that video, she would have treated me this way sooner or later."
Wei Shaoqin found an opportunity to ask:
"No, can you guys tell me, what exactly did Qin Nianwan do to Su Mu?"
Jiang Bei glanced at Wei Shaoqin and began recounting the situation between Su Mu and Wen Han. Wei Shaoqin was stunned; he had never imagined things would go this far. Whenever he faced something unacceptable in the past, he would flare up immediately, but this time, he just stared at Su Mu, his eyes a maelstrom of complexity that was nearly impossible for anyone to understand.
Su Mu had an idea of what was on his mind. Just as she opened her mouth to say a few words of persuasion, Wei Shaoqin suddenly stopped himself. In the time it took Jiang Bei and Su Mu to react, he slapped himself hard across the face, shocking both of them to their feet immediately.
"Wei Shaoqin, what are you doing?"
"It’s my fault," Wei Shaoqin was full of self-reproach. "If it weren’t for what I did to Qin Nianwan back then, she wouldn’t have taken it out on Su Mu, and Su Mu wouldn’t have ended up in this situation."
Jiang Bei: "Didn’t you hear what Su Mu just said? Whether you did it or not, Qin Nianwan would have done the same."
Su Mu said softly:
"Wei Shaoqin, I didn’t tell you all this so you would blame yourself. I just wanted some clarity."
Although she said this, it did not comfort Wei Shaoqin, but he didn’t lose control again. He sat there dazed, hesitating for a long time before attempting to ask Su Mu:
"Then you... you and Fu Shinian..."
Given the circumstances, Su Mu had nothing to hide from Wei Shaoqin anymore and smiled faintly:
"We’ll probably get a divorce."
Wei Shaoqin narrowed his eyes slightly:
"But didn’t you say that nothing substantial happened between you and Wen Han?"
"That’s not the point."
Su Mu believed that after things calmed down, Fu Shinian would also trust that nothing had happened between her and Wen Han. Still, the rift was there, and no amount of mending could restore it to its original state. Instead of making do and waiting for everything to explode someday in the future, it was better to part on good terms now.
She no longer insisted, she was ultimately tired after more than two years.
They had agreed to drink together, but in the end, with everyone’s mood low, they simply had dinner and went home. Su Mu was to stay at Jiang Bei’s place. Wei Shaoqin drove the two of them there, and as they reached the apartment building, he called out to stop Su Mu. Seeing this, Jiang Bei patted Su Mu’s shoulder:
"I’ll go up first."
Su Mu nodded, settled back in her seat, and waited until Jiang Bei’s figure disappeared into the apartment. Only then did her voice fill the car:
"Wei Shaoqin, I’m quite unaccustomed to seeing you like this."
Wei Shaoqin had been gripping the steering wheel the entire time, his knuckles turning white from the force. It seemed he was holding back something fiercely, staying silent for a long while. Su Mu waited quietly without any hint of impatience, until he finally spoke:
"I’m sorry."
Su Mu looked out at the snow and smiled faintly:
"I forgive you."
