Chapter 197: This Is Torture
Chapter 197: Chapter 197: This Is Torture
Chantelle looked puzzled. His forehead was hot, and she had never heard of hugging as a cure for fever.
Still, it felt wrong to push him away when he was sick.
She hesitated, unsure of what to do.
As Daniel hugged her tighter, her body stiffened instinctively.
On this silent night, Chantelle could hear her own heartbeat.
She wasn’t sure if it was because Daniel was holding her, but her body started to feel hot.
She thought about lifting the blanket, but Daniel already had a fever. If he got sweaty and caught a chill, it might make things worse.
Forget it. I’ll just put up with it tonight, she sighed to herself. She wasn’t sleepy at all.
Then, a phone started buzzing on the bedside table. It was Daniel’s. He didn’t wake up, and since the phone was behind him, Chantelle couldn’t reach it. She had no choice but to let it ring.
The caller eventually hung up, but then her own phone started ringing. Chantelle turned to grab it but Daniel grabbed it first.
"Hello? Chantie, are you in danger? Why is your heart racing?" Philip’s sleepy voice came through from the other end. He had been woken up by the alert from his monitoring app and called her right away as he was worried.
"Her heart’s racing because she’s captivated by me. Relax," Daniel answered without shame.
Chantelle’s eyes widened at his words. She was completely stunned and furious.
"Don’t talk nonsense!" she shouted.
"Calm down. Don’t stir things up... My head’s starting to hurt again... Beep... beep..." Daniel muttered as he ended the call.
Hearing the busy tone on the line, Philip sat there feeling wronged. His eyes stung like he was about to cry.
Damn it! What did I do in my past life to deserve this? Why do I have to witness Daniel’s late-night flirting? This is torture!
Philip felt upset, but then he noticed something strange. He picked up his phone and opened the tracking app. He found the time range he needed and ran the app to analyze the data.
That’s odd... Philip stared at Chantelle’s heart rate chart, deep in thought.
Chantie’s heart rate only spiked for a moment.
Did Daniel really hurt his waist? Philip wondered.
Well then, maybe it’s time I do something to help them be happy together!
With that, he tossed his pillow on the bed and ran out barefoot, full of energy. He planned to go to the lab to make some supplements for Daniel.
He also thought about giving Chantelle something to delay her body’s dormant phase.
While thinking over his plan, Philip rushed toward the elevator. But just as he entered the living room, he noticed a faint light coming from the desk lamp.
Railer sat on a chair, leaning over the desk, and eyes were fixed on the computer screen. He looked so serious just like Daniel’s younger version.
Philip turned on the living room light and walked over quickly.
"Rai, why aren’t you in bed? It’s already midnight. What are you doing?" he asked.
"I’m checking the foreign stock market," Railer replied without even looking up. His eyes stayed on the screen.
When the numbers finally hit the turning point, he tapped a few keys and then turned around.
"Uncle Philip, why are you still awake?"
"Uh... I’m just hungry. What about you? Want to order takeaway?" Philip casually came up a lie to hide his purpose.
While talking, Philip rubbed his stomach and put on a serious face.
Of course, he couldn’t tell Railer that he was actually heading to the lab to make supplements for Daniel so that the guy could stay "happy" forever.
That was definitely not something a kid should hear about.
"Mommy said takeaway isn’t healthy. Why don’t we just cook something ourselves?" Railer suggested.
"Cook? Rai, do either of us look like we can cook?" Philip raised a brow.
"Uncle Philip, I’m a patient. That means only you can do it," Railer replied with a straight face.
Philip sighed and shrugged his shoulders, "You’re the boss here."
He had no choice. He didn’t know how to cook, but now he had to figure it out for Railer’s sake.
I can’t let Rai go hungry! I can do this! Philip cheered himself inside his head.
But when he stood in front of the fridge, knowing what was inside didn’t help much. He still had no idea how to cook anything. He stared at the ingredients and was completely stuck.
"Uncle Philip, since you’re making me food, how about I help you make some money in return?" Railer offered.
Philip’s face lit up. "Oh, you’re too sweet! But there’s no need. Your daddy’s already helping me with that. I’m not short on money."
Feeling touched, Philip leaned in to kiss Railer, but Railer quickly dodged the kiss in perfect timing.
"Uncle Philip, Mommy said a man should only kiss the woman he likes." Railer then pouted his small lips.
"Uh... yeah, your mommy’s right. Rai, do you really like your mommy that much?"
"Of course! Look, this is the money I earned for her. I want to make Mommy the richest woman in the world!" Railer said proudly as he opened his laptop and showed Philip what he had done.
Philip had been picking out ingredients and still had a tomato in his hand. He was about to say something nice just to encourage the boy a little.
But when he saw the numbers on the screen, he was utterly bewildered.
Eight billion?!
A five-year-old with eight billion in a stock account? That’s more than I’ve ever saved in my life!
"Rai, you really earned all this?" Philip asked, leaning on the desk with a tomato still in his hand. He stared at the screen, blinking as if his eyes were playing tricks on him.
The number really showed eight billion.
Unbelievable!
Philip had seen Railer watching the stock market often. He just thought the boy liked numbers and finance because he was smart. He never imagined Railer was actually a stock genius.
"Yes, it’s all for Mommy," Railer replied with a serious nod.
"How long did it take you to make this much?" Philip asked, staring at him curiously.
"Mommy gave me the starting money. It was one million dollars. I work on a seven-day cycle, and the profit rate..."
