Chapter 730: 716, Your stupidity is refreshing my values (3)_1 Chapter 730: 716, Your stupidity is refreshing my values (3)_1 That pesky peacock that always flustered her!
Bai Jue sat on a single cushion sofa, his legs crossed, holding a stemmed glass in his finger tips. His laissez-faire posture exhibited his rebellious spirit, and his coy smile left the ladies breathless.
Whatever he said to the women congregated around him was met with unrestrained giggles. This sight ignited a fury in Zhan Mingyan’s heart.
She tightly gripped her wine glass, forcing her gaze away.
Zhan Mingyan, he is nothing but a vain peacock, not worth pining over.
Stop looking at him, stop daydreaming about him, he already rejected you, you shouldn’t be pining over him.
A grim warning echoed in her heart, dimming the brightness of her eyes.
“Bai, why don’t you come over here and have a drink, stop entertaining the ladies.” Gerson shouted.
“Apologies, ladies, I will be right back.” Bai Jue stood up and the women around him moved away.
Out of the corner of her eye, Zhan Mingyan saw Bai Jue making his way towards her, attempting to make herself blend in with the crowd.
“Bai, you didn’t attend the wedding even when you received the invitation, that’s unacceptable, you owe us three shots.” Gerson, holding a bottle of wine, poured three glasses and pushed one towards Bai Jue.
With a smirk, Bai Jue replied, “I did send a present. I got off my flight not too long ago and came straight here. For you newlyweds, consider these three glasses of mine as a blessing for your wedding.”
With that, he grabbed the glass from Gerson and downed it in one go, quickly followed by the other two.
“Bai, for this car race, we’re counting on you to go easy on us. Don’t let us lose too badly.” A man with ashen hair raised his glass towards Bai Jue, his face filled with mirth.
Bai Jue raised an eyebrow, downed another shot, and responded, “I’m only helping you guys to break through your limits.”
“Bai, if we could even have a tenth of your abilities, that’d be enough.” Gerson teased.
“The ability to pick up girls?” Bai Jue retorted, “It’s easy enough for others, but you’ve just got married, don’t say I didn’t warn you when you find yourself sleeping on the couch. That’d be my cross to bear.”
The room erupted into laughter.
Sanny, seeing Zhan Mingyan’s absence, looked around and found her standing at the edge of the crowd.
Sanny pulled Zhan Mingyan back into the group and enthusiastically said, “Mingyan, why are you hiding in the back? Let me introduce you to everyone, don’t be shy.”
The man standing across them interjected, “Sanny you sly fox, who’s this beauty standing next to you? Why haven’t we seen her before?” His deep brown eyes rested on Zhan Mingyan.
“This is my good friend, Zhan Mingyan. None of you better bully her.” Sanny stepped aside, pushing Zhan Mingyan to the front.
“Who would dare bully such a pretty lady?”
Hearing the name “Zhan Mingyan”, Bai Jue turned around and found himself staring at a familiar face, his eyes flickered with surprise.
Ah, a familiar face.
Why is she in here as well?
Feeling Bai Jue’s gaze, Zhan Mingyan lowered her head even further, her heart started to race.
The more she wanted to avoid him, the more attention he seemed to pay to her.
“Zhan Mingyan, what are you doing here?” Bai Jue asked.
His question, asked in Chinese, drew everyone’s attention towards Zhan Mingyan. Though most of them couldn’t understand what he said, they guessed from his tone that he was talking to Zhan Mingyan.
Faced with everyone’s curious glances, Zhan Mingyan had nowhere to hide, she took a deep breath, raised her head, and matched Bai Jue’s gaze.
“Bai Jue, it’s been a while.”
Bai Jue, noticing the blush creeping up her cheeks, smirked and said, “Zhan Mingyan, when did you become so well-mannered?”
Sanny, familiar with both, was naturally fluent in Chinese. Upon hearing their conversation, she was taken aback.
“Mingyan, do you two know each other?”
“We do, but not well enough.” Zhan Mingyan shot a glare at Bai Jue, still fuming at his earlier remarks.
Bai Jue chuckled lightly and said, “On the contrary, I’d say we know each other quite well since I’ve been your life saver once. What do you think?”
Zhan Mingyan made a clucking sound and turned her face away from him.
Without understanding their conversation, the crowd was left baffled, watching the two of them.
“Bai, are you two dating?” a guy with curly hair asked out of curiosity. To him, Bai Jue and Zhan Mingyan looked like a couple mischievously arguing.
“Of course not.” Zhan Mingyan denied immediately.
She gave Bai Jue a sidelong glance and snorted.
Who would fall in love with such a playboy? What a joke.
Rotten carrot, smelly carrot.
Bai Jue, finding amusement in Zhan Mingyan’s apparent disdain for him, thought to himself, how could anyone reject such a handsome and charming man like him.
Such poor taste.
“Do you think we look like we are?” Bai Jue turned to the curly-haired guy, his voice laced with sarcasm.
“It did seem so to me.” The curly haired man laughed.
Bai Jue gave him a playful smack on the head, “In your dreams.”
“Alright, everyone has had their drinks. Let’s get back to the party.” Gerson announced, wanting to save himself from getting drunk.
“Bai, there’s a group of beautiful ladies waiting for you over there.”
Bai Jue laughed softly, “Get lost.”
The crowd burst into laughter, everyone finding themselves a partner to enjoy the party.
In an instant, it was only Bai Jue and Zhan Mingyan left in the corner.
Zhan Mingyan kept her head down, not displaying any emotion.
She was still trying to come up with an excuse to leave.
If she stayed any longer, she feared she might lose it and punch him.
Even though she knew she couldn’t defeat him.
Bai Jue turned to look at her, his eyes twinkling mysteriously. He asked in a quiet voice. “Zhan Mingyan, why are you keeping your head down? Scared of being swept off your feet by my charm?”
…
Zhan Mingyan was at loss for words. He was still as egotistical as ever.
She lifted her head, maintaining a calm expression. “Peacock, do you think you’re the only handsome man in the world? I think Jian Qing’s brother is much more attractive than you.”
Jian Luo had delicate features, androgynously beautiful without being effeminate, with an undeniable air of masculinity about him.
Bai Jue stared at her with amusement, “You haven’t fallen for Jian Luo, have you? A friendly reminder, he’s taken. Best not waste your heart on him.”
At his words, Zhan Mingyan glowered at him. “Bai Jue, you are so stupid that I had to readjust my whole worldview. Truly, there’s no hope for you.”
She liked him, yet he’s still clueless, matching her up with anyone but himself. Apart from being short-sighted, he surely must be stupid.
