Chapter 1569: Chapter 1569: The Battle of the Summit
Li Yao’s phantoms disappeared one by one until only one Li Yao stood by the loot: "I’ll ask one more time—does anyone still want to take my loot?"
From afar, people looked on, stunned by the domineering words of Li Yao. They weren’t necessarily afraid, but his statement was so bold and brash that it left them wondering—do they dare?
However, seeing the circle of corpses surrounding the area and the battered Paladins lying on the ground with broken bones, many recognized reality. Despite being surrounded by so many people, Li Yao had severely injured them in mere seconds, proving his overwhelming strength.
Although Li Yao was a player, he was the one who had killed the Faceless One. His combat strength was now unequivocally at the level of a boss over ten levels higher than theirs—someone who could overwhelm a boss like the Faceless One, and who was clearly more ruthless and cunning.
Li Yao showed them fully the might of a player who possessed the capabilities of a supreme boss.
"Prairie Fire, you’re way too overbearing. Sure, we admit that killing the Faceless One was mostly your achievement, but everyone sacrificed so many brothers here. How can all the loot belong solely to you?"
"Exactly. No matter how strong you are, it’s not fair. The boss was killed by everyone, so why is all the loot yours?"
"Well said! Having power doesn’t mean you should act so shamelessly."
Li Yao simply smiled at their complaints, saying nothing as they continued arguing. Gradually, their voices dwindled as they realized they might not get any share of the loot after all.
"I think you’ve misunderstood something," Li Yao said as he slowly began placing the loot piece by piece into his backpack. "I said it’s my loot not because I killed the boss, but because I was the one who came out victorious in the scramble for the loot. Didn’t we just settle things through combat and strategy? Now, I’m the only one left standing here—what’s wrong with me declaring the loot as mine?"
"Well said! In that case, I won’t be greedy—I’ll just take one piece," a melodious female voice floated through the crowd.
"And I’ll be reasonable too—just one item. The Hunter King already grabbed several; he should settle for those." Then, as only two pieces of loot remained on the ground, chaos erupted once again.
Li Yao’s body was suddenly yanked backward by a powerful force. The crowd faintly saw a spiderweb enveloping Li Yao and dragging him away.
At the same time, a swarm of blood-red bats descended from the sky. When the bats merged into a form, they transformed into a figure cloaked in shadows—a figure whose eyes gleamed like lightning. Its hands were no ordinary hands but fluffy, razor-sharp claws resembling scimitars, rushing toward the two remaining pieces of loot.
The other dissatisfied experts also unleashed their abilities, scrambling to join the battle and seize the remaining loot.
While it might seem like a long sequence, the entire process—from their words to taking action—happened in the span of mere moments, as swift as a lightning strike.
Clang, clang...
The sharp claws gouged two deep marks into the ground, but the two remaining pieces of equipment were pulled away alongside Li Yao by a powerful force.
Only then did the crowd realize it was Li Yao’s Dark Touch that had grabbed the items. Many again felt a ghostly chill—it was another trap set by Li Yao.
Thinking back, it made sense. Li Yao had numerous opportunities to gather the loot earlier, yet he deliberately moved at a snail’s pace, clearly baiting others into attacking.
"Edward, I never thought you’d team up with a player from another planet to target me," Li Yao sneered as his scythe spun fiercely in his hand, slicing through the web that enveloped him into fragments.
With a flash of movement, Li Yao disappeared from sight. A massive spider leg swiped past accompanied by a fiery-orange fireball, roaring through the air.
The spider’s limbs, sharp as arrows, tore across the ground, while the fireball, enormous like a millstone, blasted a crater into the earth.
This was clearly a double-kill maneuver: even with Li Yao’s high stats, his profession was a fragile one. If he took the hit head-on, he’d either suffer grave injuries or risk having bones cracked.
The spectators erupted in astonishment—they hadn’t expected Edward to transform into such a terrifying, massive spider.
At this moment, Edward had transformed into a giant spider covered in eerie, dark-purple symbols that glimmered with ominous light. Despite its immense size, the spider didn’t appear bloated—in fact, it exuded an unsettling, sinister beauty.
Its spider legs were like violet long spears; each step drove deep gouges into the ground below.
Even stranger was how the spider’s head melded with a humanoid body, its original features indiscernible. The humanoid figure’s well-shaped body was encased in a keratin-like layer resembling a specialized form of metal armor. Its entire face was shrouded in a hard shell, leaving only several glowing green compound eyes visible—an eerie sight.
The humanoid body carried a massive magical wand that burned with fiery orange flames, and Edward was already chanting spells at high speed.
Edward had revealed a spider shape before, but it had only been a shadowy semblance—not a full transformation like this. Clearly, this was Edward’s hidden trump card.
"Collaboration? Hardly. Hand over the necklace in your possession, and I’ll quit the fight immediately. You can kill him afterward if you want—I won’t care," Edward said, his voice hoarse yet strangely soothing and soft to listen to, filling spirits with a gentle calm.
"You really think you can dictate my life and death? Laughable!" a cloaked figure enveloped in mist sneered coldly, its body rippling as a blood-red shockwave began spreading outward. "Let me show you the might of the Flying Devil Clan—Blood Scattering!"
Li Yao ignored the alien player entirely. His body shot skyward, the blood-red shockwave spreading from his feet outward. "Even with your obstruction, killing him is nothing to me!"
"Oh? You’re strong, I won’t deny. Alone, I might not be your match; but together with another expert? Now that’s a different story," Edward declared, equally unfazed by the shockwave. "The power of the Rule of Blood, hmm? What a pity—I was born to counter such things."
As the shockwave reached Edward, his spider body erupted with orange flames, instantly vaporizing the blood-red energy.
Edward slammed his wand against the ground, and a column of fire suddenly burst forth beneath Li Yao without warning—scorching and ferocious as though mimicking a volcanic eruption.
Li Yao twisted his body midair, his feet flashing with lotus-like patterns as the fire column shot past him, scorching his hair into wild motion.
At the same moment, the huge sickle in Li Yao’s hand expanded into a massive, sweeping scythe over a hundred yards long, slashing downward with a devastating blow toward the Flying Devil...
