Chapter 1628: Chapter 1628: Legion Commander
Li Yao shook his head disdainfully. Squid was completely overestimating his abilities, utterly unaware of the gap between them.
Even if I didn’t have Starfire or this General position, I’d still have plenty of ways to wipe out his guild on my own.
What’s more, I’m not alone right now. My guild is filled with top-tier players; there’s no reason to take the Inkfish Guild seriously.
On top of that, I’m in control of the Withered Sun Legion now. The weight of this position—other than myself—probably even the people in Starfire can’t fully grasp it. It’s not just a matter of being a General.
Military rank? Just keep participating in faction wars, and you’ll eventually get it.
But to become a commander of a legion like the Withered Sun Legion? That’s likely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Besides, this legion holds a unique position among the High Elves. In terms of real power, I’m already one of the top figures among the High Elves, ranking in the top five.
"So, how should we handle this? Letting them constantly create trouble for us won’t be good either," Qin Feng Yi asked, clearly worried.
"You’re overestimating them. You guys don’t need to do anything at all. Right now, Starfire should just seize this opportunity to develop further through cooperation with the Withered Sun Legion. As for the Inkfish Guild, do we even need to make a move?" Li Yao said dismissively.
Deputy Commander Morning Wind also chuckled and said, "Miss Qin Feng Yi, rest assured. No matter what kind of organization this Squid has, it’s ultimately made up of rookies. Even if the Light Faction despises us, they would never collaborate with the Scourge Legion. Their actions aren’t worth considering. They’re rookies, and we have plenty of rookies on our side too."
Qin Feng Yi’s furrowed brows relaxed as she gradually grasped Morning Wind’s meaning.
Morning Wind bowed slightly. "Since they dare go against the Commander, they’re declaring war against the Withered Sun Legion. Sir, please allow us to increase the military reward bounty on their rookies, ensuring they have no way to return alive."
Li Yao nodded. "Just a minor issue, don’t waste too many resources. Treating them as a threat is giving them too much credit."
"Understood." Morning Wind bowed slightly and promptly went off to the Strategy Department—the mission issuance center.
"Do you understand now? Against such minor trash, we don’t even need to lift a finger. Squid... what a joke."
Li Yao shook his head with an amused smile. Trying to play games with me? Do they even qualify?
Qin Feng Yi nodded, returned to her guild, and shared what had happened. The core members of the guild were elated. Who wouldn’t feel pumped under the leadership of such a bold guild leader?
"Hell yeah! That idiot Squid dared to mess with the boss. He’s probably going to die without even knowing how it happened," Mu Zi exclaimed with excitement.
"Hehe, that’s why the Guild Leader is so badass!"
"Poor fool. Vice President, you can rest easy this time, right?"
"Alright, we’ve got the best conditions now and can take on the best missions. Check the Tier-One Mission list and sign up for whatever suits you to join Squad One."
Tong Tong and Demon Princess led the vanguard troops and part of the members into battle, while Sister Li took another group along with the main forces. This way, neither side would be delayed.
The people of the Withered Sun Legion all knew about their ties to Li Yao. Although they weren’t in the same legion, following the Legion Commander meant they naturally got access to the best missions and highest rewards.
And truthfully, Starfire had contributed a lot as well, providing so many elite melee Boarmen as meat shield frontlines. Of course, favors were returned accordingly.
Plus, Starfire never disappointed. They executed their missions flawlessly, leaving no room for anyone to criticize. Even players looking to nitpick had no choice but to relent.
The Deputy Commander arrived at the Strategy Department with the Legion Commander’s orders. The Strategy Department immediately raised the bounty on the opposing players. The worse the losses they inflicted, the higher the military rewards.
That was a game-changer. Originally, everyone considered the other side just another group of players. Even though the other side was clearly trying to cause trouble for Li Yao, most would prefer to go easy during battles, following the principle of showing mercy where possible.
But now? With so many rewards on the line, how could anyone resist?
"Sorry, but I’m stepping in. With a bounty that high, who’d say no?" said a top-tier PvP expert who had been unwilling to engage earlier.
"Can’t help it. With rewards like that, it’s impossible to hold back. Let’s crush them completely," someone chimed in.
"People die for wealth, birds die for food. We don’t even know these players personally. If they’re willing to work with monsters, why should we show any courtesy?"
"We’re the righteous ones taking them down."
Even those who had avoided taking missions to fight the opposing players could no longer hold back.
Earlier, some players had changed their names and races to infiltrate and stall Li Yao’s forces. They defended a section of the wall, preventing the vanguard forces from making any progress.
But in the next wave of battles, the difference was immediately apparent. The storming troops were now hyper-elite, and this time they truly fought with lethal determination.
Previously, when their forces collapsed, the Withered Sun Legion’s players would let them retreat and regroup. It was as if both sides had rehearsed the situation, resulting in minimal losses while everyone earned some military merits—why not?
But now, the Withered Sun Legion’s players fought like madmen. Gone was the earlier slackness. Once their opponents’ troops began to crumble, they swept through like an autumn gale sweeping away fallen leaves, relentless and unforgiving.
In this latest clash, the opposing forces suffered a decisive defeat. In less than half an hour, they were pushed back into the Sun Holy Temple’s interior.
Even if Squid had money, how many people could he hire? Compared to the Withered Sun Legion, which could host events in the name of their faction, they were simply not on the same level.
Roar!
A massive Abomination burst out from the crumbling bone walls built by the Undead, rampaging through the player armies with reckless slaughter.
Although Abominations are a type of Stitch Monster, they’re more refined alchemical creations.
Stitch Monsters, however, are simply corpses sewn together, resulting in unpredictable mutations.
If Abominations are wild and dangerous but still controllable, Stitch Monsters are entirely uncontrollable. They’re impossible to organize into armies. Just preventing them from turning on the Undead is already a success.
Most of these mutations end up as failures, but a rare few result in terrifying transformations, turning into real killing machines.
This particular Stitch Monster had the head of a dragon from the Neutral Continent, with a body stitched together from who knows how many Warcraft carcasses.
It was enormous, berserk in battle, and utterly unstoppable. Most skilled players couldn’t handle it; melee fighters were no match for its strength, and ranged spells had little effect. It wreaked havoc, leaving players crying for backup from the Withered Sun Legion.
"A mutated racial-tier commander. Promote it by one tier and issue a mid-level racial bounty," Li Yao commanded.
This kind of creature didn’t warrant Li Yao’s personal intervention. As the supreme leader, he couldn’t just solve every problem himself. Otherwise, what would his subordinates do? His job was to command the legion and fight against the strongest enemies. If even their strongest foes didn’t meet his standards, there was no reason for him to act—it would be beneath him.
The earlier battle had already earned him initial loyalty from his troops. Killing minor nuisances like these wouldn’t bring him any extra glory.
By raising the bounty, he naturally attracted expert players eager to take down the boss for loot and merit. There was no shortage of people hungry for military rewards...
