Chapter 190: Chapter 190: She’s Sleeping
Chantelle walked upstairs, still holding the certificate.
As soon as she entered the bedroom, something felt off.
There was a strange smell in the air. It carried a faint sense of danger.
The storage box Daniel brought was sitting on the table.
But Daniel wasn’t there.
Only the soft sound of water splashing came from the bathroom.
Someone was definitely inside.
"Daniel, are you in there?" she called out.
The sound of running water stopped all of a sudden.
But no one replied.
"Daniel?" Chantelle called again but her voice was quieter this time.
She walked toward the bathroom slowly with lighter steps.
Just as she got closer, the door flew open, and a dark figure jumped out at her.
Steam rolled out of the bathroom, carrying a strange warmth mixed with the smell of blood.
Chantelle stepped back in shock.
Her heart froze the moment she saw his face.
"Lone Wolf!"
"Hey there, pretty lady," he said with a chilling smile. "Been a few days. Did you miss me?"
His voice echoed in the room with a threatening tone.
His hair was damp, but he wore clean clothes.
It was her white loungewear.
The shirt was clearly too tight on him, making him look a bit ridiculous.
"You do realize Daniel’s been looking everywhere for you, right? And here you are, walking right into his trap," Chantelle said, keeping her eyes on him.
She slowly moved toward the door while staying alert.
Chantelle knew how dangerous Lone Wolf was. She had no plans to stick around any longer than necessary.
"No way," he said with a twisted grin. "Mr. Wilson and I still have unfinished business. Walking into a trap now would ruin the fun."
His eyes narrowed as he walked closer. "But you, pretty lady—you stabbed me. I’ve been in pain ever since. I’m still not fully healed. Don’t you think I deserve a little something for that?"
As he talked, he grabbed the medicine case from the bedside table. He quickly snatched a few pills and stuffed them into his pockets.
Chantelle’s eyes narrowed. That’s when she noticed his face was pale.
He wasn’t just pretending. He really was weak.
This was her chance. The perfect moment to take him down.
"Where’s the person backing you? How did the world’s top assassin end up begging me for medicine?"
Chantelle said while quietly watching for the right moment to act.
But Lone Wolf wasn’t someone easy to trick.
"Pretty girl, don’t ask too much. Knowing too much won’t help you," he said with a smirk. "And don’t tell me... you were planning to catch me on your own?"
Chantelle went silent.
He had seen right through her.
Damn it!
Fear crept into Chantelle’s chest.
Lone Wolf noticed it and said, "Don’t be scared. You’re not my target. I’ll leave once I get what I came for. I’ll deal with you later."
He grabbed some snacks from the bedside table and shoved them into his pockets.
Then he opened the window.
But instead of escaping right away, he reached out and picked a sunflower from outside.
With a wicked grin, he waved it at her.
He walked over and placed the sunflower on her bed.
Then, without looking back, he turned and prepared to jump out the window.
"Wait!" Chantelle called out.
Lone Wolf paused. "Why? You don’t want me to leave? Or do you really think you can stop me?"
"I heard your organization takes revenge on those who hurt you... but you also repay those who help you. Is that true?"
"Of course," he replied, furrowing his eyebrow.
"In that case, stay right there."
Chantelle opened the cabinet next to her bed and pulled out an emergency supply kit.
She tossed it to him without a second thought.
"Take it. But remember—you owe me now. I’ll ask you to pay me back when the time is right."
The emergency kit had everything—medicine, food, cash, and a few basic items.
"Deal," Lone Wolf said with a grin.
Lone Wolf grabbed the kit and gave it a quick glance, then he vanished through the window.
Chantelle let out a long breath.
The moment his footsteps faded, she finally felt relieved.
Something must’ve gone wrong between Lone Wolf and his backer.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have come to her for help.
Maybe I can use this chance, Chantelle thought deeply.
But then, she heard footsteps again. Her heart skipped a beat.
Daniel walked in and saw her standing stiff at the door.
"What’s wrong?" he asked.
"Nothing," Chantelle said quickly. "Just a huge cockroach came in. But don’t worry, I chased it away."
She glanced at the window and made a faint smile.
"Really? Let me know the next time you see one. I don’t want you to get hurt," Daniel said gently.
He led Chantelle to the bed and sat her down.
Then he knelt and took off her slippers.
"Daniel, what are you doing?" Chantelle asked, feeling a little awkward.
"You said you were sleepy, right? Lie down and rest. I’ll stay until you fall asleep. I have to head back to the company after," he said while he pulled the blanket over her and tucked her in.
"Daniel, you..." Chantelle started to speak.
She was tired, but something didn’t feel right.
She thought about telling him what happened with Lone Wolf.
But what if Daniel goes after him? He’s hurt. He can’t fight like this, she thought worriedly.
The thought lingered in her mind but sleep took over before she could say anything.
At that moment, she didn’t tell Daniel what was on her mind.
"Good girl, close your eyes and rest," Daniel whispered softly in her ear.
Even in her sleep, she heard his voice. It made her feel safe.
Once she fell asleep, Daniel gently slipped the bracelet Philip had made onto her wrist.
Daniel linked the bracelet to his phone and sent the data to Philip.
Before leaving, he leaned down and gently kissed Chantelle’s forehead.
Then he quietly walked out of the room.
But the moment the door closed behind him, his face turned cold.
He pulled out his phone from his pocket.
A voice came through the line right away.
"Daniel, where are you? What’s Chantie doing?"
"She’s sleeping. Is there something wrong with the data I sent you?" Daniel asked.
"Daniel, I think I’ve figured out what’s happening inside Chantie’s body," Philip replied.
"Go on."
