Chapter 893: 879, then I will keep the gate for you (2) Chapter 893: 879, then I will keep the gate for you (2) “Your woman?” Lin Yi’s face grew cold, “Mingyan just said that you’re merely a friend of hers. Besides, forced affection never ends well. Can’t you see that Mingyan is repulsed by you?”
A cold, sharp glint burst from Bai Jue’s eyes, his demeanor intimidating, “My relationship with her isn’t your business. And remember, she’s mine. You’d better not covet her.”
“Whom Mingyan wants to be with is her choice. I have no right to interfere,” Lin Yi met his gaze unflinchingly, speaking defiantly, “Similarly, you have no right to interfere.”
“Don’t worry, when the time comes for our wedding, we’ll definitely invite you,” Bai Jue stated confidently, one hand in his pocket, his brows shining with self-assurance.
Watching Bai Jue’s retreating figure, Lin Yi chuckled softly to himself.
That’s when Quan Mingxuan emerged from a corner, casually strolling over to him, “Lin Yi, long time no see, huh?”
Hearing that familiar voice, Lin Yi turned to look at the person beside him, teasing, “Quan Mingxuan, indeed it’s been a long time.”
“Yo, back from the trip and you’re already dissing me.” Quan Mingxuan playfully punched his shoulder, jokingly saying, “You really know how to put on a show as soon as you get back.”
“Was that Bai Jue your doing?” Lin Yi was no fool. Seeing Bai Jue leave and Quan Mingxuan appear, he quickly figured everything out.
He had thought it strange that his mother had said it would only be him and Mingyan today, yet Bai Jue had suddenly appeared. It turned out this guy was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
After all these years, his mischief hadn’t changed one bit.
“Not at all, I just mentioned that Mingyan was dining here and he showed up,” Quan Mingxuan curled his lips in schadenfreude, “I thought you were going to get a beating for sure, but I didn’t expect the show to end so soon. Quite disappointing.”
“Hey, aren’t we supposed to be schoolmates? You’re really looking forward to seeing me get beat up, huh.” Lin Yi said annoyed, “That’s not very kind of you.”
Quan Mingxuan then asked, “By the way, how did you end up together with Mingyan?”
“Nothing much. I just came back for my grandma’s birthday party, and my mom couldn’t wait to set me up on a blind date, and then it turned out the way you saw.”
“A blind date with Mingyan?” Quan Mingxuan tried to hold back his laughter, “Judging by how you were speaking with Bai Jue just now, are you planning to pursue Mingyan?”
Watching him struggle not to laugh, Lin Yi gave him a sidelong glance, “Before Bai Jue showed up, maybe I had that idea.”
“Wise of you to realize that. Just a friendly warning, that brother is not someone you want to mess with. Stay away from him. He definitely sees you as a love rival now,” Quan Mingxuan squinted his eyes, a smile clear in his gaze.
“Hey, why do I feel like you’re always speaking on Bai Jue’s behalf?” Lin Yi frowned, feigning dissatisfaction.
“It’s not easy, but you finally noticed,” Quan Mingxuan patted his shoulder and walked into the private room.
“Come on, let’s have a few drinks.”
Lin Yi shook his head with a smile and followed him in.
The drizzle was like mist, scattering in the air.
After the thunder rumbled, the fierce wind lashed the raindrops hard against the window glass.
Inside the flower shop, the orange light was on.
Zhan Mingyan came out with a bowl of instant noodles and looked up at the pitch-black night outside the window, slowly making her way to the couch.
She kicked off her shoes and sat cross-legged on the sofa, starting to eat her noodles.
Rainy days and instant noodles went perfectly together.
“Dong dong dong—”
Urgent knocking sounds came. Zhan Mingyan slurped up a mouthful of noodles, put down the bowl, slipped on her shoes, and walked toward the glass door.
She reached out to part the door curtains, and as lightning split the sky, the disheveled figure of a man came into view, his handsome face drenched and covered in rain.
Without a second thought, she pulled back the door curtain and took out the keys to open the door.
“Are you insane? What are you doing here in the rain?” Zhan Ming pushed the door open, stood aside, and pulled the person inside.
“Bai Jue, is getting soaked fun for you? What on earth are you thinking?”
Bai Jue wiped the rainwater from his face, and under the gentle light, the faintly red handprint on his cheek was still very clear.
He cracked a smile, “I wanted to find you.”
Zhan Mingyan looked at him, feeling as if punching into cotton—filled with a sense of powerlessness, “What on earth do you want to do, wasn’t this afternoon at Qianshi Restaurant enough?”
“I went to your house to look for you, but you weren’t there. Your mom told me you were at the flower shop,” Bai Jue said, dodging the question.
“…”
It was her dear mother again.
Was she really even her birth mother?
“What do you want to find me for?”
Bai Jue frankly said, “I wanted to see you.”
Hearing this, Zhan Mingyan felt a bit embarrassed, concealed the unnaturalness in her eyes, and said, “It’s already late, if there’s nothing important, you should head back early.”
“My car broke down,” Bai Jue said, looking pitiful.
“Stop trying to garner sympathy here,” Zhan Mingyan didn’t buy it.
“The car really broke down; otherwise, how could I end up soaked like this?” Bai Jue spread his hands, his clothes completely drenched and his hair still dripping.
“Chew—”
He sneezed, and the water from his head splashed onto Zhan Mingyan’s face. She was just about to send him away when she looked up and saw the palm print on his face. The words that were on the tip of her tongue were swallowed back down.
Without saying a word, she turned around and went inside.
Bai Jue looked around, and seeing the steaming bowl of instant noodles on the table, he quickly walked over.
“Dry your hair, then hurry up and call a car to go back,” Zhan Mingyan said as she came out with a towel, only to see him eating the instant noodles she had just had, her mouth twitching slightly.
“Who let you touch my instant noodles?”
“I’ve been busy looking for you since I left Qianshi Restaurant and haven’t had dinner,” Bai Jue said with a cheeky grin as he slurped up the noodles.
“Well, you didn’t have to eat mine. Isn’t there another cup of instant noodles there?” Zhan Mingyan said, at a loss for words.
“No problem, I don’t mind,” Bai Jue took a sip of soup and said with a smile.
“…”
Damn, she minded, okay?
She threw the towel at him and sat down opposite him, “It’s getting late, hurry up and go outside to call a cab.”
“Aren’t you going back?” Bai Jue asked casually as he dried his hair with the towel, glancing at her sideways.
“I’m going to sleep here tonight,” she said.
Her parents weren’t home today, and she would be alone if she went back anyway. Staying at the shop made no difference, as there was a small room available inside.
“Then I’ll stand guard for you,” Bai Jue offered eagerly, “It’s not safe for a girl to be here alone.”
Zhan Mingyan flatly rejected, “No need.”
She felt much less safe with him here.
“It’s okay, I can sleep on the sofa,” Bai Jue persisted.
“No way, you need to leave right now,” Zhan Mingyan said firmly. If he stayed the night and her mother found out, she wouldn’t be able to explain herself, besides, she and he weren’t in any sort of relationship now, so why should they spend the night together here.
