Chapter 1498: Chapter 1498: Adventure
With a patrol captain leading the way, as the city gates opened, a stone pathway rose from the Lava Lake, wide enough for several horse-drawn carriages to travel side by side.
Thanks to the captain’s explanation and description, everyone was extremely respectful towards Li Yao, especially when they heard the captain boasting about receiving the god’s blessing to level up, making them all look at Li Yao earnestly. However, Li Yao sat atop a spider tank the whole time, not lifting his head or sparing a glance at them.
Fueled by the captain’s description and their sensing of the aura, no one doubted or dared to doubt, so in the face of Li Yao’s indifference, no one dared to speak up.
As they entered the fortress, Li Yao slightly raised his head: "Hmm, why are there sounds of battle?"
The gate leader quickly replied, "It’s just some fools who used some method to sneak into the fortress and even summoned an army. But the Defense Officer was wise and brave, using them to train the new recruits. However, later another terrifying person arrived, destroying two training grounds, and those two groups started to go mad, somehow continuously summoning armies."
"The Defense Officer has been killed by that terrible person, and the general is furious, ordering the annihilation of those two groups. But the two groups are cunning and have joined forces, plus they can summon elite troops, causing us quite a headache. What’s more crucial is that the enemy who turned the fortress upside down has disappeared, as if evaporated into thin air, impossible to find."
Li Yao snorted in feigned dissatisfaction: "Alice is getting more and more useless, such a mess in the fortress—if it delays the master’s grand plans, she could die a thousand times and still not atone for her sin."
The few leading the way didn’t dare to respond. How could they comment? They dared not provoke a Divine Envoy, but neither could they provoke their own boss, so they pretended not to hear it.
Soon, Li Yao was brought into the center.
The defenses here were even more stringent, and the troops were the elite of the elite. The humanoid beings were well-equipped, entirely in standard blue gear, evidently having a complete armament system.
One should know that whether an intelligent being’s elite troops are actually elite depends not only on their rank but also on their equipment. The difference between green and blue gear is substantial.
It’s like the difference between ordinary silver elites and Warcraft Level silver elites, but the cost of producing standard blue gear is extremely high, and only a few factions can equip their main legions entirely with such quality armor.
Moreover, Li Yao could sense their formidable strength—it was clearly an army that had experienced a hundred battles.
With the patrol team and the gate officials leading the way, Li Yao encountered little obstruction.
Passing by the square, the gate official bragged, "Divine Envoy, please look, these are the Green Dragons who have opposed us for hundreds of years. Now, one of their chiefs has fallen into our hands, turning a vast number of Green Dragons into sheep waiting for the slaughter."
Li Yao nodded: "I’ve heard about this. I heard you even killed the Green Dragon princess, which surprised me, but it’s an outstanding feat. Rest assured, I will report this to the master. When the master learns that the daughter of the Green Dragon king who opposed him in the Dream world is dead, he will be overjoyed and will bestow even more power onto you."
"Thank you, Divine Envoy," the gate official said, overjoyed.
"What’s your name?" Li Yao asked casually.
"I am Mogul Beer, who dreams of tasting the barley beer from the lands above," the gate official said eagerly, a name that the great ancient god might remember was at stake here. After all, the difference between receiving power directly from an ancient god and getting a mere share was monumental.
The patrol captain also hurriedly said: "Divine Envoy, my name is Karl..."
The others also hurriedly blurted out their names, but Li Yao had no intention of remembering them; he simply nodded in response, yet that alone was enough to send them into ecstasy.
The group crossed the plaza, with the Green Dragons glaring angrily at them, but Li Yao’s expression remained indifferent, his unaffected demeanor as conspicuous as it was odd.
Li Yao approached a grand hall, where a line of people were already waiting.
They were the various leaders and key figures of the fortress, who, having heard of the Divine Envoy’s arrival, mostly wanted to bask in the reflected glory and had gathered around.
Among them, the most eye-catching were the two leading figures, a man and a woman.
The man was a handsome and charismatic human.
Clad in a Priest’s Robe, he exuded a sense of sanctity and refinement. He stood out like a crane amongst chickens here, seemingly out of place. Although he was in the front, he was half a step behind the leading woman, clearly indicating that the real mastermind was the woman. Yet, this man still stood ahead of everyone else, with everyone else following behind the two, obviously signifying that the man’s position was not low either.
The woman’s race was indiscernible; she seemed to be human, yet had the air of an elf.
To say she was eye-catching was no exaggeration; at least Li Yao couldn’t keep his eyes off this enchanting and bewitchingly beautiful woman.
She was dressed in a black gauze dress, almost translucent; dark energy swirled around the key areas, serving only to obscure the essentials. Yet, this did not hide her well-proportioned and mature figure, and if anything, this half-revealed state piqued even more interest.
In her gaze, there was none of the frenzy seen in others’ eyes when they looked at him, only an unruffled calm. As the others bowed, she slowly stepped forward and spoke indifferently, "Divine Envoy, I am the Divine Envoy. Why would our great lord send someone else? This is not right. So, tell me, who are you, pretending to be?"
Even in anger, she did not give off the slightest sense of ire, but rather, an allure all her own.
The others all stood stunned, their gaze shifting back and forth between the two.
Because Li Yao bore an uncanny resemblance to their general, whether in the dark energy swirling around him or the tentacles, almost to the point of being identical.
Li Yao himself was startled; he could sense the presence of dark energy, and clearly, this General Alice also possessed the touch of darkness. Overwhelmed with shock, Li Yao found the unexpected revelation too sudden to be true.
It had been a long while since he had sensed the touch of darkness, and he had no clue where to look for it - not now, at least. Yet unexpectedly, he had stumbled upon another.
"The master is very dissatisfied with your progress, and because you’ve been avoiding contact to escape responsibility for a long time, the master is quite displeased. Therefore, he sent me to spur you on or..."
Initially fuming, Alice’s expression shifted, a flash of realization crossing her face, and her suspicion toward Li Yao instantly vanished, because aside from a Divine Envoy, no one else knew how to contact the ancient gods, let alone where to do so.
It was naturally impossible to do so here, and she had been here for hundreds of years, constantly battling the Green Dragons, naturally she had no time to contact the ancient gods. Moreover, with her mission incomplete, trying to contact the ancient gods at a great cost would be suicidal.
"So it is, but what a pity, you are too late. My mission is about to be completed, and you will witness it with your own eyes. However, you still need to prove that you have received more blessings from the master than I have. Otherwise, what authority do you have to apprehend me? You are merely a junior Racial Chief; you are far from my level."...
