Chapter 1570: Chapter 1570: Backhand
The airborne demon hadn’t even reacted properly; just moments ago, they were teaming up with Edward to deal with Li Yao.
Edward had used his skills to force Li Yao into the sky, banking on the fact that current players were unskilled at aerial combat, hoping to create an opening for Edward to land a decisive blow.
Even if it didn’t kill Li Yao, it could heavily wound him, at least destroying a portion of the tentacles of the Dark Touch, resulting in valuable loot.
Killing Li Yao was never their true goal; their ultimate objective had always been the loot.
Once they acquired the loot, they planned to retreat, unwilling to continue tangling with the monstrous Li Yao. The combat ability Li Yao had displayed earlier was simply too overpowered. If not for the allure of the loot, they wouldn’t have dared to provoke Li Yao in his current condition.
It was just too dangerous—a single mistake could lead to instant death.
However, while this strategy was effective for players currently unskilled at aerial combat, it was completely unsuitable against Li Yao. His combat experience was too extensive, having spent his previous life constantly either hunting others or being hunted. His battle expertise was impeccable.
One could even say that Li Yao’s skills in his past life were on par with those legendary players who managed to achieve Divine Enthronement; the only thing he lacked was luck.
Not to mention, Li Yao now had a propeller. Even without it, his skill "Lotus Step" enabled him to fight in midair with unparalleled ease.
The moment Li Yao acquired a new piece of equipment, his mind would instantly start recalculating combat strategies and methods, with no hesitation or awkwardness whatsoever.
With sufficient attributes, Li Yao could even stand against the Dragon King himself, let alone a minor skirmish like this.
Such petty tricks were ineffective against him. The two players teaming up to force Li Yao into the air, believing themselves successful, had actually relaxed their guard. Meanwhile, Li Yao had already identified a golden opportunity to strike back.
Swoosh...
Li Yao’s current attributes, combined with the sheer quantity of souls absorbed by the sickle today, had reached terrifying extremes. When he swung the sickle, it carried an incredibly sharp and chilling Soul Scream.
The airborne demon’s reaction was remarkably swift. Realizing he couldn’t dodge Li Yao’s sickle, his fist weapon emitted a blinding light. The claws, already razor-sharp to begin with, suddenly extended further. He crossed them to shield his head.
But it was all in vain. His fist weapon might be decent, but compared to the Reaper’s Scythe, its sharpness was vastly inferior. Even though this Reaper’s Scythe was merely a fragment of the true scythe.
With a flash of its blade, the crowd saw the airborne demon’s body pierced by the dark glimmer of the sickle’s blade, his entire figure split cleanly into two halves.
Boom...
"I am immortal." The airborne demon’s bisected body transformed into a swarm of bats. However, the shrilling Soul Scream emitted by the Reaper’s Scythe, coupled with its devastating blade energy, was far too overwhelming.
One by one, the bats exploded into dark blood mist with loud bangs. More than half of the swarm was shattered by the soul scream.
"Explode! Scatter!"
Edward couldn’t just stand by and watch the airborne demon be obliterated. If he ended up being the only one left, her only choice would be to flee.
The massive magic wand in Edward’s hand flared with a fiery orange glow, abruptly releasing an explosion. A spider-shaped red shockwave spread outward, resembling a magic shield.
Li Yao’s propeller fired streams of flames, propelling him backward.
From the perspective of ordinary players, it looked as if Edward’s skill had forced Li Yao back. However, those with keen insight noticed that the shockwave had never actually made contact with Li Yao’s body—it passed just beneath him.
Edward’s eyes flashed with a hint of regret. Her skill was far from ordinary; although it seemed to lack direct damage, anyone hit by it would be marked by Hellfire flames.
These flames, though not highly damaging, clung stubbornly like a parasitic worm—extremely difficult to rid oneself of.
Once marked by the flames, Edward could follow up with numerous spells. Many of these spells would transform into instant-cast directed attacks, or even spontaneously trigger explosive flame-based spells.
Yet Li Yao reacted too quickly. The moment Edward began chanting, he was already retreating without hesitation. Her spell might have been instantaneous and fast, but...
If Li Yao had hesitated even a fraction of a second over whether to continue targeting the airborne demon, he would have undoubtedly been hit. Things would be much easier for the pair thereafter.
But Li Yao didn’t hesitate for a moment.
"Lend me your blood." The airborne demon finally reformed his humanoid shape, though he now appeared excessively frail and somewhat translucent. His blood gauge had dropped below half. Without his bizarre evasion technique, the previous attack would have outright killed him. Even so, he almost failed to revert to his humanoid state.
Edward, resigned, tossed out a bottle of precious Warcraft blood, which the airborne demon quickly guzzled down.
Two bottles of Warcraft blood—one internal, one external—rapidly restored the airborne demon’s health.
"If it’s close combat, you could still give me some trouble. But you forced me to widen the gap—don’t blame me for what’s about to happen."
Li Yao hadn’t been idle during his retreat. His Reaper’s Scythe had already been stowed away, replaced with a now fully assembled Green Dragon Roar.
Dragon Strike Cannon!
As the airborne demon reformed his body, Li Yao’s Dragon Strike Cannon finished charging.
A dazzling beam of light instantly blasted against the airborne demon’s figure. Despite drinking two bottles of Warcraft blood and recovering over half his health...
The pair had barely begun their counterattack when Li Yao’s attack connected.
Every motion Li Yao made was impossibly smooth, as if meticulously rehearsed.
The two follow-up reversals were executed so seamlessly that it left an impression on onlookers as though everything had been under his absolute control from the start.
Boom...
"Blood Evasion!"
The airborne demon’s eyes nearly popped out of his skull. What kind of monster was this guy? Not only was he dodging powerful attacks from others, but he was already preparing his next move simultaneously.
Despite his pride, the airborne demon knew full well that he was out of his league. Compared to Li Yao, there was still a massive gap in skill.
Two elite players ambushing one opponent, only to have the tides of battle reversed in an instant. The momentum now belonged fully to Li Yao. This level of skill was something the airborne demon had never faced before. Usually, it was him overpowering his foes with superior technique; now, he was being thoroughly outclassed. It was infuriating.
But rage wouldn’t help now. Escape was the top priority—he was fully aware of how deadly Li Yao’s attacks were at this moment.
Edward’s face burned with embarrassment, though her armored exterior concealed her expression. Deep down, however, she couldn’t hide her shock.
The airborne demon’s body dissolved into a cloud of blood once more, but the Dragon Strike Cannon had already detonated. Within the furious explosion, the blood mist dissolved like snow under the scorching sun.
Even Edward’s towering figure swiftly retreated from the blast zone. The Dragon Strike Cannon’s explosion was far too devastating, resembling a miniature black hole that consumed everything in its radius...
