Chapter 155: Chapter 155: I’m Still Your Mother!
To keep herself from being seen by Chantelle’s staff, Ruby stayed far behind them on the way to the hospital. She waited until they had gone in before getting out of her own car.
Ruby slipped inside the hospital parking area and parked her car.
She wasn’t done yet. She grabbed a nurse’s uniform from a changing room as soon as she entered the hospital hallway, planning to look for Chantelle herself.
If Chantelle was close to dying, Ruby would gladly help speed things up.
Chantelle was nothing more than her unwanted daughter. A girl who made her angry from the start. Letting her live brought no benefit. If she died, so be it.
The hospital felt strangely quiet. It wasn’t like the usual busy scene with doctors and nurses rushing around.
Ruby guessed that Chantelle must be in one of the VIP rooms. These rooms had the best equipment and private space.
Ruby knew this hospital well. She had visited often back when the Bently family was still wealthy. She remembered how Kate used to come here for expensive facials when she was still with Daniel.
Thinking about it made Ruby’s chest tighten. The pain quickly turned into rage as she walked through the halls.
Everything Chantelle had now should’ve been Kate’s!
Dressed as a nurse uniform, Ruby started checking the hospital rooms one by one, looking for Chantelle.
Ruby had already checked a few rooms, but it was harder than she thought to find Chantelle.
Then she saw a young nurse walking by. She stopped her and asked where Chantelle’s room was.
The nurse told her without asking questions, probably thinking Ruby was a senior nurse.
When Ruby got to the correct room, she checked who was inside through the glass wall.
The patient inside was covered in gauze and hooked up to machines. They were breathing through a respirator. It looked serious.
Ruby slowly slipped into the room and walked up to the bed to get a closer look. She couldn’t stop herself from laughing.
"Ha ha ha! Chantelle! How unlucky can you be?" she laughed, nearly losing her balance. She held onto a machine to stable herself, then straightened up.
"You look so pitiful, darling. Want me to help you out? Think of it as a kind favor. Maybe in your next life, you won’t be born as my illegitimate daughter again. How disgusting!"
Ruby reached for the plug on the respirator.
The moment she finished speaking, she pulled it out of the socket.
She watched as the patient began gasping for air, struggling to breathe. A twisted smile spread across her face.
"Chantelle, I bet you didn’t know... Old Mr. Wilson died just like this. He kept fighting until he couldn’t anymore!" Ruby laughed loudly, spinning around the room with the plug in her hand.
When she saw the body stop moving, she turned to leave, feeling overjoyed.
But before she could get far, a cold voice filled the room.
"So, you played a big part in Grandpa’s death too. I really didn’t expect that from you, Ruby Bently."
Chantelle walked into the room and her eyes were like a sharp dagger as she cornered Ruby.
"What are you saying? His death was your fault! Don’t try to blame me, you heartless witch!" Ruby shouted, trying to defend herself.
"I think you know the truth better than anyone. But even if you won’t admit it, it’s fine. Kate’s the one who’ll suffer for it anyway..." Chantelle said mockingly.
"What are you talking about? What did you do to Kate?!" Ruby cried out and her eyes were full of panic.
Did Daniel already know the truth about Kate? Was that why he refused to marry anyone but Chantelle? What would happen to Kate now? Did Chantelle do something to her daughter? Ruby’s mind was flooded with questions and fear gripped her heart tightly.
"Kate said it herself. She was the one behind Grandpa’s death. I should’ve known her smart mother helped cover it up all this time. But it’s over now, my dear stepmother," Chantelle said gravely.
"You crazy girl! What are you talking about? Are you really going to ignore your own mother?" Ruby screamed, acting like she didn’t understand everything.
But inside, she was terrified.
Did Kate really confess to killing Old Mr. Wilson? How could that be?
If it were true, the Wilson family would hate them forever.
When did Chantelle find out Ruby wasn’t her real mother?
She didn’t even seem shocked when she said it. Ruby was full of questions, but all she could do was yell to change the topic.
"Russell, did you get the footage? Call the police. Trying to kill a hospital patient is a serious crime," Chantelle said as she glanced at Ruby, who looked lost and scared.
She then let out a cold laugh. She wasn’t just laughing at Ruby. She was laughing at her past self too. She used to beg Ruby for love. Even when Ruby left her with nothing, she still thought Ruby had her reasons.
Young Chantelle was so stupid to believe her so-called family!
"Yes, Boss! The cameras caught everything clearly. Ms. Bently’s face was recorded in full view. She can’t deny what she did," Russell replied. He signaled the guards, and they quickly stepped in to surround Ruby.
"Chantelle, I’m still your mother! You can’t do this to me! How could you accuse me of murder?!" Ruby screamed in panic.
As the guards grabbed her arms, it finally hit her—this was real.
Chantelle had turned the tables on her. She will soon be in prison!
"Ruby, I’ve known for a long time that you’re not my real mother. And honestly, you never deserved to be," Chantelle said as she walked up to her and looked directly into Ruby’s eyes.
"As for Grandpa’s death, I don’t have proof that you helped yet. But I’ll keep looking. You better hope you stay in prison for life, because if you ever walk free, I’ll be waiting."
Ruby’s skin crawled with goosebumps as the truth sank in. The guards led her out of the hospital, and her cries echoed down the hallway, making Chantelle frown in irritation.
"Russell, thank you. You caught Ruby the moment she came into the hospital," Chantelle said with true gratitude.
She didn’t want to think about what could have happened if Russell hadn’t acted fast. She never thought Ruby would go this far to harm her.
