“What should we do?” Quan Yifei’s face showed urgency, “If the third brother finds out, he will be anxious. Should we call him first?”

“No, we can’t call Jingwu at this critical moment.” Quan Mingxuan outright rejected the idea. Jingwu was currently on a mission, and if he got distracted and something went wrong, that would be terrible.

“Don’t panic yet. Jian Qing is very capable; she shouldn’t run into trouble. And she doesn’t know where Jingwu is. She shouldn’t be able to find the place so quickly.”

Quan Yifei nodded her head but couldn’t quite calm the worry at the bottom of her heart.

The night grew deeper, with murder lurking in the shadows.

“Ah–”

A hoarse scream tore through the air, sending chills down one’s spine.

In the dimly lit dungeon, a chilling atmosphere permeated everywhere.

A faint smell of blood spread in the air, nauseating to those who smelled it.

Shen Hua sat on a chair, legs crossed, with a whip in his hand stained with shocking streaks of blood.

In front of him, A’er was tied to a cross, his hands cuffed to wooden stakes. His black clothing was tattered from the whip, his body covered in lash marks—his condition could be described as ‘flayed and gaping’.

“A’er, I saved your life back then, and this is how you repay me, hm?”

His voice was low and hoarse, unable to hide his displeasure.

“I’ve warned you more than once. Do not side with Ayan and oppose me. Are you deaf?”

A’er hung his head, sweat dripping down from his forehead.

“A’er, do you think I wouldn’t dare lay a hand on you because you have Ayan?” Shen Hua asked angrily.

A’er gasped for air, barely moving. Every movement he made felt like his wounds were being torn apart, “Young Master, A’er wouldn’t dare.”

“Wouldn’t dare?” Shen Hua laughed coldly, “If you wouldn’t dare, then where did you get the guts to mess with the shipment to F Country? A’er, I’ve given you so many chances. It’s you who doesn’t cherish them.”

After speaking, he glanced at Ada who stood aside and gestured with his eyes.

Ada nodded in understanding, picked up the bucket from the ground, and looked up at A’er with a trace of reluctance in his eyes.

“What are you waiting for? Do you also want to betray me?”

A cold command sounded from behind him; Ada closed his eyes, lifted the bucket, and splashed its contents onto A’er.

In an instant, the pungent smell of chili pepper melted into the air.

“Ah–”

A’er threw his head back, his eyes nearly bursting.

The piercing scream echoed in the dungeon, mixed with Shen Hua’s cold laughter.

Ada placed the bucket down and looked away.

Shen Hua threw the whip aside, looking at A’er who was gasping for breath, a cruel smile appearing on his face, “A’er, you helped Ayan screw up the deal in F Country this time. Now, this is just the beginning.”

“Thud thud–”

Rapid footsteps approached swiftly; Shen Hua frowned and glanced to the side, “Go see what’s going on.”

“Yes.”

Ada glanced at A’er and left.

In no time, he returned, hurrying back.

“Master, it’s bad, the second young master is coming with people.”

Shen Hua’s icy eyes narrowed, and a sharp, cold smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.

“No need to stop him, let him in.”

Ada nodded and gestured to someone not far away.

Shortly after, Shen Yan stormed in, a fierce aura about him, followed by several men in black.

Shen Hua stood up, his gaze flicking towards A’er before shifting away to the approaching figure.

“Ayan, you certainly found your way here quickly. It seems this piece of trash holds some weight in your heart.”

The mocking tone viciously stabbed at Shen Yan.

He strode up to Shen Hua with an aggressive step; the two men’s eyes met, sparks of confrontation flying between them in the air.

A gunpowder scent invisibly spread, making everyone around too scared to utter a word.

Shen Yan looked past him, his eyes settling on A’er, who was bound to a cross, a strong surge of guilt welling up within him, “Get someone to untie him.”

“Yes.”

The men in black who had come with him made a move, but Ada stepped forward, blocking their path.

Shen Yan’s eyes swept toward Ada, and his gun flashed out, the dark muzzle aimed at him, “Move.”

Ada refused, looking to Shen Hua, awaiting his command.

“Huh!”

Shen Hua laughed, a hint of scorn woven into his sneer.

“Ada.”

Ada looked at Shen Yan and stepped aside.

Two of the men in black went forward and untied A’er’s hands, helping him down from the cross.

“Second Master!” A’er called out weakly.

Shen Yan, disregarding the filth on him, lifted his hand and gently patted A’er’s shoulder, “Sorry.”

A’er shook his head, his eyes filled with worry as they met Shen Yan’s.

“Shen Hua, if you have a grievance, take it up with me. Don’t take it out on the people around me,” Shen Yan said, his gaze locking onto Shen Hua’s as he spoke in a chilling voice.

“Hahaha!”

Shen Hua laughed heartily, then his eyes suddenly darkened, “Shen Yan, what right do you have to speak to me like that? If you don’t want the people around you to get hurt, you shouldn’t be opposing me time and time again. Keeping this betrayer around is inviting disaster. Do you think I’d let him off?”

Shen Yan stepped forward, seizing Shen Hua by the collar, “What exactly do you want?”

Shen Hua grabbed his hand and flung it away, creating slight wrinkles on his shirt, “What I want, Shen Yan, is for you to understand. You went behind my back to save Jian Qing and let her go, fully aware that the F Country deal was crucial to me. You chose to strike there of all places. If not for the fact that we are brothers, I would have flayed you long ago.”

Shen Yan looked at him coldly, “If you insist on killing A’er, then I might as well ruin the entire F Country deal. I stop, you let A’er go, or you kill A’er, and we continue our fight.”

His words completely enraged Shen Hua, his face turning an iron shade of blue as he glared, “Shen Yan, if you dare do that, I’ll make sure Quan Jingwu dies in F Country.”

“What do you mean?” Shen Yan’s heart skipped a beat.

“Thanks to you, our transaction location in F Country was compromised, drawing even the China side’s people here. I had them captured, but Quan Jingwu managed to rescue them. You think I shouldn’t take this chance to take care of him while he’s here?” Shen Hua said with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.

The corner of Shen Yan’s mouth twitched, “If you’ve got the guts, go ahead and touch him. If Quan Jingwu were so easy to take down, I don’t think you would have waited until now without making a move, would you?”

Shen Yan’s words struck home.

Shen Hua looked as if someone had stepped on his tail, his expression becoming extremely unsightly, “Shen Yan, then you just wait and see how many people you can protect.”

“Ada, let’s go.”

Shen Hua left with a flick of his sleeve, but before he went, he shot A’er a glance, his voice ice cold, “A’er, if you help Ayan again, the next time will be your end.”
