Chapter 958: 944, this is the end (1) Chapter 958: 944, this is the end (1) “You rest up first; I’m going to find the Boss. We can talk more later.” Yi Kai stood up and pulled out the chair.

“Mhm, pass on my thanks to Jingwu.” Ouyang Yu said.

Yi Kai walked out the door, raising his hand in a wave, “You can save your thanks for when you see him yourself.”

Ouyang Yu smirked, but accidentally tugged at the wound on the corner of his mouth, grimacing in pain.

“Hiss–”

Damn.

When he caught those guys, he would definitely get his revenge for this time.

Beijing

It was a rare weekend, and Quan Yifei slept until noon before getting up. By the time she came downstairs, Jian Qing had already taken the two little treasures out for a walk and was back.

“Second brother, what are you doing at home?”

Quan Yifei scratched her head, her bed hair not yet combed and a match for the bird nests on the trees outside.

Quan Mingxuan, dressed in light blue casual clothes, looked handsome and gentle. He glanced up at her and said, “Is it strange for me to be at home?”

“Indeed.” Quan Yifei said cheerfully.

Usually, on weekends, if they didn’t happen to see him at dinner, his whereabouts were always unknown.

At these words, Quan Mingxuan laughed and scolded, “Go away.”

Quan Yifei made a face at him and then headed to the kitchen.

“Sister-in-law, what are you doing?”

Seeing Jian Qing in the kitchen as well, Quan Yifei asked curiously.

“Washing some fruit. Want some?” Jian Qing took the washed strawberries, glanced sideways at her, and asked, “They’re pretty sweet.”

“Sure.” Quan Yifei picked up a strawberry and nibbled on it, glanced aside, then leaned close to her, “Sister-in-law, have you thought about what you want for your gift?”

Jian Qing dried her hands, “Not yet.”

“Why don’t you ask Second Brother? He’s more observant and understands Third Brother better,” Quan Yifei offered her suggestion, “Tomorrow is Third Brother’s birthday. If you don’t prepare now, it will be too late.”

Jian Qing nodded, “Then I’ll go ask him later.”

“Mhm.”

Quan Yifei rummaged for food in the kitchen while Jian Qing carried out a full plate of fruit.

“Grandma, where’s Mingxuan?” She put down the fruit plate, and Seventeen and Nineteen immediately came over. Their chubby hands grabbed strawberries, and faint dimples appeared at the corners of their mouths.

“Your grandpa just came back; they went up to the study room together,” Granny said.

Jian Qing lifted her gaze toward the upstairs, her eyes gradually deepening.

Could it be related to Jingwu?

After pondering for a bit, she turned and headed upstairs.

In the study room, the faint scent of tea wafted about.

Quan Mingxuan sprawled on the sofa as if boneless, his languor contrasting with the serious expression of the elder Mr. Quan.

“Grandpa, you really don’t need to worry. You know Jingwu; if he doesn’t do anything to others, they should be thanking their lucky stars already. There’s no way he would be at a disadvantage,” Quan Mingxuan said lightly, trying to ease his grandfather’s tension.

“Ouyang Yu said Jingwu got shot; this is enough to show that the opponent isn’t easy to deal with.” Elder Mr. Quan held a teacup, hadn’t taken a sip yet, and then placed the lid back on.

“This matter has gotten big. Otherwise, the higher-ups wouldn’t have let Jingwu step in.”

Quan Mingxuan narrowed his eyes, “How is Ouyang Yu and his situation, exactly? Were there heavy casualties?”

“Quite a few people were injured. Luckily Jingwu and his team arrived in time, otherwise Ouyang Yu and his companions might not have made it back,” Elder Mr. Quan said.

“Grandpa, you can rest assured, Jingwu will be fine,” Quan Mingxuan reassured.

“Hope so.”

Outside the door, Jian Qing’s gaze fell softly, the depth of her dark pupils unfathomable.

“Ouyang Yu said Jingwu got shot.”

The hoarse voice of Elder Mr. Quan echoed in her ears, and her hands hanging by her side slowly clenched.

He’s been shot!

Soft footsteps sounded, and she turned to leave.

By the time her figure disappeared around the corner, the study room’s tightly closed door opened.

Quan Mingxuan looked back and forth along the empty corridor, scratching his head.

Could it be that he’d been overthinking?

Jian Qing returned to her room, hastily changed her clothes, took her cellphone and car keys, and then closed the door behind her as she went downstairs.

“Seventeen, will you give your auntie a strawberry to eat, pretty please?” Quan Yifei sat on the blanket, teasing Seventeen for the strawberry in his hand.

“No, it’s Mommy’s.” Seventeen shook his head firmly, hiding his strawberry-holding hand behind him.

Quan Yifei pretended to rub her eyes, making a pitiful face, “Seventeen doesn’t love auntie anymore, auntie is so sad.”

“Auntie, fake.” Nineteen ate his strawberry, his eyes curving happily as he spoke.

“…”

Quan Yifei was covered in metaphorical black lines.

Are kids these days all so shrewd?

Just then, footsteps echoed from the stairway.

She looked up, a touch of surprise flickering in her eyes, “Sister-in-law, are you going out?”

“Mhm.”

Jian Qing fastened her hat, and Seventeen ran over, hugging her thigh.

“Mommy, eat.”

He lifted the strawberry he had just hidden, his clear eyes shining with a bright smile.

“Thank you, Seventeen.” Jian Qing squatted down, accepted the strawberry he handed over, and took a bite, “Seventeen, you and Nineteen be good at home, okay? Mommy has to step out for a bit, but I’ll be back soon.”

Hearing her words, Rhee asked curiously, “Little Qingqing, where are you going?”

“To find someone.” Jian Qing said, “Mom, please look after Seventeen and the others for me. I’ll be back very soon.”

“Sure, just drive carefully and don’t speed,” Rhee cautioned.

Jian Qing acknowledged with a noise and briskly walked out.

“Weird, why is sister-in-law in such a hurry? Who is she off to find?” Quan Yifei gazed at her retreating figure, expressing her confusion.

“What are you all crowding around the top of the stairs for?” Quan Mingxuan came downstairs, saw Quan Yifei and others blocking the stairway, “Is it cooler here or something?”

“No, sister-in-law just left.” Quan Yifei rolled her eyes at him, continuing on her own track, “Could she have gone to buy a birthday present for big brother?”

“Wait, what did you say?” Quan Mingxuan suddenly remembered something and abruptly grabbed her arm, “Did you say Jian Qing went out?”

Quan Yifei could not understand his strong reaction, “Yes, so what?”

“Did Jian Qing go upstairs after I went up?” Quan Mingxuan asked.

“It seems like she did.” Quan Yifei said, “Sister-in-law mentioned she wanted to ask about buying a gift for big brother, so she probably went up to find you, didn’t you know?”

“This is bad.”

Quan Mingxuan let go of her arm, smacked his forehead.

“Now we’re in trouble.”

“Axuan, what’s wrong, do you know where Little Qingqing went?” Rhee sensed something was off and quickly asked.

Quan Mingxuan said, “Jian Qing must have overheard the conversation I had with Grandpa; she’s run off to find Jingwu.”

“To find Jingwu?” Rhee exclaimed in shock.

“Auntie, don’t panic just yet, I’ll call Jian Qing first.” Saying this, Quan Mingxuan took out his phone and walked aside to make the call.

“Beep Beep Beep…”

After a while, no one answered the phone, and Quan Mingxuan’s gaze darkened.

“Big brother, did sister-in-law answer the call?” Quan Yifei approached him and asked.
