Mercenary’s War
Chapter 430 - 430 427 Explosion Super Can Opener

430: Chapter 427: Explosion, Super Can Opener.

430: Chapter 427: Explosion, Super Can Opener.

With Glolov’s machine gun suppression, Frey had the opportunity to precisely throw grenades through each window.

Leaning against the wall, Frey pulled out a grenade, took a couple of steps back, threw the grenade through the window, then returned to the base of the wall to grab another one.

He repeated the action, retreating a few steps each time before lobbing another grenade, methodically blasting through every visible window.

Although it was a small building, it was at most two slightly larger residences, totally different from apartment buildings in the city.

If a comparison had to be made, the architectural type was more like a pair of villas, but because of the surrounding walls, the rooms on the ground floor couldn’t be attacked with grenades.

To completely resolve the battle, they had to enter the courtyard.

The upper floors were basically silent now, but what the situation was on the first floor was unknown.

Having fired all his rounds, Tommy ran over to Gao Yang’s side to reinforce the assault force.

Hearing almost no gunfire inside the courtyard, Gao Yang felt it was time to initiate the assault.

When Glolov needed to retreat to change his ammo belt, Gao Yang urgently said over the radio, “Big Dog, continue suppressing fire after you’ve reloaded and cover us for the assault; Rabbit, come and reinforce the assault team.”

It was unknown how many people were still alive inside the building, and there were at most five of them launching the assault.

They needed to cross the courtyard and then forcefully enter a house whose occupant numbers were unknown.

The risk was extremely high, but aside from this method, Gao Yang had no other way to end the battle.

After arranging the assault team’s positions with hand signals, Gao Yang took the lead and stuck to the wall as he approached the gate.

The gate was three meters wide with two iron doors wide open.

Getting into the courtyard was not difficult; the challenge was how to pass through the suppression of enemy firepower.

After all, the firepower from the first floor hadn’t been cleared, and although the courtyard had been bombarded with mortars, it was unknown if anyone from inside the house had moved back into the yard.

Gao Yang took a deep breath, then suddenly flashed his body at the doorway, but retreated quickly after only a brief exposure.

Gao Yang’s probe indeed drew innumerable bullets, shattering bricks at the corner of the gate, and some high-powered bullets even penetrated the brick wall, leaving several holes in it.

Fortunately, Gao Yang ran back after the brief test, and there weren’t many enemy weapons capable of penetrating the brick wall.

Returning to the starting point and catching his breath, Gao Yang said in a low voice, “The enemy has one 7.62mm machine gun that can penetrate the brick wall, but it seems to be the only one; other guns cannot penetrate.

Judging from the angles, the shots are almost entirely coming from the ground floor.”

“Judging by the sound, at least twenty guns were fired just now.”

After Tommy spoke, Sirte also said in a low voice, “Mostly 5.56mm caliber, with a few M43 intermediate cartridges.”

Although it was just a probe, they gained a good deal of information.

Summarizing what everyone had gathered, the situation became clear.

Gao Yang frowned and said, “There are at least twenty guns locking down the gate; we can’t break through.

But from the current situation, we’ve run out of means to forcibly breach or neutralize the enemy’s firepower.”

The situation now was that the enemy couldn’t come out, but Gao Yang’s team couldn’t go in either, unless they could bring in a heavy cannon to blow up the two small buildings occupied by the enemy, or if Gao Yang’s team had an armored vehicle or tank for cover.

Just as Gao Yang was at his wits’ end, Sirte suddenly chuckled, then said softly, “Call Big Dog over; you guys get ready and prepare to unleash instant lethal firepower.

When the opportunity comes, fire with all your might.”

Sirte’s words made Gao Yang startle, saying, “What opportunity?

Do you have a plan?”

Sirte smiled again, took off his backpack, opened it, and then reached in to pull out a yellow packet and a box, saying with a smile, “I have C4.

I’ll open a hole in the wall, and then we’ll take them out before the enemy can react.”

Looking at the items in Sirte’s hands, Gao Yang was overjoyed and immediately said over the radio, “Big Dog, come here.”

Sirte divided the C4 from the small packet into four portions, molding them into long shapes against the brick wall with a four-meter interval in between, then installed the detonators.

Pointing to two positions, Sirte said, “If you stand behind these two lines, you won’t be affected by the blast.

Wait for the wall to blow open, then you must be quick to fire.”

The positions Sirte indicated were only two meters away from where he placed the C4.

Gao Yang couldn’t help but worry, saying, “Can Opener, it’s not too close, is it?”

Sirte chuckled again and said, “Buddy, do you hurt yourself when you open a can?”

Gao Yang, with trepidation, moved close to the line Sirte had specified.

Glolov, with his machine gun, was right behind him, followed by Frey.

On the other side, Sirte took the front position, with Cui Bo and Tommy behind him.

“Alright, crouch down, lower your heads, cover your ears and face, ready?

Detonate!”

The explosion wasn’t very powerful, but very effective.

After a not too loud blast, a four-meter gap appeared in the wall, with the broken section falling inward cleanly.

Gao Yang quickly raised his head and rushed toward the gap.

After providing a firing position for the others behind him, he immediately opened fire, and in an instant, gunfire erupted into a cacophony.

