Chapter 137: Chapter 137 He’s Not Worthy of You
She actually didn’t harbor any negative emotions because Jiang Bei mentioned Fu Shinian, she just felt that everything that had happened recently was too surreal, like a dream, perhaps she just wasn’t willing to accept that the man she loved had done something so cruel to her.
If possible, she really wished this was a dream, that when she woke up, they would still be who they were a few days ago.
Even a cold war would be better than the current situation.
Wei Shaoqin knew Su Mu had woken up when he heard the noise upstairs. He didn’t rush upstairs but went to the kitchen to carefully ladle out a bowl of millet porridge. He had never done such a thing before, so he was quite clumsy and even scalded the back of his hand, but he just quickly rinsed it under cold water and then carried it upstairs.
Su Mu was also surprised when she saw Wei Shaoqin and asked Jiang Bei,
"Why is he here, too?"
Wei Shaoqin obviously heard Su Mu’s question, so he answered before Jiang Bei could,
"This is my house. Why can’t I be here? The least out of place person here is me."
Su Mu did not doubt Wei Shaoqin’s words but was very curious about how she got out, as she had no feeling or memory of it:
"How did you get me out?"
"By force, of course." Wei Shaoqin placed the millet porridge on the nightstand beside her, "Otherwise, do you think Fu Shinian would have let you go?"
Su Mu incredulously looked at Jiang Bei and slowly believed after realizing she seemed to confirm what Wei Shaoqin said, that they really had snatched her from Bishui Yuntian, but...
"How long have I been here?"
"You arrived this morning." Jiang Bei replied, "Are you worried that Fu Shinian will come looking?"
"It’s not worry, he definitely will come, right?" Wei Shaoqin took a seat nearby and spoke indifferently, "You don’t need to worry, though I can’t compare to the influence Fu Shinian has in Shen City, deleting some surveillance records is still quite easy for me, now no one knows you are here except for us three."
Jiang Bei looked at Wei Shaoqin,
"Fu Shinian can’t find this property?"
"No, he can’t." Wei Shaoqin was confident, "This land was purchased in the name of my mother, it’s in a remote area and few people know of it, let alone that I built a Glass House here, so even if Fu Shinian wants to find out, it would probably take him a few days."
Jiang Bei’s heart was still uneasy when she heard Su Mu say,
"He won’t come looking."
Wei Shaoqin and Jiang Bei exchanged baffled glances, wanting to ask why, but Su Mu was already unwilling to say more, perhaps this was what understanding meant, but Jiang Bei still didn’t understand, considering Fu Shinian had resorted to imprisoning her, he should care a lot about her leaving, so why wouldn’t he react or come looking after she left?
But Su Mu didn’t elaborate, and Jiang Bei wouldn’t ask.
Jiang Bei chatted with Su Mu for a while, then after receiving a call from the hospital, she hurriedly left, repeatedly entrusting Wei Shaoqin to take good care of Su Mu.
After Jiang Bei left, the Glass House returned to complete silence, and Wei Shaoqin, usually talkative, was now unusually quiet, sitting on the sofa about two meters from the bed, quietly watching Su Mu. Usually, Su Mu would have said something about Wei Shaoqin’s impolite gazing, but today she showed no particular reaction, only slightly averting her gaze to look out the window at the dense night that couldn’t be dissolved.
"Did you really marry Fu Shinian?"
Su Mu smiled lightly after Wei Shaoqin had been to Bishui Yuntian, assuming he knew about her relation with Fu Shinian,
"Do we seem mismatched?"
"Indeed," Wei Shaoqin replied, "he doesn’t deserve you."
Su Mu laughed. It was the first time she had heard such an argument from someone else’s mouth. That Fu Shinian didn’t deserve her? Throughout Shen City, which woman wouldn’t want to marry him? Any woman standing by his side would be overshadowed and also be deemed unworthy by others, yet Wei Shaoqin was saying he didn’t deserve her.
It truly was a ridiculous joke.
"Since you had already married, why didn’t you tell me earlier?"
Su Mu calmly replied,
"There was nothing worth mentioning."
"You lack confidence in your marriage and knew that sooner or later it would end in divorce?"
Su Mu didn’t respond anymore, letting Wei Shaoqin speculate. The atmosphere quieted down until Wei Shaoqin spoke again:
"Had I known it would be like this, I wouldn’t have backed out!"
That statement made Su Mu turn her head to look at him. Wei Shaoqin could feel the instantaneous guard in her eyes, which slightly saddened him, leading him to chuckle self-deprecatingly:
"What? Even after that man, Fu Shinian, did such outrageous things to you, you still think he’s better than me?"
Su Mu didn’t know how to explain her and Fu Shinian’s complexities to Wei Shaoqin. It wasn’t something that could be clarified in a sentence or two, but right now, she indeed worried that Wei Shaoqin might have other intentions toward her. She truly didn’t have the energy to deal with it.
"Rest assured, I won’t do anything to you for now. But you are the woman I, Wei Shaoqin, set my sights on from the start, and I can’t stand others not appreciating you." Wei Shaoqin changed from his usual flippant self and looked at Su Mu seriously, "If they don’t guard you properly, then I will do it myself."

When Qiao Yu left the hospital, he coincidentally met Jiang Bei in the parking lot. Both were extremely exhausted and smiled knowingly at each other, exchanging a simple acknowledgment of their hard work. Jiang Bei had intended to rush home to sleep, his body was not holding up well to the day’s strain, and he wondered whether it was a sign of aging.
However, Qiao Yu didn’t seem inclined to let him go:
"You’ve been busy all night, and Doctor Jiang hasn’t eaten yet, right? May I treat you to a late-night meal?"
Jiang Bei knew Qiao Yu wouldn’t invite him to eat without a reason; it was mainly to find out about Su Mu. Considering he had helped him earlier that day, Jiang Bei nodded:
"A late-night meal is fine, but I’ll treat you. I don’t like owing others favors, consider it me repaying you for helping me this morning."
Qiao Yu smiled:
"Okay."
Since it was an invitation, Jiang Bei wanted to properly arrange it for Qiao Yu, but seeing Qiao Yu insisting on not troubling him and just grabbing something light, Jiang Bei didn’t push further. Eventually, they didn’t go far and ended up at a snack stall next to the hospital. Due to the fiercely cold weather, each ordered a bowl of steaming wontons. While waiting for the wontons, Jiang Bei looked at Qiao Yu and took the initiative:
"You want to ask about Su Mu?"
"Did you see right through me?"
"It seems there’s nothing else for us to talk about besides Su Mu and that jerk Fu Shinian."
Qiao Yu, with an indeterminate slight curl of his lips, asked:
"Yes, I really want to know how Su Mu is doing now?"
