Chapter 1250: Chapter One Thousand Two Hundred Thirty-Three: Advice
Albert had a shaved head with a round face and a circle of beard. Judging by his appearance alone, he seemed pleasant enough. But when he stared at people, he always fixed his gaze on them, his facial expression grave. Being stared at by him felt like being watched by a ferocious beast—he gave off an unsettling vibe that suggested he wasn’t an ordinary person.
This same Albert, when talking about his nickname, seemed terribly shy—a face full of bashfulness.
Albert wasn’t keen on sharing, and people meeting him for the first time wouldn’t pry either. After Albert gave a basic introduction of himself, Gao Yang spoke in a deep voice, “This is Albert’s first time meeting everyone. Introduce yourselves to him.”
Glolov said in a low voice, “Big Dog, machine gunner.”
Li Jinfang smiled and said, “Toad. You can call me that, or you can call me Frog. I’m an assault team member, and I’m also interested in free fighting. If we have time, let’s spar.”
Albert rubbed his head and replied with a laugh, “Okay, okay, let’s do that when we have time.”
Eileen snapped her fingers and said softly, “Call me Tyrannosaurus, assault team.”
Albert genuinely smiled and said, “Hello, beautiful. I never thought I’d have the honor of fighting alongside such a lovely lady. This is truly my lucky day.”
The people of Satan introduced themselves one by one, explaining their positions and roles to Albert. When it came to Taylor’s turn, unlike the others, he said in a somber tone, “You can call me Postman. I’m currently with the assault team, but I’m not part of Satan. I’m just temporarily operating with Satan for now.”
Albert laughed and said, “So, you and I are both in a probationary period?”
Taylor shook his head and replied, “Not exactly. Our situations are different.”
Taylor’s situation was indeed different. He remained with Satan solely for the purpose of avenging Bruce, and hunting Krulney was evidently part of the vengeance plan. Thus, Taylor had to be included. Whether he would stay or leave after avenging Bruce depended entirely on Taylor’s own decision in the end.
Satan had already accepted Taylor, but Taylor might choose to pursue the life he wanted afterward. Though Taylor was unquestionably a rare talent, such matters could not be forced. Satan never compelled anyone to stay against their will.
Once everyone had finished introducing themselves, Gao Yang pointed at Glolov and addressed Albert sternly, “On the battlefield, you must obey every one of my orders. If I fall or in the event of special circumstances, Big Dog, as the deputy commander, will assume overall command.”
Albert nodded and replied, “Understood, Boss.”
Gao Yang then gestured toward Andy He and spoke loudly, “He is our medic, and you are our combat medic. You need to understand this distinction clearly. The two of you form our medical team. Dragon Knight is your superior. During wartime, when performing duties as a medic, you will follow Dragon Knight’s orders.”
Albert nodded at Andy He and immediately replied, “Understood. Dragon Knight is my direct leader. I will follow his commands.”
Gao Yang then pointed to Li Jinfang and spoke solemnly, “In Satan, we believe in versatility. Everyone here must adapt to multiple roles. Albert, aside from being a combat medic, you may also serve as an assault team member when necessary. As an assault team member, you will obey his orders. Within the assault team, your second-ranking officer is Tyrannosaurus.”
Albert smiled and said, “Understood.”
Without a leader, the team would falter. Even if Satan’s numbers were small, a clear chain of command had to be established.
For Satan’s seasoned members, there was no need for lengthy discussion about who should lead in the event of an emergency. They instinctively knew the succession of command. However, as a newcomer, Albert had to be explicitly informed of the command structure, especially since there wasn’t the usual training session meant to build synergy after a new addition.
Fortunately, Albert was a combat medic, a role that typically didn’t involve combat missions unless absolutely essential. For the time being, any lack of synergy wouldn’t pose a major problem. However, assigning Albert directly to the assault team would be problematic. In battlefield scenarios, especially CQB (Close Quarters Battle) engagements where situations change rapidly, a lack of coordination could lead to catastrophic results. Building synergy would be a matter to address gradually as time allowed.
Having explained the command structure to Albert, Gao Yang patted him on the shoulder and addressed everyone, “Albert is a newbie. Dragon Knight, he’s in your hands. Help him get familiar with Satan’s operations and, at the same time, brief him on this mission.”
Andy He waved his hand and replied with a smile, “Roger, Boss.”
The primary purpose of Andy He taking Albert around was to evaluate Albert’s skill level. If Albert couldn’t even perform adequately as a combat medic, he’d be dismissed immediately.
Gao Yang waved his hand and announced to everyone, “Alright, there’s no news for now, nothing to talk about. Dismissed. Each of you grab a key and pick a room. Time to rest.”
After speaking, Gao Yang remembered something else and quickly pointed at Eileen, turning to Albert and saying, “Oh, one thing I forgot. Villain, here’s a piece of advice: don’t mess with her. Absolutely don’t mess with her.”
Albert looked at Eileen and laughed, “Don’t worry. I always treat ladies with utmost respect—very, very respectfully!”
Gao Yang clapped his hands and said, “That’s all. Dismissed.”
Eileen seemed visibly displeased with the way Albert was staring at her. She turned her head toward Li Jinfang and said loudly, “Hey, Toad, I found a gym nearby that also hosts a boxing club. Wanna go sweat it out for a bit?”
As Satan’s number one and number two assault members, the duo of Li Jinfang and Eileen was always mobilized for critical assault missions. Assault team members often faced the most dangerous environments, especially during urban warfare and indoor combat, where life-and-death outcomes are often decided in seconds. Their synergy was so impeccable that they didn’t even need any signals to understand each other.
Gao Yang had always found it astonishing that Li Jinfang and Eileen hadn’t developed any romantic interests in one another. That, he believed, remained one of Satan’s biggest mysteries.
Once Eileen finished her suggestion, Li Jinfang immediately responded, “Sure. Let’s go. It’s been a while since I’ve moved around. Time for a workout.”
Albert, visibly thrilled, exclaimed, “Can I tag along? Let’s go have some fun! Hey, Tyrannosaurus, I’m so happy you’re into fighting too. Looks like we share a common interest.”
Li Jinfang spread his hands and said, “Then join us. You were just saying earlier how we should spar if we get the chance. Well, here’s the chance.”
Eileen flashed a sweet smile at Albert and said, “Alright. Come with us. I can never beat Toad, but now that you’re here, maybe we can train together more often in the future.” (To be continued.
