Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback -
Chapter 212: I Must Lived On!
Chapter 212: Chapter 212: I Must Lived On!
It felt like Daniel was replying to Philip, but also talking to himself.
"Okay, okay, I get it. You’re a man of deep feelings. No need to say more!" Philip chuckled as he gently wrapped the bandage.
While putting the medical kit away, he took a quick look at the wound on Daniel’s forehead.
The scab was gone now. The scar was mostly hidden by his hair, but Philip still thought it needed some treatment to fully fade.
He suddenly remembered the bottle they brought back from overseas. It was a scar treatment called Mermaid’s Tears, worth 8.8 billion dollars.
"Daniel, the scab on your forehead is gone. I’ll get you the Mermaid’s Tears later. If you use it every day, I swear—three days, and you’ll look like nothing ever happened. You’ll still be Mr. Perfect!"
"You mean Mermaid’s Tears? I already gave it to Chantelle. This little scar isn’t a big deal."
"What? Did you give it to Chantelle? When? I didn’t hear about this!"
"It was when she hurt her arm. It’s not good for a woman to have a scar. I don’t need something like that. I’m a man."
"Wow, I didn’t see this coming. Daniel, you’re way too generous. First, you gave away my Celadon, and now you’re doing the same with Mermaid’s Tears. Amazing. Just handing over my precious gem to some beauty..."
Philip dropped to the floor, acting dramatic and full of sorrow.
"You can’t complain. We’re brothers—we grew up together!" Daniel said, using Philip’s favorite line on purpose.
"Yeah, yeah, you’re right," Philip replied, sounding defeated as he kept sulking on the floor.
"One more thing. If you want to use the research fund, you’ll need Chantelle’s approval from now on. All my assets are under her name now."
"What? Daniel, stop right there. Change the topic. I need to make sure I didn’t just hear that!" Philip’s eyes went wide in disbelief.
"But I don’t think Chantelle will interfere with your work. Be nice to her, and who knows—you might even get double or triple the funding."
"That actually sounds pretty good," Philip grinned, suddenly feeling hopeful. "With my bond with Chantie, I think that’s possible! Still, Daniel, you’re way too reckless. Aren’t you afraid she’ll leave you with nothing after you give your assets to her?"
"I’ll always love her, no matter what."

In a castle in Skeynia, the study had been fully restored to look just like it did before.
Even the murals on the walls were carefully redone. It was as if the fire Daniel started had never happened.
Joseph sat back in his chair at the old study table. His fingers rested under his chin as he watched the surveillance footage on the screen.
He knew Chantelle was planning to visit, so he had everything set up. The castle was cleared out on purpose.
He wanted her to think she had found exactly what she had been looking for.
The key part of the plan relied on Kate.
But the moment Joseph saw Chantelle’s reaction when she met her, his eyes darkened immediately.
Kate had failed. She really failed.
A wave of fury rushed through him. Joseph lost control and swung his cane, smashing the monitor into pieces.
Then, Joseph stormed out of the room and made his way down three floors into the basement.
He stopped in front of a cell where Kate was locked up.
Kate lay weakly on the cold floor. Her wound was infected, and she was burning with fever.
When she heard footsteps, she tried to crawl toward the door for help.
But she was too weak to move far.
"Save me..." she whispered and her voice was so faint it sounded like it could disappear any second.
Joseph walked inside and glared at the weak woman on the floor. His eyes still burned with rage.
"Kate, you couldn’t even handle a simple task, and now you expect me to save you?"
"Mr. Joseph, I didn’t mean to fail. It’s just... Chantelle is too clever. She’s a cunning bitch!"
"A bitch? Who do you think you are to talk about Chantie like that?"
"Mr. Joseph, I— Ah!" Kate cried out the moment Joseph approached her. Fear gripped her instantly.
Joseph ignored her cry and swung his cane sharply across her face.
In an instant, the thick bandages tore apart and fell to the ground.
The wound beneath was fully exposed—raw, bloody, and horrifying to look at.
The moment the bandages came off, pain surged through Kate’s face. She reached up, touched the rough skin, and caught the strong smell of blood.
Her eyes widened in terror, and she screamed.
"Ahh! My face! My face..."
"Looks like your face won’t ever recover. What a shame," Joseph said, squatting down and pinching his nose as he stared at her ruined face.
"Mr. Joseph, I know you have the means. Please... help me fix my face. I’m begging you..."
"Fix your face? And why would I do that?"
"Mr. Joseph, you love Chantelle, don’t you? Then make me look like her. I can be her replacement. I know I can!"
Joseph let out a cold laugh.
"What an amusing idea."
Joseph suddenly looked amused. He pulled out a small bottle and dropped a pink pill on the ground.
"Take it. Whether you live to see tomorrow is up to you."
Kate stared at the pill and her heart pounded as she picked it up.
She knew Joseph was unpredictable. Anything he gave her could be dangerous.
"This is a Recovery Pill I made," Joseph said. "It can heal your wounds in a day. But the pain will be unbearable—worse than anything you’ve felt before. Sounds fun, doesn’t it?"
Joseph stared at the bottle with pride. To him, this was his greatest creation.
Just one pill could heal even the worst injuries.
It could even erase old scars.
But there was a cost.
The side effect was permanent—taking the pill would cut ten years off a person’s life.
If someone took three pills back-to-back, they’d feel reborn and stronger than ever.
But they’d be dead within six months.
Of course, Joseph had no plans to tell Kate about it.
"Mr. Joseph, I..."
"What? Don’t tell me you’re scared."
"Not at all. Your word is law," Kate said quickly, then tossed the pill into her mouth and swallowed it.
I must live on!
Joseph felt amused as he watched her swallow the pill without hesitation.
Before leaving, he gave the guards a special order.
"Keep an eye on her. If she’s still alive by tomorrow, let Kennedy handle the rest."
Kennedy Wheeler was Joseph’s senior and also a doctor who worked in the castle.
He was a brilliant doctor, but also strange—a true eccentric genius.
"Yes, sir."
