Russell happily smiled at her. "Well, we don’t just have the best medical tools. We’ve also got the best security system!" he said, trying to lessen the tension. He was just happy he could protect Chantelle.

"Thank you for everything," Chantelle said again, her face showing true gratitude.

"No worries at all, Boss!" Russell replied, feeling a bit shy with all the praise.

"Please let Daniel know that the person who helped murder Grandpa has been arrested and sent to the police station," Chantelle said. "He can handle the rest however he wants."

"Got it! I’m going now!" Russell said. Before leaving, he grabbed the "patient" on the bed—Cooper, who was pretending to be an injured Chantelle.

"Come on, Cooper! You’re taking this too far. The show’s over!"

Cooper stood up slowly, still wrapped in bandages. He walked out with Russell. "Russell, that woman was nuts! She ripped the tubes out without even blinking. I think I’m traumatized," he said, talking about Ruby.

Their voices faded as they walked away.

Chantelle sat on the sofa inside the hospital room full of mixed feelings. The woman she thought was her mother had tried to kill her.

At least we’re not really related, she told herself.

Roman was so excited about the livestream that he couldn’t sleep. He got up at sunrise and waited all day for evening to come.

Leon Network had already sent him $150,000 and signed the deal. If the livestream went well, he’d get the rest and a deposit for the next one.

He sat on the couch, sipping tea, thinking about how much he’d earn.

It would be at least $450,000. That was more than any sales job could offer. He couldn’t wait to live the high life again. He started feeling hungry and looked around for his wife.

Then he remembered that Ruby went to check on Chantelle last night and hadn’t come back.

"Where did that old hag go now? Did she forget where home is?" Roman muttered.

He had always let Ruby do whatever she wanted, but things were different now. He was about to become a famous livestream host!

How could she leave me starving at home?

Annoyed, Roman picked up his phone to call her, but it went straight to voicemail. He was about to try again when Kingsley called him.

"Sir, we have a lead on last night’s incident. A nearby shop’s security camera caught the person on video," Kingsley reported quickly over the phone.

"Oh? Who was the idiot that caused all this mess?" Roman asked. He still felt dizzy thinking about the damage.

"It was James," Kingsley answered.

"James? The former CFO? Why would he do that? Do we owe him anything?" Roman frowned.

The name did sound familiar.

As the CFO, James was partly to blame when the company lost billions.

If Ruby hadn’t begged for him, Roman wouldn’t have just fired him—he would’ve had him thrown in jail too.

"Sir, as far as I know, we don’t owe him anything. He was fired, but we paid him everything before he left," Kingsley explained.

"Then what’s his problem?! I can’t even sleep at night knowing people like him are after me!" Roman shouted.

He was fed up with all the sabotage and threats lately.

But James Lowe was just a former CFO.

What kind of grudge did he have? And how could he dare to do something like this?

The more Roman thought about it, the angrier he got.

"Umm..." Kingsley paused.

"Spit it out, Kingsley! I don’t have time for this!" Roman barked.

"I’ve been looking into this James since last night. I found something... strange about his connection with Mrs. Bently," Kingsley said carefully.

"Unusual relationship? What does that mean? Is he one of Ruby’s relatives?" Roman asked.

He wasn’t surprised.

Ruby often put her family members into the company. He thought that their company’s downfall was partly because of those useless people.

"I won’t let him off even if he’s related to her! If he shows up again, report him to the police right away!" Roman growled.

"Sir..." Kingsley cleared his throat. "James was most likely having an affair with Mrs. Bently. They’ve known each other for years. She handles most of his assets. James also runs an illegal video business. He earns hundreds of thousands a month from it," Kingsley said carefully.

He had told Roman most of the truth, but left out the part about the videos mostly featuring Ruby.

All these years, he believed Roman still had feelings for her, so he didn’t want to destroy her image in his eyes.

As someone who had served the family for many years, he decided to reveal everything slowly.

"What?!" Roman shouted over the phone. "Are you saying that woman cheated on me?!"

Roman couldn’t believe it.

With each passing second, he felt like he was losing all faith in people.

That shameless woman was already old, yet she was still chasing men.

Wasn’t being Mrs. Bently enough for her? Had she run away to be with her lover?

As those thoughts filled his mind, he kicked the coffee table in anger. But he lost his balance. He slipped and hit his head on the table’s edge.

Blood poured from a new cut on his forehead. His old arm wound reopened, and the bandages were soaked in blood.

"Sir, are you okay? Sir?" Kingsley called out from the other end, and panic consumed him.

Roman didn’t answer. He lay on the floor, surrounded by broken glass.

An hour later, the ambulance arrived. Kingsley had called for help when he sensed something was wrong.

Roman was awake, but he couldn’t move. His eyes were full of fear and fury.

Kingsley stayed by his side, calling out to him again and again, but Roman stayed silent.

Just before he was taken into surgery, he grabbed Kingsley’s hand, looked at him, and said, "Kingsley, I’ll never forgive that woman... Never..."

At Western Hill Villa, Chantelle was finally enjoying a peaceful night’s sleep. She felt warm all night like she was wrapped in a cozy blanket on a cold day. There were no bad dreams. She slept soundly until morning.

When she woke up and rubbed her eyes, she suddenly realized she was holding onto something warm. Her sleepiness vanished in an instant when she saw Daniel’s smiling face right in front of her.
