Chapter 213: I Don’t Believe You
Chapter 213: Chapter 213: I Don’t Believe You
Early in the morning, Chantelle’s sleep was broken by a phone ringing over and over.
Still half-asleep, she heard the sound coming from the nightstand beside her bed.
She had no choice but to stretch her hand out from under the blanket. With her eyes still closed, she answered the call.
"Sir, the car is ready. It’s time to head to the company. All the directors are already waiting."
"Hello, who is this?"
"Uh... Mrs. Wilson?"
Chantelle was still groggy, but the moment she heard that voice, she snapped awake.
All traces of sleep vanished.
"Ashton?"
"I’m really sorry for disturbing you, Mrs. Wilson. I didn’t know you were with Mr. Wilson..."
Chantelle could tell Ashton was blushing on the other end.
Before she could ask anything, he quickly hung up.
She froze for a second as the call ended.
Looking at the phone in her hand, she realized—it wasn’t hers.
And the room around her didn’t feel like hers either.
Did I sleepwalk again?
She turned to her side, still piecing everything together.
Luckily, Daniel wasn’t in the room. If he were in the room, it would’ve been way too awkward.
But then she remembered what Ashton said on the phone. Chantelle paused for a moment, then decided to go look for Daniel while still holding his phone.
It sounded like there was a directors’ meeting. She figured Daniel shouldn’t be late.
Lost in her thoughts, Chantelle walked toward the door to leave the room.
The moment she opened the door, Chantelle found Mr. Charles standing there with a breakfast tray in his hands.
"Uh, good morning, Mr. Charles. Would you believe me if I said I’m just... passing through?"
Chantelle felt her cheeks heat up. Her face was burning with embarrassment.
Mr. Charles was clearly surprised to see her but quickly put on a warm smile.
"Good morning, Mrs. Wilson," he said gently, then bowed with respect.
Mr. Charles kept his gentle smile as he looked at her, but when he finally answered, Chantelle wished he hadn’t talked anymore.
"I don’t believe you," he answered honestly to her.
Chantelle’s face turned even redder.
"Mr. Charles, you’re really something," she said with a nervous laugh. "Do you know where Daniel is? I need to give him his phone." She waved the phone lightly, trying to act cool. It was her best excuse after all.
"I think he’s downstairs. Why don’t you go downstairs to look for him?" Mr. Charles replied politely. Then he added, "One more thing, Mrs. Wilson—perhaps a change of clothes first?"
Mr. Charles let out a soft chuckle. A warm, fatherly smile spread across his face.
Chantelle felt a bit guilty when she saw him smile like that.
"My clothes? What’s wrong with my clothes?" she asked quickly.
Her eyes dropped to what she was wearing.
She was only wearing Daniel’s T-shirt.
Even though it was loose, she was still surprised to see herself like that.
She felt like she’d been caught red-handed.
What just happened? Why was she wearing Daniel’s shirt?
No wonder Mr. Charles had that teasing smile on his face. She was completely embarrassed.
"Mr. Charles, you make a good point. I’ll go change now!"
Without waiting for a reply, Chantelle turned around and slammed the door behind her.
A moment later, she came out again, looking gloomy. This time, she was hugging a pillow.
"I’m going back to my room now..." she mumbled.
She hid her face behind the pillow and rushed off.
Mr. Charles watched her silently. In his mind, he thought, Mrs. Wilson is really adorable. No wonder Mr. Wilson still dotes on her after all these years.
Chantelle didn’t stop until she reached her room.
Once the door was tightly shut, she finally let out a long sigh.
She had no idea when she ended up wearing Daniel’s clothes. That moment was just too embarrassing!
Wait a minute, even if she had sleepwalked, there’s no way she would’ve changed clothes on her own, right?
Could it be... that Daniel jerk actually did something while she was sleeping?
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got.
Just then, the bathroom door swung open.
Daniel walked out, drying his hair with a towel. He was wearing her bathrobe like it was the most normal thing in the world.
"Oh, Mrs. Wilson is finally awake?" he said casually.
Chantelle’s eyes narrowed. "Daniel, what did you do with my clothes?"
"When you came looking for me last night, you got yourself all wet," Daniel explained casually. "I changed your clothes so you wouldn’t catch a cold."
He made it sound like no big deal.
But inside, his heart was pounding hard.
"You changed my clothes?" Chantelle asked, eyes wide.
"Yeah," he replied without blinking.
"Daniel, you shameless jerk!" Chantelle yelled as she hurled the pillow at him.
Daniel caught it instantly. Hugging the pillow to his chest, he began walking toward her.
"What’s the big deal? It’s not like I haven’t seen you naked before," he teased. "Feeling shy now, Mrs. Wilson?"
"I... Ugh." Chantelle was fuming and was ready to fight back.
But before she could speak, Daniel pressed his lips against hers.
She tried to push him away, but he was too strong.
In seconds, she found herself pinned down on the bed.
Looking at Daniel’s handsome face, her heart began to beat uncontrollably. It was getting harder to fight against him.
"It’s getting late. I should go to the company now. Thanks for bringing me my phone."
Daniel finally let her go, though he clearly didn’t want to.
As he stood up, he quickly snatched his phone from her hand.
Before she could react, he was already storming out of the door.
"Daniel!" she shouted.
That jerk! Why did he have to kiss me like that?
Her lips were swollen now. They felt sore and awful.
Right after Daniel left, her phone buzzed on the nightstand.
She rolled over the bed, grabbed it, and unlocked the screen.
It was Thea.
Message after message was pouring in.
"Chantie, Philip sneaked out of the house in the middle of the night," Thea wrote. "I think he’s up to something shady. Should I follow him to see what he’s doing?"
Another message popped up.
"I saw dark circles under his eyes. He looked so weak. Don’t you think he’s totally lame?"
Thea kept spamming her. "Chantie, it’s already noon. You’re not up yet?"
As Chantelle read the messages, she could tell Thea was happily typing this gossip.
She opened the keyboard and typed back, "Auntie Thea, why were you watching Philip instead of sleeping?"
Thea’s reply came right away. "Chantie, you’re finally awake!"
She even added a smiley emoji at the end.
