Chapter 1624: Battle
Chapter 1624: Chapter 1624: Battle
Intelligent Undead are not rare, which is the origin of the Undead Clan.
However, these Undead are essentially dominated by their souls from before death. Although Abominations are Undead creatures, they are more accurately products of Undead alchemy—one of the most successful alchemical creations of the Undead.
While Abominations do possess intelligence, it is mostly driven by the will to battle and kill. An Abomination as clever as this one is almost unique, an anomaly.
Seeing an Abomination as a hero is not uncommon, but to see one acting as the main commander is truly a first, which intrigued Li Yao greatly.
Moreover, this creature is not only formidable in strength but also cunning and treacherous. When paired with the mutated monsters behind it, the synergy is unstoppable; it’s no surprise no one has been able to resist them thus far.
Especially since Li Yao has elevated his Frenzy level to nine—a limit he can currently achieve—this requires even greater caution. Of course, killing the enemy promises significant rewards.
Many players familiar with Li Yao began to discuss excitedly when they noticed his wings had changed yet again.
But when they saw him directly flying toward the Abomination, many shook their heads in disappointment, commenting that the earlier challengers had all perished like this.
"Let’s see how you handle this arrow!"
Li Yao bent his bow in midair, forming a crescent moon, and shot an arrow that had been charged to maximum power.
The arrow streaked through the air like a meteor, coated in two layers of flames trailing an incandescent tail.
The innermost layer, the arrow shaft’s surface, shimmered with a faint blue flame—this was Starfire. The outer layer was a phantasmal crimson flame, resembling fireflies both illusory and surreal—the enhanced Flame of Life.
"Good timing!"
The Abomination stomped the ground fiercely, sending chains surging outward from its grasp.
The mutated monster’s tentacles smashed the ground violently, causing chunks of rock to rise and scatter, colliding with the incoming arrow.
Yet the rocks were too fragile; when they made contact with the arrow shaft, they shattered instantly.
Although it seemed to take time, the event unfolded in mere moments, with rocks pelting the scene in rapid succession.
As the arrow reached close to the Abomination, three tentacles formed on the ground, twisting and condensing into a structure resembling a rotary drill.
The tentacles struck the arrow shaft as swiftly as lightning.
Bang...
The sturdy tentacles capable of penetrating solid barriers were violently destroyed, shattering into countless fragments.
However, the arrow shaft finally wavered under the combined assault of stones and tentacles, grazing past the Abomination’s ear as it streaked by.
Aaaaahhhhh...
A chorus of screams erupted in the distant background as the unlucky Abominations who failed to dodge were overtaken by the arrow’s path.
The arrow had pierced through over thirty Abominations before coming to a halt, leaving them with transparent gaping holes in their bodies. An eerie dual-layer flame burned on their torsos—impossible to extinguish—and within moments, reducing them to ashes.
Simultaneously, the mutated monster behind the Abomination let loose earsplitting shrieks. Only then did the crowd notice that three truncated tentacles had caught fire with the same two sets of flames, which rapidly spread.
The mutated monster decisively severed the flaming tentacles, spraying large amounts of green fluid in the process. Its health bar quickly dropped by one-third.
Everyone gasped audibly. This was a race-level leader, and yet merely touching Li Yao’s arrow shaft had resulted in losing a third of its health—it was terrifying.
It’s no wonder those elite, tough-skinned Abominations had been so vulnerable.
But the battle raged on. At this moment, the Abomination’s chains slithered toward Li Yao like a venomous serpent.
Li Yao, however, did not attempt to evade. Instead, he put away his bow and arrow, unfurling his metal wings to enclose himself completely.
Clang...
The chains latched onto the wings’ feathers and retracted abruptly, pulling the wing-shielded Li Yao rapidly toward the Abomination. Meanwhile, the Abomination’s blade began emanating an eerie glow, clearly indicating it was being charged with power.
"It’s over. Prairie Fire just sealed his own fate," one player sighed.
"What kind of ’over’? The Hunter King isn’t someone you can take down that easily," another retorted indignantly.
"Are you an idiot? Yes, Prairie Fire is strong—that’s unquestionable—but his strength lies in his skill. He’s using a ranged weapon class but allowed himself to be restrained and pulled into close quarters by a faction-level boss? That’s instant death, no doubt."
"True," agreed another. "Prairie Fire’s skill is indisputable, but going up against such an intimidating combo in close combat? Two fists can’t overcome four hands. This time, he’s in deep trouble."
"Honestly, he’s just overconfident. Believes he’s invincible. If he had stuck to his arrows, he might have been able to suppress the monster. But now he insists on engaging in close quarters? He’s courting death."
"Still, why do I feel like Prairie Fire could dodge this? It’s almost like he allowed himself to get pulled on purpose," one hesitant voice mused.
"You’ve got to be kidding. Who would be that foolish?"
The players debated heatedly—some feeling regretful, but more reveling in schadenfreude.
So Prairie Fire thinks he’s invincible? So Prairie Fire thinks he’s untouchable, treating us like toys?
He’s the Commander? Let’s see how badly he embarrasses himself in front of his troops this time. What face will he have left to continue leading his legion? He’s bound to face mutiny.
Some experts even began fantasizing about Prairie Fire losing his position as Commander, wondering if they might have a shot at taking his place.
Only Li Yao’s elite guards remained unflinchingly composed. Among the Withered Sun Legion, these guards had the most authority to speak. Although their time serving under Li Yao wasn’t long, his recent performance during the Battle of Uldaman had instilled absolute loyalty.
Could anyone who dared face a world-level leader, work alongside faction-level grandmasters, and hold their ground against the transcendent Demon Marshal still command the flow of the fight?
Not to mention his direct confrontation with the terrifying Molten Mountain Dragon, securing the victory in one decisive blow. If such a person doesn’t qualify as Commander, then surely no one does.
"You must be the Commander... but you’re doomed either way..."
The Abomination was ecstatic about his plan’s apparent success, smiling wickedly as he saw Li Yao being dragged closer, seconds away from being annihilated. Yet his demeanor shifted abruptly upon spotting a sudden burst of more than ten feathers glowing with phantasmal crimson flames erupting from Li Yao’s wings.
Though he didn’t fathom the feathers’ capabilities, he knew all too well the terrifying nature of those flames.
The Abomination swung his charged blade desperately in response.
With lines of blade light streaking through the air, followed by sharp, clinking collisions...
Roar!
The Abomination’s furious growl echoed as he realized, to his shock, that the feathers carried such immense force it was pushing him backward step by step.
"You’re already dead."
Time Deceleration!
Whirlwind Charge!
In the instant Time Deceleration activated, everything around slowed to an agonizing crawl—even the chains entangling Li Yao became motionless.
Li Yao unleashed Whirlwind Charge. His body began spinning frenziedly, transforming within the shielded wings into a rapidly revolving drill.
Not only that, but the metallic feathers on his wings sharpened into razor blades.
As Li Yao spun, the friction against the air generated an ear-splitting shriek.
The chains slackened midair due to Time Deceleration, yet before they dropped to the ground, Li Yao’s feathers sliced them into countless shards of metal.
And Li Yao launched forward...
