Chapter 290: Chapter 45: The One Emperor through the Ages
Though the Holy Emperor Sword was powerful, Konstantin’s level set a limit to its might, and the outcome of their exchange of blows was predestined—Konstantin defeated, the Naga Queen injured, or perhaps neither would be harmed.
Ultimately, it was Konstantin’s weak level that failed to harness the true strength of the Imperial Sword.
Had the Human Race lost?
No!
Just as everyone was succumbing to despair, a figure rushed to Konstantin’s side and took up the Imperial Sword.
As the sword vibrated, a golden barrier expanded outwards. Waves of Magic Power crashed against it, erupting in deafening roars, yet they could not break through.
Who was he? Aside from Konstantin, who else could wield this national treasure?
Lando finally breathed a sigh of relief—deep down, a firm belief took root in his heart.
Ze Xiu turned to Lando and asked, "Do you know who he is?"
"I don’t, but I believe everyone will soon find out."
"Mhm." Ze Xiu nodded and said no more.
The most shocked of all was, of course, Konstantin.
When he had inherited the throne, just controlling the Holy Sword had taken him three years. This wasn’t a question of level or bloodline; it was a process of being recognized by the sword, acknowledging a worthy emperor.
Who was he?
Gazing at the slightly hunched figure...
Could he be the chosen one for the next emperor? Or could it be? The original master of the Imperial Sword?!
"Naga Queen, picking on a junior member of the Human Race doesn’t seem right, does it?"
The Naga Queen’s brows furrowed slightly, "Is it you?"
The Queen recognized him; this old man was crafty, having dealt her a heavy blow and nearly succeeded.
"The battle for the emperor, I’ve taken it over from Konstantin," Caesar said, gripping the Imperial Sword. Blessed with pure power, he grew younger, revealing a youthful face, just like the sculptures and oil paintings enshrined in the Imperial Palace.
"Caesar the Great Emperor?!" The Empire’s soldiers exclaimed in shock. Everyone still alive was among the Empire’s finest; who didn’t know Caesar’s renown?
"You’re called Caesar?" The Naga Queen said, "It seems you were once an emperor of mankind."
"Indeed, so it’s appropriate for me to take his place in this battle."
"Fine, then I’ll kill you first, and then him. Your Human Race is undoubtedly doomed today!" The Naga Queen was undiscriminating—if she faced one, she would kill; if she faced two, she would still kill.
Caesar turned to Konstantin and said, "You step back. I’ll discipline her for you."
"Yes, yes, yes." To Konstantin, speaking with Caesar, an idol to all past emperors, was deeply exciting; and more so, a living idol!
"Now this will be interesting to watch," Lando said with a smile. "Konstantin’s level is too low to unleash the full power of the Imperial Sword, but Caesar the Great Emperor is different; he seems to be a genuine Third Transition strongman."
"It’s the Peak," Ze Xiu corrected Lando’s mistake.
Indeed, Caesar at the Third Transition Peak, wielding the Imperial Sword, would display unimaginable might.
"Konstantin, do you know the source of the Imperial Sword’s power?" Having chosen to reveal himself, Caesar took the opportunity to properly educate the current emperor.
"With all respect, I’m all ears," said Konstantin, his face full of reverence.
"The power of the Imperial Sword comes from the great rivers and mountains under the Sacred Empire," declared Konstantin, raising the sword high. Instantly, the earth quaked as eight streams of Magic Power surged from within the Empire’s borders and converged upon the sword.
"Elders of the Human Race, inscribe divine runes, bless our Empire with eternal prosperity!"
With a loud cry, hundreds of spectral figures slowly materialized around Caesar, enveloping him, whispering unceasingly, "Bless our Empire with eternal prosperity..."
Those spectral figures were the divine spirits of past emperors. United in prayer, the sword seemed to shake off its chains, bursting forth with divine radiance that pierced the heavens.
As copious amounts of Divine Power infused Caesar’s body, the seals of his realm quietly shattered – God Realm! God Realm! God Realm!
Is this the God Realm? The domain where the Heavenly Gods reside?
Caesar had finally fulfilled his long-held wish and stepped through the gates of the Heavenly Gods. Although he was aware that he had no domain of his own and had not truly become a god, and that he would regress back to the Third Transition once time passed, right now, he felt the immense power of being a Heavenly God.
With a single thought, it seemed as if he could command all things in the world; with a single thought, it seemed as if he could decide the life and death of all people. This feeling... was even more intoxicating than when he had ruled the Sacred Empire!
"You are very powerful," the Naga Queen said with a slight squint in her eyes. She sensed a strong threat coming from Caesar; in a god’s eyes, the origins could be seen clearly. It was as if a host of ancient gods stood behind him, bestowing supreme will!
"Thank you for the compliment, and I think our battle can now begin," Caesar said, his voice full of excitement, initiating the attack first.
The Naga Queen also brought out her full strength. The Sea God Trident slashed down fiercely, like the separation of heaven and earth, colliding with the Holy Emperor Sword.
