Chapter 1499: Chapter 1499 Danger
Li Yao pulled his hood down, stood up from the spider tank, and transformed into a gnome; his stature was naturally short, but atop the spider tank, he was taller than everyone else,
Looking down at Alice, he said, "Don’t assume just because you share a name with a certain chief god that you are one. Even if you were a chief god, you would have no right to question the will of a great master. In the era when our great master reigned supreme, those laughable gods didn’t even know which corner to hide in and shiver."
"Don’t confuse things, I just want to know why the master would send someone as weak as you. Even if I harbored disloyalty, how would you be able to complete the master’s task?" Alice’s expression remained unchanged, but the resolve in her voice was unmistakable.
The others remained silent, not daring to speak. They could survive watching two Divine Envoys in confrontation, but if they were to speak out of turn, they probably wouldn’t know what hit them. However, one thing was certain; this Divine Envoy was indeed real.
Thus, they acted even more as if they were lost in a trance, as if they hadn’t heard the quarrel between the two Divine Envoys.
"Hmph, I am only temporarily weaker than you. With the master’s dark gift, I will soon surpass you," Li Yao said disdainfully. "But since you want to witness the great master’s dark gift, I shall indulge you. Don’t get cocky just because you’ve received a single touch of darkness from the master, for I have received two. And this is not something you could ever possess."
As he spoke, Li Yao summoned the hydra. As soon as it appeared, the color drained from Alice’s face.
"This, this is Lord Godzilla..." Alice said uncertainly.
"At least you have some discernment," Li Yao snorted coldly.
The Shadow Hydra also spoke ominously, "You actually know my name. But I don’t seem to recall seeing you before."
Alice spoke respectfully, "You may have forgotten, but I remember. A thousand years ago, your legendary battle with the Duke of Water Element turned the entire underwater world into chaos. How could I forget such unparalleled splendor? The water scars on your head are from that battle, are they not? That’s how I recognized you. But why have you fallen to this status?"
The Ice Hydra replied icily, "The great master has assigned me to protect him closely; he is very important. That’s all you need to know."
Li Yao gestured and recalled the hydra. He was very pleased with the hydra’s response, but it was better to say less to avoid any slip-ups; they had not communicated beforehand, and it was safer to put it away. A misstep at a crucial moment would be unfortunate.
Clearly, Alice was still immersed in shock; the battle from a thousand years ago lingered in her mind, and back then, she was just an insignificant character.
That legendary battle had left a deep impression on her, and yet the figure she had long admired and aspired to surpass had now become someone else’s bodyguard. Though not much was specified, this Divine Envoy was undoubtedly real.
What she did not know was that Li Yao had regressed the hydra using special means this year before capturing it.
In her memory, the hydra was formidable, one of the strongest forces under the ancient gods.
"You’re really lucky," Alice said reluctantly as she raised her hand. "Go ahead, but you’ll be leaving soon. You’ll see my ability to turn the world upside down, and you needn’t bother yourself."
"It’s certainly better if it takes no effort." Li Yao was indifferent as he followed the group into the hall.
At the uppermost positions in the hall, one seat was newly added. Li Yao unceremoniously sat down while the Spider Tank stood coldly behind him, watching everyone impassively.
"Even if I wanted to wash my hands of this matter, I still need to report the situation here to my master. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to report back." Li Yao was the first to speak.
"Priest, you speak." Alice obviously said to the man seated below her.
The refined man nodded, "The General’s operation of the fortress is a ruse, and so is the battle against the Green Dragon. In reality, he aims to breed the Rampaging Dragon Beasts. At present, a million Rampaging Dragon Beasts are about to be born, expected within the next couple of days. Having such an Invincible Legion is the result of the General’s strategic deception. Moreover, we have annihilated two of the Green Dragon’s new generation legions. That’s the accumulation and achievement of the Green Dragon over tens of thousands of years, and it will deal a heavy blow to the Green Dragon Legion. I believe the great Ancient God will be pleased with this outcome."
Li Yao raised an eyebrow: "Oh? So, those captives who transformed into human form are all Green Dragons?"
"Yes, they are all thanks to the curse researched by the General. That’s the key to our victory over the Green Dragon Legion. The General also mentioned that once we return, we will present this curse to the great Ancient God. When the time comes, it will catch the Green Dragon Legion off-guard and lead to their utter annihilation, along with the surrounding of the Green Dragon King." The Priest said, full of longing.
"Such formidable power, it seems General Alice is indeed a curse prodigy," Li Yao said with genuine surprise. "Can I also have the opportunity to witness such a wondrous curse?"
"There is no reason why not," Alice said with a smile, as a bottle of purple liquid appeared in her hand. The purple liquid, like a living thing, churned and roiled within the bottle, quite eerie. "I call this the Curse of Dreams. It’s useless against ordinary creatures, but for those with the Power of Dream like the Green Dragons, it can seal their bloodline. I haven’t tried it on the Dragon King, so I wouldn’t boast about its effectiveness, but a Green Dragon Princess cannot resist it."
"What a treasure indeed. Even if it can’t be used against the Dragon King, if it can weaken the warriors beneath the Dragon King, then even with just the Dragon King remaining, they cannot stop our great master from eroding the Dream," Li Yao said, his eyes gleaming with greed.
"This one I will give to you," Alice said, tossing the bottle to Li Yao, and continued, "That’s the general situation. Then there’s the production of Rampaging Dragon Beasts and the Curse Experimentation Laboratory. Do you want to take a look?"
"No need to go!" Suddenly the Leaf of Dreamland in Li Yao’s possession vibrated, and a stream of information flowed into his mind. Li Yao was startled at first, but he quickly caught on: "You’re willing to let me see such an important place. Aren’t you afraid I’ll steal your thunder?"
"You? You can’t take my credit. You’re too weak. But since you are here, I won’t cheat you. I am a firm believer in win-win situations. I see potential in your future, so if you stay out of trouble, you’ll naturally have a share in this tremendous achievement," Alice said.
"Really?" Li Yao pretended to be ecstatic.
"Of course, it’s true. Am I not taking you to the most crucial place? Are you coming or not?" Alice’s eyes were filled with sincerity.
Li Yao hadn’t expected that at this critical moment, the Dragon Clan’s inside agent would warn him not to go, but he couldn’t simply avoid it. It appeared that Alice also considered herself a Divine Envoy, obviously not taking him seriously.
Eliminating another Divine Envoy like himself might work out well for her; after all, given her achievements, the Ancient God probably wouldn’t punish her, and it would be even better if it were a ruse.
Following her would certainly be risky, but not going poses risks as well. Moreover, without seeing the actual place where the curse is produced, he wouldn’t know where to start...
