Chapter 840: 826. It’s me who doesn’t get the hint (2) Chapter 840: 826. It’s me who doesn’t get the hint (2) No, she couldn’t say it, nor was she allowed to.
Zhan Mingyan had her own pride.
“Just passing by?” Bai Jue narrowed his eyes. “Do you think I would believe that?”
“Believe it or not, it’s up to you,” Zhan Mingyan said indifferently. “You had already promised me before that we would not interact. Please keep your promise.”
“Heh.”
Bai Jue let out a cold laugh and grabbed her hand. “Zhan Mingyan, it was you who ran to me. That can’t be considered as me breaking my promise, can it?”
Zhan Mingyan’s face suddenly turned ugly as she shook off his hand and stepped back. “I’ve said that I was just passing by. You have time to argue with me about this, so you might as well go back to your woman lest she endures a lonely room.”
Listening to the words coming from her mouth, a fire surged up in Bai Jue’s heart. He took a quick step forward and looked down at her with commanding eyes, his voice steady as he asked, “Then do you want to go back with me and finish watching the play you didn’t get to see to the end, hm?”
“You’re shameless.” Zhan Mingyan’s face turned red with anger, the image of that woman coquettishly beneath him flashing through her mind again.
She angrily pushed him away. “Bai Jue, if you need an audience, I can go find a large group of people to come and watch the show for you, but sorry, even looking at you one more time feels like a waste of my time.”
A waste of time?
Bai Jue’s eyes darkened as he suddenly pulled her into his embrace, his large hand firmly grasping her struggling hands, and he purposefully said, “Zhan Mingyan, you say I am shameless, but what about you? Since when do you take pleasure in watching others’ intimate moments, hm?”
“Let go, let me go.” Zhan Mingyan gritted her teeth with anger, the sight of the lipstick mark on his white shirt from another woman intensifying her disgust.
“Bai Jue, if you don’t let go, I’ll call for help.”
“Sure, go ahead. If you happen to draw your parents over, you probably won’t be able to explain yourself either,” Bai Jue said shamelessly.
“You wouldn’t dare,” Zhan Mingyan glared at him angrily.
Bai Jue raised an eyebrow. “Try me.”
See if he’d dare.
“What do you actually want?” Zhan Mingyan stopped struggling and asked.
Bai Jue looked at the person trapped in his arms and suddenly thought this wasn’t so bad. His moderately full lips curved slightly. “You’ve interrupted my good time with someone else; what do you think I should do, hm?”
His words dispersed in the sea breeze as images of him intertwined with another woman in bed kept appearing before Zhan Mingyan’s eyes, her eyes quietly reddening.
She bent her elbow and slammed backwards unexpectedly, and Bai Jue, caught off-guard, stepped back. He let go of her hands, and as Zhan Mingyan, wearing high heels on the fine sand, lost her balance and fell backwards onto the beach.
Splash.
An incoming wave soaked her from head to toe.
Zhan Mingyan sat up, her wet hair plastered to her cheeks, saltwater mixed with tears streaming down her face, perfectly concealed by the night.
Bai Jue ran over, his trouser legs also wet from the waves. He squatted down and, seeing her drenched, his face showed a rare hint of guilt.
“Zhan Mingyan!”
Dodging his outstretched hand, Zhan Mingyan kicked off her high heels and threw them aside. When she stood up, a slight pain shot through her ankle.
Bai Jue withdrew his hand and slowly stood up.
Before he could speak, Zhan Mingyan took the initiative. “I’m sorry, it was my fault. I shouldn’t have interrupted you and someone else. It was my insensitivity, all my fault. Is this apology enough?”
Her hoarse voice carried a slight nasal sound.
Bai Jue frowned at her. “Zhan Mingyan, that’s not what I meant. I was just joking just now.”
“I’ve already apologized. Can I go now?” A cool breeze passed, making her delicate face even paler.
Pushing him away, Zhan Mingyan endured the pain coming from her ankle, desperately fleeing this suffocating place.
Bai Jue stood rooted to the spot, his gaze suddenly falling on her left foot’s ankle, his eyes abruptly turning cold as he quickly chased after her.
He grabbed her arm and hoisted her up sideways, holding her in a standard princess carry.
“What are you doing, put me down.” Zhan Mingyan was puzzled, and upon looking up to see the man’s sharply defined jawline, anger surged within her.
“Bai Jue, put me down, did you hear me?”
“Stay still, you’re a doctor yourself, don’t you know when your ankle is injured?” Bai Jue said coldly.
“I don’t need your concern, put me down.” Zhan Mingyan pushed against him, retorting.
Bai Jue looked down at her, his eyes narrowing dangerously, “If you continue to fuss, I might as well carry you around the wedding banquet and then take you back.”
Zhan Mingyan was livid, “You…”
“Mingyan!”
A man’s hearty voice carried over with the sea breeze from not far away.
Zhan Mingyan looked up and upon seeing the newcomer, she immediately waved at him.
“He Min.”
Bai Jue, seeing the excitement on her face, frowned as he turned to look at the man approaching them.
How is it that he saw this He Min everywhere?
“Mingyan, what happened to you?” He Min asked, surprised to see Zhan Mingyan drenched.
Taking advantage of Bai Jue’s unguarded moment, Zhan Mingyan jumped out of his arms. Her injured ankle twisted again, injury compounded upon injury.
Hisss.
It hurt like hell, definitely bruised and swollen now.
“Are you stupid? Jumping with an injured ankle, are you trying to kill yourself?” Bai Jue’s face was stern as he grabbed her hand to prevent her from falling.
Zhan Mingyan shook off his hand with an expressionless face, “It’s none of your business.”
“Mingyan, are you hurt?” He Min asked urgently.
“It’s nothing, just a twisted ankle, a minor matter,” Zhan Mingyan said gently.
He Min glanced at Bai Jue, a flicker in his eyes, and extended his hand to steady her, “Mingyan, let me take you back, your mother was just looking for you.”
“Alright, that would be a trouble for you.” Zhan Mingyan let him support her, not even casting a glance at Bai Jue, as she followed him away.
They had just walked a few steps when they encountered Li Sisi, who was looking for Bai Jue. Zhan Mingyan gave her a quick glance, a trace of intrigue crossing her eyes.
“Mr. Bai.”
Upon seeing Bai Jue, Li Sisi hurriedly clung to his arm, “Mr. Bai, what are you doing here by the seaside? It’s so chilly here; let’s go back instead.”
Bai Jue watched the two figures growing distant, his eyes darkening. He turned his head to look at the person clinging to him, his interest suddenly gone as he withdrew his hand.
“It’s getting late, Miss Li, you should go back and rest first. I have to go, I’ve got some things to take care of.”
With that, he turned and left, unconcerned with Li Sisi’s disgruntled expression.
“Mr. Bai, Mr. Bai…”
Li Sisi watched his retreating figure, calling out continuously, but he didn’t turn back.
Their little interlude by the seaside didn’t disturb the lively atmosphere of the wedding banquet at all; Black Jack and his companions were determined to get Quan Jingwu drunk or they wouldn’t give up.
After changing his clothes, Bai Jue returned to the banquet. Jian Luo was the first to notice his change of attire, his gaze inquiring as he looked at him, “Bai Jue, how come you took so long to go to the bathroom and even changed your clothes? Come clean, where did you run off to?”