The next moment, both were forced backward. Caesar, new to the God Realm and bold as ever, quickly steadied himself and charged again at the Naga Queen.
Gritting her teeth, the Queen had to admit she was not at her peak. Close to giving birth, part of her strength had already been absorbed by her unborn child. Moreover, she had to divide her attention to wield the Tidal Orb. Coupled with the earlier ambush designed by Caesar, the present Naga Queen could be said to possess less than half of her original power.
As the battle continued, the earth fractured, and the tides surged. A casual strike tore through space, pouring down immense amounts of seawater, and as the waves subsided, the land that had been submerged was now exposed.
"Your Majesty the Queen!" Amidst the alarmed cries of the sea race’s strongest, Caesar’s sword descended upon the Naga Queen’s arm, reducing her eight arms by one.
With the shedding of divine blood, the Queen’s momentum kept falling.
To speak of the Queen’s ire, Caesar being uplifted to the God Realm was indeed not by his own strength—he had not developed his own domain. However, the Holy Emperor Sword contained the will of all the ancient gods of the Human Race. This amalgamation of wills was enough to suppress all lower God Realm domains, rendering her treasured Sea God Trident completely ineffective against Caesar’s relentless assault.
To unleash magic skills was something the Naga Queen didn’t even dare to think about. With the Holy Emperor Sword unleashed, all magic and skills could be nullified. In the end, there were only two words to describe this weapon—overpowered!
Konstantin, observing the scene of Caesar overpowering the Queen from a distance, felt both admiration and a pang of loss. He had always thought that the Holy Emperor Sword was merely to compensate for the Great Emperor’s lack of time to practice, resulting in insufficient realm. Had he known of its true power, he would have dealt less with governmental affairs. With enough strength, who could contend with him when he wielded the Holy Sword?
With the thunderous clashing of weapons, the Naga Queen was forced back again and again.
Caesar unleashed a sword light, and the Naga Queen spurred the Sea God Trident to emit divine light, but the fierce onslaught of the Holy Emperor Sword tore through her defenses. The next second, another of the Queen’s arms was severed.
"You have lost, Naga Queen!" Caesar did not give her any chance and continued his pursuit.
"Seas Connect Heaven and Earth!" The Naga Queen shrieked, and suddenly the sea boiled over, and the sky mirrored a vast ocean. Endless waters washed down, burying Caesar’s body.
After a brief breath, streaks of Jin Guang tore through the prison of water, and Caesar once again closed in on the Naga Queen, stabbing fiercely towards her heart.
The Queen fought back desperately. With a crisp wail, the Sea God Trident snapped. The Naga Queen dodged with all her might, and the Holy Emperor Sword sliced through her waist, with divine blood once again spilled.
Caesar followed up with a punch to her chest, and the Naga Queen fell powerlessly into the sea.
"Your Majesty the Queen!" The sea race’s strongest warriors surged forward, trying to block Caesar’s pursuit.
"Out of my way!" Caesar bellowed, and with a sweep of the Holy Emperor Sword, none of the Third Transition warriors of the sea race could stand against him. More than half were turned to ashes in that strike, their Divine Souls utterly extinguished.
This was a war between races; Caesar could not possibly be merciful. It was kill or be killed. If he did not take this opportunity to slay the Naga Queen, the sea race would surely rise again.
"Die!" Caesar shouted. The Holy Emperor Sword split the air with a tremor, and a huge sword of colossal size fell slowly from the sky, pressing down fiercely towards the spot where the Naga Queen had fallen.
The Gold Sword plunged into the sea, and there was serene silence for three full seconds. After three seconds, the water was tinged with ripples of gold before a heaven-shaking explosion followed.
The violent shockwave flung Lando and the others far away. Merely being spectators, they suffered severe injuries that would take years to recover from.
"Huff, huff," Caesar gasped heavily, suspended in midair. That last strike had consumed half his strength. Logically, the Naga Queen should be either dead or maimed.
Indeed, Caesar’s estimate was not wrong. The Naga Queen was indeed crippled. As the sea slowly receded, the Naga Queen, in her effort to protect the child in her womb, had all six arms severed, her breath weak like a candle in the wind, ready to be extinguished at any moment.
"Aren’t you willing to come out after all?" The Naga Queen sobbed softly. "Even if it’s just for our child!"
Caesar steeled his heart, regardless of how pitiful she was now; he had no reason to spare her.
"If the sea race retreats on their own, I will grant them a way to live. You take care," he said, raising the Holy Emperor Sword and bringing down the final strike.
But at that moment, the receding tide seemed to be called upon by some force, rushing back in, raising towering waves that crashed upon Caesar.
He thought it was just the Naga Queen’s final retaliation, but as the wave approached, Caesar realized the power contained within it—it was heart-palpitating, terrifying.
Washed over by the wave, Caesar was heavily struck and flung into the ruins of Kinereth, the immense force obliterating half the city.
What happened now?!
As the tide of battle turned yet again, Konstantin felt his mind couldn’t keep up. Did the sea race still have god-level warriors?!
