Chapter 1497: Impersonation

Chapter 1497: Chapter 1497: Impersonation

Take the Hunter profession, for example, they carry a variety of weapons, but the ones that receive bonuses are a set for ranged combat and one for melee.

There’s no clear standard for carrying weapons, it’s pretty free-form but the impact on agility and such needs to be figured out on one’s own.

For instance, Li Yao can hang two Single-handed Sickles on his waist, transform two hand cannons into arm guards, and carry a Star Bow on his back with no issues.

However, he can only select two of these to enjoy attribute bonuses.

Moreover, if one doesn’t have sufficient strength, carrying the hand cannons all the time will affect agility, with the impact varying depending on the person’s strength.

If one only meets the bare minimum requirements to use the hand cannons, then their speed is bound to be exceedingly slow while carrying them.

Of course, some heavy-duty professions aren’t concerned with agility since they’re intrinsically slow.

Such as the Dragon Warrior, Dragon Knight, and Dragon Cannoneer professions, all of which are cumbersome.

Covered in super heavy armor that’s far heavier than plate mail, wielding a giant shield in one hand and weapons like a Warhammer, dragon lance, or blunderbuss in the other.

Their speed is, needless to say, incredibly slow, which makes these professions unsuitable for many situations.

What they seek is not agility but the utmost in defensive capabilities and counter-attack methods.

Of course, even with Li Yao’s current strength, donning such gear would still impact his agility, illustrating the nature of these professions. However, these professions are very much in demand, and nearly every tank class has such a tortoise shell-like armor set, although they generally don’t use it except in specific situations.

Li Yao reluctantly put away his hand cannons for now, as it isn’t the right time to officially carry them. After all, he still needs to complete his mission at the Fortress, and walking around with these would be too conspicuous.

If he wants to infiltrate the enemy, he cannot afford a single slip-up during the chaos of his mission.

Li Yao leisurely walked for less than ten minutes before he was finally discovered by a patrol of Scouts.

"Who’s there, coming to the Magma Fortress seeking death?"

The leading captain was slightly taken aback by Li Yao’s attire; however, since Li Yao was in the form of a dwarf and Uldaman had many dwarves, the captain, though stern in speech, bore no intent to kill.

Li Yao slowly took off his hood and spoke in a hoarse voice, "Scared you, blind mutt, daring to be rude to a Divine Envoy like me."

The captain was taken aback: "Divine Envoy, you... could you be the great Divine Messenger?"

"It seems you are not a high-ranking believer to fail to recognize me. But the grace of the divine is immense, it will not mind your ignorance and impertinence." Li Yao pointed his finger, and a tendril of mist rapidly spread to the captain’s forehead: "Kneel down, and accept the blessing of the divine."

The captain hesitated but, seeing the sinister tendril filled with the aura of the ancient divine and feeling an aura that could tremble his very soul, he knelt down.

As the captain knelt, the tendril entered his forehead at that instant; the other team members saw it pulsating as if alive, a bizarre energy mixed with a sanguine essence flowing into the captain’s forehead.

The captain, who was on the verge of a breakthrough to a chieftain level, suddenly surged in aura; with black mist swirling around him, he reached the chieftain level in an instant.

"Thank you, Divine Envoy, Sir." The captain’s face was ecstatic, for ascending from the rank of Silver Elite to that of a chieftain was nothing short of a metamorphosis; both his power and status would undergo tremendous changes.

Moreover, he could feel that his power and that of the other person were of the same origin. Only during their first collective allegiance to the ancient gods, when the gods had modified their souls, had he felt such oppression and aura. And now, he was feeling it once again, how could he not be excited.

He also had no doubts about the Divine Envoy identity mentioned by Li Yao, let alone dare to question it.

A few Scout team members looked at Li Yao full of longing, but Li Yao did not pay them any attention, and instead, he immediately withdrew his Touch of Darkness.

What a joke, not to mention that the Touch of Darkness itself was the corpse of an ancient god, but also because other ancient gods had absorbed the power of this god, making their already similar auras nearly identical.

At least ordinary people could not tell the difference. Li Yao simply wanted to see if he could infiltrate from the inside. If he could take in new recruits from the other side, that would naturally make things much easier, to find a way to remove the curse, allowing the Green Dragons to revert to their Giant Dragon Form, and all would be OK.

If not, then he could simply continue with the original plans and go for a head-on confrontation.

After all, there was not much of a loss. As for risks, charging into a fortress alone, there were bound to be risks.

"Thank you for your generosity, Divine Envoy, Sir." The captain looked at Li Yao and the formidable, fierce Spider Tank with reverence. Having become a chieftain-level, he could feel even more clearly the terrifying aura of Li Yao and the Spider Tank.

This kind of aura was definitely from the ancient gods. Their souls had been modified by the gods, and such an aura could not deceive them.

"I have merely received some minor powers thanks to the care of my master, but it is far inferior compared to him. If you want to thank someone, then treat the master more devoutly," Li Yao said indifferently.

"Yes, yes, once I return I will worship the great ancient god all through the night," the captain replied repeatedly.

"Very good, my master’s gifts have not been wasted in vain. You all as well, as long as you’re devout, will surely gain power," Li Yao went on bluffing with a straight face.

The reason he granted the captain power was actually because the captain would have ascended in rank soon anyway without his Touch of Darkness. His granting was merely a catalyst that allowed the captain to advance a few days earlier. As for the other team members, they had only recently become Silver Elites, and he certainly did not actually have the ability to promote someone.

The previous granting was just a spur-of-the-moment act to completely dispel any doubts from the other party. Even if it was impossible to help others get promoted, the origin power of the ancient gods contained within it would still make them utterly convinced.

"Divine Envoy, Sir, what is your purpose for coming to the fortress this time?" the captain asked cautiously.

"There are some things you are not yet in a position to inquire about. Take me back to the fortress; I need to see your general, Alice," Li Yao cut him off.

The captain did not mind at all and still nodded and bowed, saying, "I dare not delay Divine Envoy, Sir’s matters. But others may not be aware of your identity, and you might encounter trouble from other patrols or when entering the fortress. How about I take you there?"

Li Yao pretended to ponder for a while before slightly nodding his head, "That’s fine, then lead the way."

"Yes, yes," the captain said with a face full of humility but turned around and said sternly, "You guys continue the patrol; I have a more important task at hand."

The team members were full of envy, having originally hoped to also benefit from the situation, but they couldn’t speak up and had to continue on their way reluctantly.

The captain summoned a subterranean creature and hurriedly led Li Yao toward the fortress. After a while, he cautiously asked, "Divine Envoy, Sir, is your mount a puppet you created yourself? It’s truly majestic, even frightening to look at."

This time, Li Yao did not even lift his head, only snorting through his nose. The captain did not know whether that was a yes or a no. Seeing that Li Yao did not want to talk, the captain prudently kept quiet and continued to lead the way, although his eyes showed disappointment, unable to get closer to the Divine Envoy...
