Chapter 201: Can’t You See It
Chapter 201: Chapter 201: Can’t You See It
"Really? You don’t hope he’ll love you back?" Chantelle asked doubtfully.
"Of course! Life’s too short. We shouldn’t waste it," Thea said. "Isn’t it lucky just to find someone we truly love?"
"Can we really think that way?" Chantelle asked softly.
"I believe we can!" Thea said with a big smile.
"Thea, Daniel gave me all his properties," Chantelle said. "He even wants to give me all his money. Do you think he’s starting to fall for me?"
"What? Did he really give you all his properties? Is he crazy? Oh my gosh!" Thea shouted, almost jumping up. She nearly spilled the sauce from the ladle in her hand.
"He even gave me all the money in his bank account last night," Chantelle shrugged her shoulders and watched Thea’s shocked face. She hesitated a bit before speaking.
"Damn it, Chantie! Can’t you see it? What do you think it means when a man gives you everything he owns? Do you want him to dig out his heart and make a ring for you just to prove he loves you?"
Thea was so mad at Chantelle’s slow reaction.
The fish in the pan she cooked almost burned.
"But... I don’t think I know how to love someone anymore," Chantelle uttered seriously after a moment.
Not since she came back from the dead six years ago.
It wasn’t like no one liked her.
She just couldn’t bring herself to love anyone again.
It was like her heart had built a shield. Whenever she felt even a little bit of affection, it pushed everything away and warned her instantly like saying, "Stay away from those people."
She once thought it was because she loved Daniel too much, that she couldn’t love anyone else.
But when Daniel told her he loved her, what she felt most wasn’t joy but fear.
Fear of making the same mistakes. Fear of showing her true self.
Thea looked at Chantelle’s face and knew right away that too many painful memories were still stuck in her heart.
While Thea was thinking of how to comfort her, she turned around and jumped in surprise.
Daniel was standing silently by the kitchen door.
"Uhh... Daniel?" she stammered.
Oh no... When did he get here? Did he hear everything Chantie just said?
Damn it, Philip! You’re his best friend! Couldn’t you at least make some noise or warn us?
Thea cursed Philip in her heart over and over.
"Thanks for your help, Ms. Thea!" Daniel said, glancing at Thea.
"My pleasure, Mr. Wilson!" Thea replied with a stiff smile, feeling a little embarrassed.
"Why are you here?" Chantelle asked after she pulled herself together.
Daniel’s face was gloomy, and Chantelle’s question made things even worse.
"Why else? I’m here to have lunch with my wife!" Daniel said as he approached her.
The cold look on his face disappeared the moment he looked at Chantelle. His eyes softened as he reached out to hold her pale hand.
"You seem tired lately. I’ll take a nap with you after lunch," Daniel said as he gently led Chantelle out of the kitchen toward the living room, still nagging along the way.
He’s acting like a worried old dad! Chantelle thought, feeling a little overwhelmed.
After hesitating for a moment, she asked, "Aren’t you angry, Daniel?"
Daniel halted his steps and looked at her.
"Why would I be angry, my wife?"
"You might have heard our conversation just now... I really don’t know how to love someone again," Chantelle whispered.
She lowered her head, looking like a child who had done something wrong.
Daniel felt a sharp pain in his chest when he saw her like that.
He walked closer to her and pulled her into his arms.
"My wife is just protecting herself. Why would I be angry? It just breaks my heart to see you like this, Chantie. Trust me. Let me help you, okay?" Daniel tried to coax her.
Chantelle was stunned by his words.
A warm feeling spread through Chantelle’s heart at that moment.
Meanwhile, on the balcony, Philip was quietly peeking through the doorway, trying to see what was happening inside.
Kane and Rai were right behind him, both wanted to witness a romantic moment between Chantelle and Daniel.
Rai was curious too. He wanted to know how things were going between his parents.
However, he simply watched from the side, knowing they wouldn’t see much from that angle anyway.
He had planned to go back to his computer, but Kane kept bothering him.
For a second, Rai regretted missing his little troublemaker brother.
Kane still had his little bag on his back and was holding a half-finished cup of chocolate milk in his hand.
But he didn’t care about any of that. He only wanted to follow Philip and watch his parents’ love story unfold.
Now that he thought about it, maybe their Scumbag Dad wasn’t so bad after all. If his mom really got back together with him, it might not be such a bad thing.
After all, a rich dad who could casually buy a computer worth millions wasn’t something he found everywhere!
But right now, Philip was blocking the doorway, and Kane couldn’t see anything.
"Uncle Philip, what do you see? Tell us, please," Kane whispered.
"Don’t rush me! It’s too far. I can’t see anything from here. Hold on."
The balcony wasn’t right across from the living room. The door panel was blocking his view, even after he tried adjusting his angle.
Philip still insisted on peeking from that spot, even though his back was starting to hurt from the awkward position.
Suddenly, the balcony door swung open.
Philip lost his balance and fell forward, grabbing Daniel’s thigh by accident.
Philip muttered something to calm himself down and shifted his position to peek from the side.
"Ouch!"
"Hey, Daniel! What a coincidence, hahaha... You’re here too, huh?" Philip joked inwardly, trying to act casual.
"Can you get off me?" Daniel replied, annoyed.
"My back hurts, help me up!" Philip whined, pretending to be weak to change the topic.
This trick usually worked like a charm.
Whenever he wanted something, all he had to do was act pitiful and clingy.
Daniel would give in right away, just to get rid of him. That was one of Philip’s classic nonsense moves.
But this time, it didn’t work as he expected.
"Look, Chantie! These two lovebirds got me so excited, hahaha!" Philip said and forced a childish laugh.
As Philip squealed, he felt his face heat up. Looking into Daniel’s eyes only made him feel even more wronged.
