Chapter 189: Chapter 189: What’s Going On With Me Lately?
Ethan had been watching everything from the side. A nervous feeling crept up in his chest.
He snapped out of it and slowly walked over to Daniel.
"Mr. Wilson, since I’m the one who filed the case, I’ll head to the station and take care of things."
"Mr. White, thank you for your help."
"It’s the least I could do," Ethan said with respect. He even gave Daniel a small bow before leaving.
Cole had been trying to stay invisible the whole time. The moment he saw a chance, he hurried after Ethan.
Chantelle felt drained after everything that happened.
How nice would it be if I had a normal father? she thought sadly.
Even if he’s just an ordinary man with nothing, I’d be happy... as long as he really loves me.
She was lost in her own world until someone stood in front of her.
She looked up instinctively and saw Daniel staring straight into her eyes.
"Chantelle, are you feeling sleepy? I can lie down with you if you want," Daniel said softly, smiling as he gently tapped her nose.
"Why did you suddenly come back? I thought you were busy with work," she asked.
Chantelle yawned softly, doing her best to hide how tired she was. Her eyes even turned a bit red.
What’s going on with me lately? I’ve been so sleepy all the time.
Daniel quickly replied, "I was at the office when I heard Mr. Bently was trying to sell your house. So I brought the ownership papers over."
"Huh?" Chantelle blinked in confusion.
Just then, Ashton walked over, holding a large box.
He put it down on the bar counter with a soft thud.
Inside were stacks of property ownership certificates.
"Mrs. Wilson," he said with a smile, "Mr. Wilson prepared all of these for you. It’s pretty heavy—where should I put it? I’ll carry it over for you!"
"Daniel, is it true you gave all your properties to me?"
Chantelle was shocked.
She thought Ashton only said that to scare Roman off.
"It’s true. I never lie to my wife," Daniel said as he gently touched her face and held her hand.
He reached into the box and pulled out a folder.
Inside was a property title with her name on it.
There was even a section showing the property was under her name alone.
The registration date went all the way back to five years ago.
"This one’s on the edge of Berkeley, not far from your friend Thea’s place," Daniel said gently. "If you want to spend more time with her, you can move there."
He pointed to another folder. "This one’s a villa in Berkeley. I had people plant your favorite sunflowers there. You should visit it when you’re free since it’s nearby."
He explained each plan he had made over the years like he was revealing a secret performance.
It felt like she had never left at all.
Daniel kept showing her one property after another, smiling as he spoke about what she might like.
He looked like a king showing off a kingdom he had built just for her—mountains, rivers, and everything in between.
Why does he seem so irresistible right now?
Chantelle wanted to ask him so badly, "Have you been okay these past five years, Daniel?"
But she stayed silent.
All she ever knew was her own pain and how she clawed her way out of the darkness, just to breathe again.
But the question never left her lips.
What has he been doing these past five years? Was he okay?
Daniel seemed to read her thoughts. "I was fine. But now that you’re back, my wife... I’ve never been better."
Chantelle raised an eyebrow. "Aren’t you scared I’ll run away with all your money? I haven’t even said yes to being with you. And now you’ve made me the owner of your properties? I’m a rich woman now. What if I fall for someone else?"
Daniel stared at her with a gentle smile appearing at the corner of his lips. "If I can’t earn your forgiveness... then I’ll make sure you’re the happiest and richest woman alive."
Hearing his words, she swallowed hard and she didn’t answer right away.
"Daniel."
"Hm?"
"You’re really good at acting. I almost thought you were serious."
Chantelle gave him a playful smile.
"Well, since you’re being this generous, how can I say no?" she quickly added.
"Ashton, take these up to my room. I need to buy a safe and lock everything up—just in case someone changes their mind!"
"Yes, Ma’am!" Ashton replied right away.
Ashton had been standing by and quickly straightened up when she spoke.
But before he could move, Daniel picked up the storage box himself.
"Remember this, Chantelle. I don’t regret a single thing I’ve done for you," he said firmly, then walked upstairs with the box in his arms.
Chantelle stood still for a moment and was stunned.
Then, she quickly snapped out of her thoughts and gently pulled Ashton closer.
"Ashton," she whispered, "has your boss been doing okay lately?"
"Don’t worry, Mrs. Wilson. He’s been doing well," Ashton said. He had a feeling Chantelle was starting to care about Daniel again.
But before he could feel happy about it, her next words shocked him instantly.
"That’s good," she muttered. "I’ll check for myself. Who knows if he’s just pretending."
She picked up her mug of warm chocolate milk and headed for the stairs.
"Ms. Chantelle, a-about the property ownership certificate..." Russell called out nervously.
"Keep it," Chantelle said. "Men should take care of their own properties. Don’t let anyone trick you."
She sounded serious. Deep down, she just didn’t want Russell to end up like Daniel—too soft to notice if someone took advantage of him.
"But it’s under your name... Shouldn’t you take it?" Russell asked, feeling awkward.
He had been wanting to tell her earlier, but the paperwork had taken a full month to process.
"Umm..." Chantelle blinked.
Isn’t my name being used a bit too freely?
Russell’s face turned red. "Everything I have was given by you, Ms. Chantelle. So everything I own is yours, too. You should hold onto this."
He pushed the certificate back into her hands and ran off in a hurry, his cheeks flushed like a shy teenager.
Chantelle let out a small sigh and shook her head.
Forget it. If he wants to show me that much respect, I’ll ask Calvin to send some funds to the hospital.
The property might be under her name now, but she had no plans to let her people live empty-handed.
