Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Get Ready to Receive the Divorce Agreement
"He’s awake," Jiang Bei said indifferently, "He had just woken up when I arrived, had a few sips of millet porridge, felt a bit nauseous, but that’s normal. His spirits much improved, and you can tell Fu Shinian directly that if he wished Su Mu dead, he’s in for a disappointment."
Qiao Yu knew that Jiang Bei had always been critical of Fu Shinian, and following this incident with Su Mu, his impression had only worsened. Thus, when Jiang Bei described Fu Shinian in such terms, Qiao Yu tactfully refrained from defending Fu Shinian, only responding:
"It’s good to hear that Su Mu is okay. I’ll visit her when I have time."
"No need," Jiang Bei bluntly refused, "If you really care about her, don’t disturb her life for a while. You know better than anyone that what Su Mu needs now is peace and quiet."
Qiao Yu smiled faintly:
"This reason for quiet recovery is false; you’re worried I’ll tell Shinian, aren’t you?"
Jiang Bei snorted softly without speaking, which was as good as an admission. Qiao Yu didn’t argue because, given his relationship with Fu Shinian present here, no matter how promising his assurances might seem, they needed to be believed by Jiang Bei; thus, he remained silent.
"Fine. If you don’t want me to visit, I won’t. But could you update me about Su Mu’s condition daily?"
"Why? That bastard couldn’t find anyone else to be his messenger?"
Qiao Yu fell silent. "He’s really worried about Su Mu."
"Spare me. Have I met too few people, or is Fu Shinian simply not human? Did he grow up with a different set of values that caring for someone could be so exceptionally refined? If hurting someone is his way of showing care, then he better be psychologically prepared, because I’m definitely going to teach him such a lesson that even his grandmother wouldn’t recognize him!"
Qiao Yu said, "... The issues between them aren’t something we can clarify in just a sentence or two. Haven’t you been advising Su Mu to leave Fu Shinian for almost two years now? But what has Su Mu decided? If she really took your advice, she and Fu Shinian would have divorced by now, which shows she still has deep feelings for him."
"What’s the use?" Jiang Bei scoffed lightly, "No one’s heart is made of iron, but I think Fu Shinian might be the exception. Su Mu devoted her whole heart to him for two years straight. Even a lump of iron should grow warm, but it seems his lump of iron is wrapped in millennium-old ice. Even if Su Mu exhausts her last bit of warmth, it’s doubtful he would notice even a bit of her. He might even think she had it coming."
"Love is all about giving and taking, something Su Mu knows better than anyone."
Jiang Bei coldly retorted, "This time I’m definitely going to persuade Su Mu to divorce Fu Shinian. Tell him to brace himself for the divorce papers!"
Just as Qiao Yu was about to say something, the lady boss brought over two bowls of dumplings. Once she had walked away, Qiao Yu continued, "Are you serious?"
"Do I look like I’m joking with you?"
Jiang Bei grabbed the chili oil next to him and added a big spoonful, turning a bowl of clear soup dumplings fiery red. Qiao Yu felt his throat burn just looking at it, but Jiang Bei seemed to find it insufficient and added another half-spoonful, stirred it, and looked satisfied.
Just as Qiao Yu was about to defend Fu Shinian again, Jiang Bei raised his hand to stop him:
"I hate when people talk to me while I’m eating. If you want to see me upset, go ahead and mention that scumbag again."
After finishing his statement, he harshly shoved a dumpling into his mouth, the forcefulness of the action making Qiao Yu feel as if he was consuming Fu Shinian himself. The words at the tip of his tongue finally stayed unspoken, and he quietly lowered his head to eat his dumplings.
---
Song Yi arrived 15 minutes early the next day to the office, as usual, and pushed open the door to Fu Shinian’s office to prepare for routine cleaning but was taken aback to find Fu Shinian already seated there. Unprepared for this and with the office still mostly empty, especially since it was only him in the executive suite, he was so startled he almost lost his soul.
It was only when he fixed his gaze on the person in question that he slightly recovered, yet he still couldn’t quite believe his own eyes and tried calling out:
"Mr. Fu?"
Fu Shinian snapped back to reality slightly and turned his head to glance at Song Yi, seemingly not understanding why he would appear at the company at this time.
But that look from Fu Shinian, Song Yi understood in just one glance and said worriedly,
"Mr. Fu, you haven’t been staying in the office all night, have you?"
Yesterday morning, Mr. Fu had arrived at the office later than usual, and at that time, Song Yi felt that something was off with Fu Shinian. He seemed uninterested in everything, lackluster in whatever he did. However, Song Yi originally thought it was merely a physical discomfort, after all, if Fu Shinian was in a bad mood, he would be the first to suffer, but since Fu Shinian hadn’t lashed out all day yesterday, he felt it was nothing to worry about.
But it was just such a ’nothing,’ unexpectedly, that Fu Shinian ended up sitting in the same position in the office for the entire night.
It must have been a huge issue to evoke such a reaction. For a moment, Song Yi stood there, unsure of how to respond. Fu Shinian seemed to regain a bit of his spirit, pinched the tired space between his brows, and asked:
"What time is it?"
"Just under 9 o’clock."
Fu Shinian didn’t say anything, paused a few seconds before he got up from his seat. Perhaps because he had been sitting for too long or because he had hardly eaten anything the day before, which caused physical discomfort, he felt dizzy momentarily as he stood, nearly unable to maintain the most basic balance.
When Song Yi hurriedly walked over to help, Fu Shinian raised his hand to stop him. He leaned on the desk for a good while before letting go:
"You get on with your work, I won’t be back this morning."
Hearing his intent to leave the company, and worried about his condition, Song Yi couldn’t help but say,
"Then should I drive you?"
"No need, I’ll drive myself."
"Mr. Fu, your condition right now..."
But Fu Shinian didn’t let him finish, picked up the trench coat from the back of the chair and left the office. Song Yi was very worried, but also clearly knew Fu Shinian’s temperament—if he insisted on following, it might only upset him more. Rather than that, it was better to let him leave quietly on his own.
In the underground parking garage, Fu Shinian sat in his car for a long time in silence. The momentary dizziness in the office made him think involuntarily of Su Mu, remembering when he had gone to see her after she had fasted for nearly three days. She was lying in bed, still dizzy and unable to get up, presumably feeling worse than he felt at the moment, but at that time, she hadn’t said a word.
Yesterday, he hadn’t returned to Bishui Yuntian because knowing the answer, he felt too lazy to confirm it in person. It seemed as long as he didn’t return, it felt as though Su Mu hadn’t left at all. Meanwhile, Auntie Lin had taken the initiative to call him, informing him that Miss Jiang had come to Bishui Yuntian to take Mrs. away.
He could hear the cautiousness in Auntie Lin’s voice and might have guessed that he would get angry, but in the end, all he said was:
"Understood."
