Chapter 26: Chapter 26

Rose walked behind them as they climbed a series of stairs.

They’d long passed the familiar study; now, they were on a very dark staircase, and the windows were heavily covered with thick dark curtains as if the moonlight would melt down the walls if it came through.

The other staircases were quite brighter as the curtains were drawn, and the orange hue of the moon showed into the castle.

But this time, she knew they were getting closer to Cassius as the place kept getting darker and darker, and the atmosphere up there was quite chill a typical vampire king’s abode.

They climbed the last stairs, and Rose realized that they were on the last floor of the Blood Castle.

Pitch dark.

Even the Elves had slowed down the pace at which they walked, they were probably using their imagery at this point because they might have been there before.

They were currently in the longest passage that Rose had ever walked in; it stretched forever, and they were still heading toward, probably toward the last door at the end of the passage.

Rose wished she had come out with the phone Eliot had gifted her, it would have served as the source of light for them.

They were almost reaching the end of the hall when Rose paused in front of a door.

This door was different from anything she’d seen in the Blood Castle.

Anyone would have thought that by the way the emphasis was laid on the door it must be something spectacular.

Well, yes, it was spectacular, but not in the way one would think.

"A white door..." Rose whispered as she stared at the door.

The place was dark but the bright color of the door drew her in Immediately.

It was the first white thing she’d seen in the Blood Castle and she wondered why it was so.

’Why was it so different from the others? What was in there?’ Rose silently thought.

She blinked her eyes away from the door and followed the Elves who were now standing in front of a large and tall dark door.

She was expecting them to knock or something, but the door suddenly drew open on its own; the noiseless hinges made it more creepy than it should have been.

Rose watched as the Elves silently stepped into the dark room; her heart suddenly started pounding fast in her chest; she was desperately praying that she wouldn’t be among those who died inside that room that night.

She took a deep breath and moved one foot in front of the other, her hands tightening around the tray she was carrying.

The moment she crossed the door, it shut silently behind her just the same way it had opened.

She stood in front of it, not stepping an inch forward.

The whole room was pitch black, and Cassius’ scent filled the whole place.

It was a scent that described the owner.

Forest and wet wood, but, not in the smelly way.

It was like that of a cold forest, with the sweet yet strong scents of wood wafting into the air on the first drops of rain.

She knew he was in there, but she couldn’t point out the exact place he was because of how dark everywhere was.

"Oh..." Rose gasped softly.

She was surprised by the sudden lightning that illuminated the room.

The flickering lightning came from a candle Chanderlier which created a warm, soft glow that emanated throughout the room.

The flickering flames cast a mesmerizing dance of light and shadow on the velvety curtains that flowed down the whole windows. The curtains were so thick that even if the sun was to rise beside it, it wouldn’t still penetrate the room.

She recognized the canopy king-sized bed, and the whole room too. This was the same room she had woken up in the first day she was there...she knew that this was Cassius’ room even though he was still nowhere to be seen.

Rose was getting more anxious with how calm the Elves were looking; the eerie silence was beginning to eat at her skin; she didn’t want to keep standing in a place and waiting for the suspense to unfold.

She turned her head to the side, in search of where to place the flowers.

She saw a small round table beside the high, mystic, throne-like chair that she had seen Cassius sitting on the day she was brought to his room.

She took a deep breath and decided to go and place the flowers on top of the table.

She ignored the Elves that were standing in front of her and walked toward the table.

She placed the vase on top of it, poured the lukewarm into it, and then, very carefully, she picked the Rose flowers and placed them inside the Vase.

Rose picked up her tray and water jug from the table after she had placed the flowers in the center of the table.

She was about to turn and return to her position in front of the door when she suddenly felt a shadow behind her.

"Jesus!" Rose gasped loudly; her heart almost fell into her stomach because of how frightened she was.

She gripped her fingers tight around the tray and slowly turned to face him.

She gulped quietly as her eyes met with Cassius’ green eyes. Her pulse was racing faster than a car on a race track, but she bit down her fear and greeted him.

"Good evening, Sir," Rose held his gaze; his shoulder-length black hair was let down that evening, giving him a mysterious yet sexy aura, and she tried her best to keep her eyes on his face and not let it wander down his open chest.

Cassius was wearing a dark blue silk robe and he had forgotten to tie it around himself, leaving his upper body on display for anyone to see.

Rose knew she should be panicking, but she was suddenly recalling that dream, and her cheeks immediately flamed up.

Cassius didn’t respond to Rose’s greeting, he only moved closer to her and held her left wrist.

Rose shuddered as she felt Cassius’ cold hand on her wrist, she immediately released her left hand from the tray and let him take it up to his face.

She stared with curiosity at him as he turned her thumb up to his nose and took a soft but long sniff.

Rose opened her mouth to breathe, she was suddenly finding it hard to breathe with what Cassius was doing.

It was a simple gesture, yet she found herself getting turned on by it.

Why was he sniffing her thumb?

"Are you tempting me, little human?" Cassius spoke against her thumb, then slowly, he covered the space between them and drew her toward him.

Rose gasped very softly as she felt Cassius lower his face to the crook of her neck.

"Answer me, little human. Are you tempting me at my peak?" He questioned in a silky smooth voice.

Rose shook her head, "N-no...I don’t know what you’re talking about," She breathed quietly.

Cassius scoffed and stepped away from her, then he held her thumb up to her face, and then he moved back to her, wrapping his hand around her neck.

"You prick yourself, knowing how sweet the scent of your blood is, and you walk into my lair, pretending you don’t know what you’ve done?" He whispered as his fingers gently sprawled around her neck, caressing the sides of it.

Rose was gripping the tray tightly close to her stomach, her insides were twisting weirdly as the bridge of Cassius’ nose slid along the side of her beck.

"I...I brought you Elves," Rise blurted out.

As much as she was enjoying Cassius’ sensual touch, she knew it was dangerous to dance with the devil, she didn’t want to get burned.

Cassius slowly stepped away from Rose and turned to face the Elves.

"Come forward," He commanded quietly.

Automatically, the Elves turned and hypnotically walked over to him.

Rose watches as they start to unbutton their shirt without any further words from Cassius.

They held their shirts in their hands and said in a hypnotized voice. "Master, we’re here to serve you,"

Rose knew she was about to witness something gory. She braced herself as Cassius walked behind the first elf and placed his long fingers on his shoulders, and for some reason, he kept his eyes locked on Rose as he lowered his face to the side of the elf’s neck.

He held her frightened gaze as he protruded his fangs and sunk them into the Elf’s neck.

No sound was made; all Rose could hear and see were the loud gulps from Cassius and the change in his eye color.

Surprisingly, Rose does not find it as scary as it was the first time, maybe because she had already prepared herself mentally for it. She found herself unable to look away from his glowing red eyes, she felt hypnotized.

Just when she thought the elf was going to fall limp from loss of blood, Cassius stepped away from him.

Cassius removed his fangs from the first elf and moved over to the second one, his eyes never left Rose’s transfixed gaze as he sank his fang again into the second elf’s neck.

Just like the last guy, he moved away from the elf and slowly licked his lips.

"Leave," He ordered.

Without question, they turned and left the room in silence steps, leaving Rose alone with the deathly Vampire princess.