The wall was only about ten meters from the building, very close.

Gao Yang fired continuously, hitting every target he could see.

After fiercely focusing his fire at the breach, Gao Yang roared, “Charge!”

The enemy’s firepower was momentarily silenced.

After firing eight shotgun rounds in rapid succession, Gao Yang leaped forward, rushing toward the two-story building in front of him, and as he dashed, he swiftly reloaded the shells into the chamber.

The first-floor door was open.

As Gao Yang burst in, he saw a person leaning against the door frame, raising a gun at him, and he blasted the person’s head off with one shot.

Upon entering the doorway, Gao Yang realized the situation inside was much more complex than he had anticipated.

It wasn’t a large space like a living room but a corridor with many doors, and the depth of the house was greater than he expected, with limited visibility.

After shooting dead an enemy, Gao Yang’s field of vision no longer held any living people, and he hurriedly reloaded.

Meanwhile, the people following him surged in.

Upon seeing the scene inside the house, everyone was somewhat dumbfounded.

Many rooms meant each one had to be searched individually—a dangerous and, more crucially, time-consuming task.

Gao Yang urgently said, “There are too many rooms here, and if the second floor has the same layout, then the lethality of the grenades we threw in will be less than expected.”

No sooner had Gao Yang finished speaking than he saw a grenade thrown from an open door.

“Get down!”

After shouting, Gao Yang immediately hit the ground.

The person throwing the grenade wasn’t very skilled, giving Gao Yang and his team enough time to get down before the grenade detonated more than three meters in front of Gao Yang.

Although the one who threw the grenade stayed hidden inside the room, failing to throw it into the crowd, Gao Yang and the others were unharmed because they had promptly hit the deck.

But they couldn’t count on being so lucky next time.

In such a confined space, the grenade’s power would be amplified, and after bouncing around, no one could know where it might end up.

After the explosion, Sirte, while getting up, yelled, “Retreat!”

Gao Yang, though unsure why Sirte issued a retreat command, trusted there was good reason.

He got up and, along with the others, retreated from the two-story building they had just breached.

During an assault, the situation changes rapidly.

If someone realizes they must retreat, they can immediately inform their comrades, without waiting for orders from the command.

After somewhat frantically exiting the building, they quickly ran back to the breach where the attack had started, Gao Yang barked, “Suppress enemy fire, take advantageous positions.”

Once outside the courtyard wall, Glolov immediately resumed suppressive fire.

The enemy’s firepower, although recovered somewhat, was not as intense as before.

With Glolov’s suppressive fire established, Frey took up a shooting position from another corner of the breach, while Cui Bo and Tommy quickly ran to the gate.

Both men took up shooting positions on either corner of the wall, setting up two assault points.

Just then, Li Jinfang said through the radio in an anxious voice, “Toad calling in, we haven’t engaged in any fighting on our side, do you need support?”

“Not for now, let’s wait and see.”

After replying to Jinfang, Gao Yang immediately asked Sirte, “Why did we pull out?”

Sirte shrugged, pulled out several yellow packets from his bag, and wiggled them in front of Gao Yang with a smile, “It’s too complicated inside, no need to search each room one by one.

I’ve got a more efficient method, like, blowing up that building.”

Gao stared, wide-eyed, and said, “Will that work?”

“Buddy, why do you think they call me ‘Can Opener’?

Surely it’s not because I’m a firepower specialist, right?”

Though the answer was tangential, Gao understood Sirte’s intent.

He nodded, suddenly realizing, and said, “Got it, I understand now.

Then let’s go pop the enemy’s can open.”

Sirte shook the little packet in his hand, laughing loudly, “I love C4, I love burying the enemy in rubble, I love this job.

Let’s start with that two-story building.

Just a small two-story structure, so we only need to carry out a controlled demolition on two critical points to bring the whole building down.

Cover me to the bottom of the building.

One minute, that’s all I need, tops.”

As he spoke and set up the detonator, Sirte nodded at Gao Yang, “We can start.”

Gao Yang shouted, “Don’t let the enemy get a shot at Can Opener, now, fire!”

Gao joined in the suppression, firing two shots before yelling, “Go!”

Responding to the call, Sirte rushed to the base of the two-story building.

He didn’t enter the building but instead attached C4 to two points on the exterior wall, then sprinted back.

Upon returning, Sirte immediately said, “A good two kilograms of C4, earth-shattering.

Guys, get back a bit, and watch your heads for flying bricks!”

Immediately, Gao and the others got up and ran to either side.

As they did, Gao Yang loudly warned through the radio, “Toad, get away from the target building, it’s gonna blow!”

“What’s going on?

How far should we run?”

Gao answered urgently, “Stop asking, just run as far as you can, you have ten seconds!”

Once they had run more than thirty meters, Sirte stopped, hid behind the wall of a nearby home, gave Gao Yang a wave, a big smile, and then pressed the button on the wireless detonator.

After a ground-shaking explosion, a great plume of smoke and dust billowed into the sky.

Moments later, bricks and debris rained down, and lighter fragments like splinters began to scatter within a two-hundred-meter radius.

Then, Sulta, holding the detonator, waved it triumphantly at Gao Yang, bellowing, “Come on, let’s give the other building the same treatment!” (To be continued.
