Chapter 200: I Envy You

Chapter 200: Chapter 200: I Envy You

Chantelle and Thea had bought the house together a year ago. It was close to Thea’s shop. Even though it was tucked away in an alley, it was in a really good location.

Thea had been so excited when they bought it. She even called it their secret base. She promised Chantelle she would only ever cook for her.

But now, it looked like Thea had been cooking for Philip instead.

Chantelle felt a little jealous. Deep down, she felt like her best friend had betrayed her.

Before Chantelle could enter the living room, she heard Thea yelling.

"I cooked for you! How dare you sleep on my bed? How could you do that?"

When Chantelle walked in, she saw Philip kneeling on the floor, holding onto Thea’s thigh.

"I fell asleep because your cooking was too good. Don’t be mad at me, okay?" he said, looking up at her.

Philip looked up at Thea with wide, innocent eyes.

"Please forgive me. I’ll give you a full set of my skin care products. How about that?"

Thea hesitated for a second.

"Well... since you said it yourself. I didn’t force you, okay? When Chantie gets here, you better not break your promise!"

"Of course. I swear," Philip said, raising his hand.

"That’s more like it!" Thea huffed, feeling satisfied.

Right away, Thea’s mood brightened. She had heard about Philip’s success in the medical field. She was sure his products would be amazing.

What a good deal!

But as soon as Thea saw Chantelle walk into the living room, she pushed Philip’s hands away and rushed over.

"Chantie, what took you so long? I missed you so much!"

Thea threw herself at Chantelle, trying to hug her.

But Chantelle stepped back and stopped her.

"Stay where you are and tell me what you want."

"Chantie, someone bullied me! You have to stand up for me!" Thea whined, linking her arm with Chantelle’s.

"Who would dare bully you?" Chantelle said, shaking her head. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

"Philip! He ate all the food I made and even slept on my bed. I only cooked because Railer was hungry. If it wasn’t for Railer, I wouldn’t have lifted a finger. You know I only cook for you, Chantie. You have to believe me!"

Thea pointed at Philip, who was still lying on the floor, looking pitiful.

Chantelle stared at her best friend and was completely speechless.

She’s really good at pretending.

Still, Chantelle wasn’t upset with Thea for cooking for Philip. After all, she was also feeding Railer.

"Philip, why did you bully Thea? And why are you still lying on the floor? Aren’t you cold?"

"Chantie, she’s the one who pushed me!" Philip said, pouting. He stayed on the floor, refusing to get up.

"Okay, okay. You both have your reasons. But for my sake, can we just drink some chocolate milk and forget about it?"

"I agree!" Thea said right away.

"Me too," Philip muttered under his breath.

Chantelle shook her head at them. She didn’t bother arguing and went to find Railer.

She hadn’t seen him for two days, and she missed him so much.

Where is he hiding now? Why didn’t he come out to help me fix this childish drama between Thea and Philip?

"Rai, there you are. Did you miss me? We haven’t seen each other for two days!" Chantelle said, even though she was still a little upset.

She sat down on the sofa next to Railer and held his small hand.

Railer didn’t pull away, but he didn’t answer her either. Instead, he handed her a glass of warm chocolate milk.

"Mommy misses Rai very much, you know?" Chantelle said with a soft sigh when he stayed silent.

"Mommy, are you not happy?" Railer asked. He could feel that Chantelle wasn’t in a good mood.

"No! It’s because Rai doesn’t want to talk to me," Chantelle said, pretending to be sad.

But Railer just stared at her without saying a word. After a long pause, he said.

"If you didn’t smirk just now, I might have believed you."

"Well..." Chantelle chuckled. Railer was too smart. It wasn’t fun trying to fool him.

Railer didn’t say another word. Then he turned back to his computer and started playing again.

Why are adults more childish than kids these days? he thought.

Railer glanced at Thea and Philip, who were now throwing pillows at each other in the living room.

They’re even more childish than Kane, Railer thought and rolled his eyes in secret.

Sitting beside Railer, Chantelle felt a little more at ease, even though Thea and Philip kept fooling around and showed no signs of stopping.

After a while, Thea got up and went to the kitchen to make some food for everyone.

Chantelle followed her. She wanted to help and also ask Thea a few questions.

"Thea, do you like Philip?" Chantelle asked.

"Did you notice?" Thea said right away. "Do you think we’re meant to be? I ran into him while jogging. Isn’t that fate?"

Thea’s eyes were full of excitement. It was clear she had fallen for him. Chantelle could feel it. She had been in the same situation once.

She thought back to when she first returned to the Bently family. She met him—the man she could never forget.

She had fallen hard for him, and everything spun out of control.

Back then, she loved him with all her heart. She loved everything about him.

But she never had the courage to tell him. She only dared to share her feelings with Thea, who patiently listened to her stories over and over.

In the end, he never cared for her. Like everyone else, he looked down on her.

"Chantie, what’s wrong? Are you okay?" Thea asked when she saw Chantelle zoning out.

"Nothing. I just remembered something from the past," Chantelle said softly.

"Daniel?" Thea guessed.

"Yeah," Chantelle admitted.

"Oh my God! Chantie, you’re still thinking about him! You’re still hoping he’ll love you!" Thea cried out.

"Thea, honestly, I envy you," Chantelle mumbled.

"Huh?" Thea blinked, confused.

"You can fall in love with whoever you like. I can’t. If I do, I’ll just end up getting hurt."

"Chantie, love isn’t about getting something back," Thea said. "You can love someone without expecting anything. Look at me. I like Philip, but I’m not forcing him to like me. I’m happy just being around him."

Thea spoke bravely as if she was encouraging both Chantelle and herself.
