Chapter 238: Mommy Will Be Okay
Chapter 238: Chapter 238: Mommy Will Be Okay
"Shut up!" Daniel suddenly roared, startling the whole crowd.
Everyone went silent right away. His voice cut through the air, and the mood turned heavy and cold.
"Mommy, what’s happening?" Kane came out of his classroom, drawn by the noise.
When he saw Chantelle’s pale face, he quickly ran to her and held her hand.
Chantelle’s mind drifted back to six years ago.
Back then, she waited for Daniel until midnight almost every night. But every time he came home, he didn’t say a word to her. He just walked past her and locked himself in his room.
Chantelle had no idea Daniel despised her that much. She always thought he was just busy with work because he was the CEO of the Wilson Group Of Companies. She didn’t know he was avoiding her on purpose.
All of a sudden, Chantelle struggled to breathe. She clutched her chest and turned to leave.
"Chantelle, please. Don’t listen to her. It’s not what you think," Daniel said while he followed her right away. "I can explain. I did fall in love with you, but I was also angry because I thought you set me up. I don’t know how to deal with everything I feel for you. It’s all so confusing, and I can’t control it."
Then, Daniel picked Chantelle up and carried her away.
Kane saw everything and ran after them. He quickly called Philip, but his voice was shaking. Tears started falling down his cheeks.
"Uncle Philip, can you come see Mommy?"
"What’s wrong with Chantie? Kane, don’t cry. Just tell me where you are," Philip said.
Philip was at Thea’s house when he got the call, and it was the first time he had ever heard Kane cry like that. He was really worried.
Thea came out of the kitchen and overheard Philip’s call. She quickly put down the ladle and followed him out without a word.
On the 87th floor of Silver Crest Global District, Daniel gently laid Chantelle on the bed.
Tears welled up in Chantelle’s eyes as she whispered, "Daniel, it’s so cold."
Right after saying that, she passed out.
Daniel was stunned. His chest tightened, and it felt hard to breathe. The pain was heavy, and he realized just how badly he had hurt her.
"Daddy, don’t worry. Mommy will be okay." Kane placed his small hand on Daniel’s and tried to comfort him.
Daniel and Kane sat quietly outside the ward, both lost in thought. A few minutes later, Railer arrived.
He walked over and sat beside Daniel. With a serious face, he said, "Daddy, you’re gonna kill Mommy."
Daniel lowered his head. "I’m so sorry, son. It’s my fault. I promised to take care of her from now on."
Railer kept his eyes on Chantelle through the glass. "If you really want to protect Mommy, then get rid of all your women," he muttered. He didn’t even glance at Daniel.
"Yeah, Rai’s right. You have too many women, Daddy. I don’t even trust you anymore," Kane added and he quickly pulled away from Daniel’s arm. "When Mommy gets better, I’ll take her away from you."
"But we’re a family. No one is allowed to leave!" Daniel said, pulling Kane and Railer tightly into his arms.
After a while, both boys fell asleep. Ashton quietly carried them to their rooms.
Just then, Philip walked out of the ward. Before he could speak, Daniel rushed over and grabbed his arm.
"Hey, easy! Don’t break my arm. Who’s going to treat Chantie if I can’t move it?"
"How is she? Is she okay?" Daniel asked anxiously.
"She’s stable for now, but don’t upset her again. Don’t bring up the past. She’s too fragile to handle it." Philip warned him seriously.
"Is she awake? I want to see her," Daniel said and his voice was filled with worry.
Philip quickly grabbed his arm and stopped him. "Didn’t I just say not to trigger her? Let Thea check on her first."
Thea walked into the ward. The moment she saw Chantelle lying there, tears filled her eyes.
"Chantie, I thought I’d lost you forever!" she cried out.
Was it really that serious?
Chantelle handed her a tissue and asked, "Why are you here?"
Thea knew Chantelle had post-traumatic stress, but the way she was crying made it seem like Chantelle had died.
"Philip was having lunch at my place when Kane called him. I came here with him. Why did you have a relapse?"
"Something happened. But I’m okay now. You can go back home with the kids," Chantelle said, glancing at the door. It felt strange that Daniel hadn’t rushed in yet.
"You’re so cold. Do you know how worried I was?" Thea pouted her lips as she complained. "Fine, I know you’re dying to see your sweetheart. I’ll let him come here." She gave Chantelle a teasing look and walked to the door.
Just as Thea was about to leave, Chantelle quickly said, "Don’t make things more complicated. I don’t want to see anyone. I’m going to sleep."
"You really don’t want to see him? Mr. Wilson’s been outside all night. His eyes are red like a rabbit’s," Thea stared at her, trying to read her reaction.
"No. I don’t want to." Chantelle waved her hand.
If he really wanted to see me, he would’ve come in. Why didn’t he take the first step?
It’s fine. I don’t need to see him though.
Thea remembered that Philip told her not to upset Chantelle, so she didn’t push it. She slipped off her shoes and said, "I’ll sleep beside you tonight, just in case you have any nightmares."
"I barely have nightmares lately," Chantelle said as she shifted over to give space for Thea.
"Why? Is it because of Daniel?" Thea asked, looking at Chantelle carefully on purpose.
She felt relieved when she saw that Chantelle was now getting better.
"M-Maybe," Chantelle replied, thinking about her sleepwalking. She had a feeling it got better because of Daniel.
Could it be... deep down, I want to sleep next to him?
Her cheeks turned red at the thought.
"Hey, I was lying right next to you. What were you daydreaming about?" Thea nudged Chantelle’s elbow after noticing her silence.
Chantelle came back to her senses and she replied, "Nothing."
