Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Being Their Son Wasn’t Easy

Daniel carried Chantelle to the car and gently placed her in the back seat.

Only then did he remember Kane was still following behind.

"Come on, my dear son. I’m counting on you to take care of your mommy," Daniel said as he picked Kane up and placed him beside Chantelle.

"Okay, Daddy. I get it. True love always forgets the child," Kane muttered with a dramatic sigh, letting Chantelle lean on him.

He sat there with a blank look, feeling left out.

Kane thought he was the cute kid his parents would proudly show off. He didn’t expect to feel like a third wheel.

Being their son wasn’t easy! How dare they treat me like I don’t exist!

He played with his fingers, sulking until something shiny caught his eye.

A high-tech kids’ computer appeared in front of him. His eyes widened with joy.

"Wow! Hx-798? Is this really for me, Daddy?" Kane said with his face full of excitement.

"Yes, the equipment inside has been upgraded," Daniel replied.

"Really? Wow! Daddy, you’re so rich!" Kane’s eyes sparkled. He had been eyeing the latest model on the dark web, but the cost of upgrading it was way too high—hundreds of millions. He had given up on the idea because it was just too expensive.

"Are you happy now?" Daniel asked as he sat in the driver’s seat and looked back at Kane with a gentle smile.

"Yup!" Kane nodded excitedly.

"Good. Now let’s go eat. You know what your mommy likes, right?"

"Of course! There’s a restaurant nearby that Mommy loves. Let’s go there!" Kane said excitedly, sitting up with a big smile on his tiny face.

Ten minutes later, Daniel followed Kane’s directions and drove to an old street in Fleador. The restaurant was hidden in a narrow alley.

There was no space to park right in front of the restaurant, but luckily, it was only ten meters from the alley’s entrance.

Daniel seemed familiar with the area. He found a good spot nearby and parked the car. Then he got out and walked over to wake Chantelle.

"Mommy, wake up! We’re here!" Kane called out, still playing with his new computer. He leaned over and gave Chantelle a soft kiss on the cheek.

Chantelle slowly opened her eyes. She looked confused for a moment and she was surprised to find herself in a car.

"Kane, where are we?" she asked, trying to sit up.

Just as she moved to get a better look outside, the door beside her opened.

"Mrs. Wilson, it’s time to get up and eat," Daniel smiled at her.

Chantelle turned her head and looked into his eyes. They were clear and gentle. His voice was calm and warm. A faint blush crept across her cheeks.

She looked away quickly, but Daniel reached out and pulled her out of the car. She lost her balance and landed right in his arms.

"Daniel Wilson, you did that on purpose!" Chantelle said in a low voice while still in his arms.

"You’re right," Daniel replied while smiling ear to ear.

He continued holding her as they walked toward the restaurant.

Chantelle didn’t want him to hold her like that. She tried to pull away, but since Kane was watching, she didn’t resist too much.

"Don’t lean closer to me... wait, are we in Southern Alley?" she asked when she noticed the familiar street.

"I heard from Kane that you often eat at the restaurant here in Fleador. So, I thought we could have a meal together here," Daniel said, looking at her gently.

While she was distracted, he leaned down and kissed her.

Before Chantelle could say anything, Daniel had already walked into the restaurant with her in his arms. She was speechless and lost in thought, unsure of how to feel.

Terrible! This bastard is getting more and more shameless! How dare he take advantage of me in public?! Chantelle cursed him silently in her mind.

"Kane Bently!"

That little brat must’ve told Daniel about this place to get something in return!

Meanwhile, Kane was still in the car, holding his new laptop tightly, not wanting to let it go.

As soon as he heard Chantelle call his name, he knew he was in trouble.

He quickly jumped down from his seat and ran off.

"I’m here! You must be hungry, right? I’ll go and reserve a seat first!" he shouted while escaping.

Seeing Kane run into the restaurant, Chantelle let out a quiet sigh and followed behind.

The restaurant was called The South Rainbow Cloud. She used to come here often six years ago.

But it wasn’t for the food. She came for the terrace.

From there, she could see the exit of the Wilson Group Of Companies parking lot in the distance. She had discovered it by accident one day while walking around.

She was so happy when she found it that she started calling it her secret place.

Chantelle never got a chance to visit Daniel directly in his office back then. So, she watched him from afar.

She knew all the cars he drove. She would sit for hours, staring at the exit, just to catch a glimpse of him leaving from the company.

Every time she saw his car, it felt like he was coming home to her.

Watching Daniel became something she couldn’t stop doing.

She remembered the last time she came here it was raining heavily.

She was pregnant but still insisted on sitting on the terrace.

She caught a cold. It was the restaurant owner who noticed her pale appearance and brought her to the hospital.

That same day, Daniel finally returned home. But he came not with warmth—but with anger. He wanted to hurt her.

It was all so ironic.

Chantelle used to dream of bringing Daniel here and telling him this was her little hideaway.

He had been working just across the road.

And all that time, she sat silently on the terrace, pretending they were close to each other.

And now, Daniel had brought her this place because of Kane’s suggestion.

Chantelle didn’t know if it was fate or just a cruel joke from God.

She had dreamed of this moment for years, yet now that it had come true, it only reminded her of the painful memories.

"Mommy, come up quickly! We’ve chosen a seat!" Kane shouted from the terrace.

Chantelle looked up. She saw his soft, smiling face. Just seeing her son made the heavy feeling in her chest fade slightly.

Forget it. I still have my babies. I should let go of the past, she thought.

She took a deep breath and pushed her feelings down.

Then she smiled at Kane and said, "I’ll be right there!"
