Chapter 179: Chapter 179: You’ll Believe Me Because I’m In Love With You
Roman’s face turned pale as he read the messages.
"Why are you just standing there? End the stream! Unplug the cable—now!" he shouted in panic at Kingsley.
Meanwhile, Chantelle had already left the venue. She walked quietly to the side of the road and got into her car.
Her heart felt heavy and confused.
He’s my father, but why does he treat me like this?
Ever since Chantelle was a child, Roman only cared about Kate.
Chantelle always felt like she didn’t belong to the Bently family.
But after everything that happened today, she no longer seemed to care.
Sitting in the car, Chantelle pondered everything. Suddenly, her phone rang in her pocket.
She blinked and snapped back to reality.
The call was from Calvin.
"Ms. Chantelle, I found Kate."
"Keep an eye on her. I’m on my way."
After ending the call, Chantelle started the car and headed straight for the hospital in the northern part of Easthan.
She was in a rush. She took the fast lane.
Luckily, traffic was light. She made it out of the city in just an hour.
In the suburbs, there were fewer cars on the road. During this time no single car could be seen.
Chantelle felt relieved.
But just a few kilometers from the hospital, a van suddenly rushed out at the crossroads and crashed into her car. Both Chantelle and the van were speeding along the highway at this moment.
Chantelle had no time to swerve.
The van slammed into her car, then lost control and slid under a nearby bridge.
Chantelle’s head hit the airbag.
She felt lightheaded but remained conscious.
Her car had been specially modified. Though it was hit, the damage wasn’t too bad.
Chantelle reached for the door and tried to open it.
Her legs were shaky, and she could barely stand.
Then she heard a soft trickling sound and it made her felt horrified.
The car’s oil tank was leaking.
She knew she had to get out immediately.
Using all her strength, she pushed the door open.
As soon as the door opened, Chantelle let out a sigh of relief.
She quickly unbuckled her seat belt and tried to climb out.
But her leg was stuck.
She pulled hard, but it wouldn’t budge.
A wave of dizziness hit her again.
Then—click!
A sudden sparks appeared on the car hood.
Chantelle’s eyes widened in fear.
Am I going to die like this?
The thought flashed through Chantelle’s mind as fear took over.
Then, out of nowhere, a pair of polished leather shoes appeared in front of her.
She looked up instinctively.
A familiar, handsome face came into view.
"Jo!" she gasped.
That was what she used to call Joseph back then when he was her senior.
"Chantie, how are you? It’s been a while," Joseph said with a smile as he looked down at her.
Before Chantelle could answer, Joseph grabbed her shoulder and pulled her out of the car.
Her legs gave out. She was still dizzy.
Joseph quickly held her in his arms and ran.
Just as they got away, the car was eaten by the raging flames. Then came a loud explosion.
The overwhelming explosion made Chantelle lose consciousness instantly.
When Chantelle woke up, she noticed she was in a hospital room.
She opened her eyes and saw Joseph sitting at the edge of her bed. He was reading a magazine, wearing gold-rimmed glasses.
She was surprised and quickly sat up.
"Don’t move," Joseph said calmly, still looking at the magazine. "The doctor said you have a mild concussion. You need to rest. If you keep moving, you’ll only make it worse."
"Why did you save me?" Chantelle asked, confused.
"I’m your senior. Of course, I saved you," Joseph replied.
"Really? Because from what I remember, you always take revenge."
"Well, things are different now. I was angry about what you did, but I decided to forgive you," Joseph said. He closed the magazine and set it aside. Then he stood up and poured a glass of water for her.
Chantelle didn’t take the glass. She looked away and ignored him.
"Do you think I’ll believe that?" she asked coldly.
Joseph didn’t get upset. He took her hands and placed the glass in them.
Chantelle tried to pull away, but she couldn’t move.
The glass was filled with hot water. As soon as Chantelle touched it, her hands felt the heat. She shook the glass instinctively.
The glass immediately fell to the floor and shattered.
Joseph stared at the broken pieces. His face turned cold for a moment. Then he forced a smile.
"You’ll believe me... because I’m in love with you."
Chantelle was stunned when she heard his words.
Then, she suddenly laughed.
"Ha! That’s not funny. You need to come up with a better joke," she said.
She wasn’t ready to deal with this.
To her, the scariest thing wasn’t Joseph hating her—It was him actually liking her.
"You can deny it, but I mean every word," Joseph stated clearly.
Can he just stop already? Chantelle mentally screamed.
"Jo, if you’re serious, then listen to me. I’m legally married to Daniel. I’m not planning to divorce him," Chantelle blurted out.
"Chantie, I’ll remove anyone who stands between us—even your husband."
"J-Joseph, are you crazy?" Chantelle asked sharply as she stammered. Her anger flared up the moment she heard that.
"Chantie, are you unhappy with me?" Joseph asked.
"How would you feel if someone threatened the person you love?" Chantelle shot back.
"Chantie, I’d do anything for you."
Just talking to Joseph made her even more furious.
How could someone be this shameless?
Hold on. Wait a second.
"Joseph, did you send Lone Wolf to mess with Daniel?" Chantelle asked. She should’ve figured it out earlier.
"Chantie, you’ve always been the sharpest," Joseph said, clearly proud of himself.
He even had a smug smile on his face.
"What’s your reason?" Chantelle demanded an answer from him.
Chantelle had never heard of any conflict between Joseph and Daniel. They didn’t even have a connection—except for the same last name.
"You are the reason!" Joseph said.
"Can you answer me seriously?" Chantelle frowned.
"I’m not lying. My answer stays the same," Joseph replied, smiling proudly at her.
"Fine, if you’re going to keep acting crazy, I’ll have to teach you a lesson," Chantelle said with a sigh.
She threw a steel ball at him when he wasn’t paying attention.
Joseph caught it by reflex.
Then a loud boom followed.
