Chapter 291: Chapter 46 Curtain Falls

"You’ve finally decided to show yourself," the Naga Queen said as pure divine power flowed through her, instantly healing her injuries. Even her eight severed arms were restored to their original state, and a vast amount of magic power poured into her body. With each breath, she was completely healed, and her strength now surpassed that of her previous self.

"This is..." Caesar struggled to stand with the imperial sword in hand, revealing a helpless wry smile.

The Sea God, the True God who bestowed the trident upon the sea creatures and the husband of the Naga Queen, was the only deity from the Era of the Gods who lived to the present day in the Heavenly Realm. He was also the Heavenly God people most easily forgot, for he had become the sea and vanished since the times of the gods.

"Lord Sea God, are you here to eradicate us on behalf of the Naga Queen?" Caesar raised his voice and called out.

But the only response he got was the furious roar of the ocean waves, indicating that the Sea God deemed it beneath him to converse with mortals. He ignored even the Naga Queen’s words, let alone Caesar’s.

As the queen was brought back to full health, hope returned to the sea creatures, who knelt in worship towards the depths of the ocean, praying for blessings.

The queen stood up, and the Sea God had also repaired her broken trident.

Pointing her trident at Caesar, she challenged, "Come, let us battle again!"

In an instant, the tense atmosphere descended once more.

Caesar took a deep breath, knowing that as long as the Sea God did not join the battle, there was still hope for the human race!

However, just as the Naga Queen prepared for her vengeful assault, the tide swiftly withdrew, dragging the entire sea creature army with it, retreating back into the depths of the ocean.

"What are you doing?!" the Naga Queen raged. "You don’t help me, fine, but do you also intend to prevent the sea creatures’ glory?"

The Sea God did not answer. A deep blue stream of water wrapped around the Naga Queen and pulled her back as well.

"Let go of me! Let go of me! I won’t go back! I won’t!"

To the onlookers, the Naga Queen appeared like a mischievous little girl being forcibly dragged away by an elder, a scene... well... it was peculiar, to say the least.

Regardless, the complete withdrawal of the sea creatures produced a victorious cheer over Jinrui City. The human race had once again proven their right to exist on this divine continent.

Caesar let out a sigh of relief and collapsed to the ground as the power boost from the Holy Emperor Sword faded, and a wave of exhaustion came over him.

"Senior Caesar, I... I am... Konstantin." Konstantin hurried to him, bowed respectfully—a bow for the human race and a bow for fulfilling his own dreams. Meeting one’s idol felt wonderful!

"Mm, I know you. You did well," Caesar said indifferently, patting Konstantin on the shoulder with a few offhand remarks.

"Senior, may I ask how our empire should proceed now?" Konstantin sought Caesar’s advice.

After pondering for a moment, Caesar replied, "Send someone to scout the areas the seas have receded to. Establish a new defensive line along the coast. The Sea God, although benevolent and not striking against us, is ultimately a deity of the sea creatures. He likely won’t return all the conquered lands to us. Getting back even a portion would be quite fortunate."

"Does that mean we won’t recover the lost territories of the empire?" Konstantin felt somewhat reluctant.

Caesar chuckled, "Don’t rush. The sea creatures are currently strong, and the empire has suffered terrible losses in the surprise attack. First, stabilize our strength. In time, we will plan our next moves. They have also provoked the Snow Realm, and we could possibly join forces with the Snow Realm Emperor in the future."

"Yes," Konstantin nodded, and then his gaze fell upon the Holy Emperor Sword, "Senior... may I ask... could you return... the Imperial Sword?"

Caesar looked down at the sword in his hand, silent for a long time.

"Let me keep it for now. The sea creatures may have retreated, but the Naga Queen clearly intends to resume hostilities. She’s aware of the sword’s might; when she returns, she’ll surely target the one who wields it first. If I give it to you now, the empire would lose its greatest leverage."

Konstantin cast his gaze downward; as an emperor, he knew Caesar spoke sensibly, but he always felt that his idol had impure thoughts, possibly covetous of treasures, "Just as my predecessor has said."

Seeing Konstantin’s agreement, Caesar nodded in satisfaction, "Very good indeed."

Rising to his feet and dusting the mud from his clothing, Caesar added, "The great war has just ended, and there is much government business needing attention, I won’t disturb you any further." With that, he leapt away.

Planting the seed of greed in Caesar’s heart was the goal of ascending to the God Realm; if he could not overcome the evil thoughts within, perhaps in the future, he would commit unforgivable mistakes...

After the great war ended, Konstantin hurriedly recalled the civilians from the unyielding throne, as they were the main force in rebuilding the city. Furthermore, he did not dismiss the various forces that had come to the empire’s aid; now was the time to employ people. The Sea Tribe had just been taken away by the Sea God, so they likely wouldn’t launch a second invasion soon. Thus, the current greatest threat came from the west—the Beastman Empire, which had been lying in wait, watching the battle from the sidelines. With the empire in decline, it was an opportune moment for them to wage war. Konstantin couldn’t give the enemy any chances to exploit, so he gathered forces near the southern sands to maintain a strict defense, guarding against any surprise attacks from the Beastman Empire.

As Caesar had said, the territory returned by the Sea God was not much, just one-third of the southern region. Konstantin was dissatisfied but had no choice but to accept; having some was better than none.

Aside from post-disaster reconstruction, there was another very important matter—organizing military forces to punish those realms that had rebelled under their banner, as well as those realms that had hesitated and not sent troops. They must be sternly punished. Otherwise, when the empire faced another disaster in the future, they would make the same moves again. Eradicating these realms and centralizing power was the right solution.

"Father," the Golden Lion pushed open the door to Tai’e’s study and said solemnly, "There’s news."

Tai’e set down the document he was reviewing and looked up, asking, "Is the Sacred Empire still standing?"

"It is," replied the Golden Lion. "This ultimate battle between the Human Race and the Sea Tribe was full of twists and turns, beyond the ordinary."

"Oh?" Tai’e’s interest was piqued. "Tell me more."

"The scout reports that the Sea Tribe initially pushed deep into our territory, forming elite squads of peak warriors who made their way to confront Konstantin. They thought they were sure to win, but Konstantin deployed the Holy Emperor Sword and repelled the invading foes."

"The Holy Emperor Sword?" Tai’e nodded. "Indeed, the power of that sword is truly astonishing."

"Continue listening," the Golden Lion, slightly annoyed by the interruption, resumed, "Out of nowhere, the Naga Queen descended, intending to fight Konstantin to the death. But at that moment, the Hell Cult appeared, summoning the Demon Lord Archimonde."

"Initially, Archimonde was reluctant to assist humans, but he was provoked by the Naga Queen’s taunts. Then, shielded by the Holy Emperor Sword, he crossed over from another realm. But as soon as he opened his domain, Konstantin sent him right back." The Golden Lion couldn’t help but laugh again at this point—it was simply too amusing.

"Ah?" Even Tai’e was taken aback, "A free hitman, why send him away?"

"Because Archimonde’s domain could absorb life force. If he weren’t sent away, likely, no one would have survived around the Naga Queen and Archimonde," the Golden Lion explained further, "After Archimonde departed, everyone thought the Human Race was doomed. But who would have expected an ancient human emperor from three thousand years ago, called Caesar, to suddenly join the fray?"

"Caesar?!" Tai’e was stunned, and then quickly asked, "Are you sure it’s him?"

"Yes, Father," the Golden Lion replied with a hint of surprise, "Is there something special about this Caesar?"

"Caesar was the most powerful emperor in the history of the human empire. Under his rule, my Beastman Empire nearly faced extinction, the Snowy Region steered clear of his wrath, daring not to gaze upon the northern border. Back in the day, almost eighty percent of the realms underneath the Star Sea fell into his pocket; the might of the Sacred Empire was unparalleled." Tai’e’s voice grew heavy, "I do not know why he’s still alive, but since he is, three thousand years, a full three thousand years have passed, and his strength must be unimaginably vast."

"Yes," the Golden Lion nodded, "Reliable information indicates Caesar, wielding the Holy Emperor Sword, successfully ascended to the God Realm. Had the Sea God not intervened, the Naga Queen would be dead by now."

"The Sea God?!" Tai’e was shocked again, the surprise exceeding any he had felt in his lifetime.

"The Sea God... the Sea God..." Tai’e’s fingers tapped lightly on the desk surface. After a while, he asked the Golden Lion, "What happened after?"

"Afterwards, the Sea God took the Sea Tribe army and retreated, giving the Human Race a chance to breathe." The Golden Lion went on to ask, "Should we take this opportunity—"

Tai’e shook his head, interrupting the Golden Lion’s words, "No need. The Sea Tribe will seek vengeance; we should not rashly get involved now. Once the Sacred Empire falls, it will be us facing the Sea Tribe, which is not a good thing. Since the Sea God was willing to intervene once, no one can ensure he won’t do it again. We must be more cautious in dealing with the Sea Tribe."

Well then, since Tai’e was not willing to send troops, the Golden Lion shrugged; he thought destroying the Human Race would ultimately bring more merits than faults. The Beastman Empire would eventually have to face the Sea Tribe regardless, what difference did it make if sooner or later?
