Chapter 25: Chapter 25

Rose quickly got out of bed and apologized to Susan.

"I’m sorry, Ma’am, I’ll get ready immediately," Rose said and took out her dress that was hung on the walk on a small nail.

"You wake with the Elven slaves, which is normally earlier than the vampires, so you have five minutes before the master wakes up, " Susan dropped the bowl of water to the floor.

"Wash yourself with this and drop that dress; this is what you’ll be wearing as the master’s slave from today," Susan threw a silk plain white material to Rose.

"Oh," Rose caught the dress in her arm.

"Thank you," She said.

Susan nodded and left the room, closing the door behind her.

Rose held the dress in front of her; it was a white sleeveless dress with a V-neck that looked so deep. The dress looked as if it would hug her curves when she put it on.

Rose put the dress down and carried the bowl into her bathroom, a very small space that was enough for her to stand.

The water was icy cold, as expected from a kingdom of the dead; everything would be icy like them.

She took a deep breath before using the washcloth that was provided for her to wash herself as best as he could.

After her quick wash, she quickly wore the dress and unwrapped her hair from the towel she used to tie it.

She looked down at her dress and sighed in relief. Thank goodness the material was thick enough to cover her breasts; she just hoped she wouldn’t encounter rain or water, if not, her body would be exposed to a whole lot of people.

She checked for the phone and found it below her bed where it must have fallen while she slept.

She quickly picked it up and placed it on her bed, she hoped Laura would have replied by the time she returned in the morning.

Not wasting any more time, Rose left the room.

She was surprised to see the passage swarming with Elven slaves, everyone was rushing to start their duties for the day.

"That’s her, the one with the bad blood," Rose heard someone speak behind her.

"Hey, Master’s slave," Someone pushed her from behind.

Rose stumbled and almost fell but she braced her hand against the wall.

She turned to see two female Elves staring at her menacingly.

She recognized one of them as the girl who led her to the dining room the other day, the one who pushed her, she didn’t recognize.

But she knew her type, she’d read enough novels to know that the other slave was always out for trouble, and when you get yourself involved with her, she would implicate you and go scot-free.

She stared at them, unblinking. She wasn’t going to waste her time with irrelevant slaves like herself; she had other duties awaiting her, like going up to Cassius’ room to see what he needed her to do for him.

"See, I told you she’s weird, May," The familiar Elf slave said.

"Who do you think you are?" May charged at Rose, aiming for a slap.

"What’s going on here?" Cornelia suddenly asked from the foot of the stairs.

May withdrew her hand and stopped her attack.

Rose scoffed silently; she knew May must have thought that she was just going to stand and let her slap her, luckily for both of them, Cornelia appeared, if not, both of them would have have been heavily punished for fighting and she might have just been punished harder for injuring a college, because she would have.

May smiled at Cornelia, "Good evening, Madam Cornelia, it’s nothing, I was just passing, right, Ellie?" May asked the girl beside her.

’So her name was Ellie,’ Rose noted.

Ellie nodded and held May’s hand. "Of course, May, let’s go, we have a lot of work to do." She led May and walked away from the scene.

Rose sighed and walked over to Cornelia, "Good evening, Cornelia. I’m sorry about this," Rose bit her lips.

Cornelia shook her head, her white hair was packed in a tight bun, making her face look younger than usual.

"When will you learn that if you want to survive in the dark world as a human, you have to avoid trouble with every creature? I mean every creature. Trust me, even Elves have some advantages over humans, they could take you down without a fuss, Rose, come here," Cornelia grabbed Rose’s wrist and led her down the stairs.

"I’m sorry," Rose apologized again.

"Be quiet," Cornelia replied and kept dragging her out toward the exit.

"Hava a nice day, Cornelia," Susan waved at Cornelia as she dragged Rose past the reception.

Cornelia just nodded and walked out of the slaves’ quarters with Rose behind her.

"Now, go pick some flowers for his room," Cornelia paused in the walkway and pointed to the Garden of Roses.

Rose slowly turned her head to look at Cornelia, "It’s...dark..." Rose said quietly.

The moon would have been enough light to aid her in picking the flowers, but this side of the building was cast a dark shadow from the Blood Castle; almost half of the slaves’ quarters were covered by the reflection of the castle, making the Rose garden dark for a human, like herself.

"Oh...human. Not nocturnal," Cornelia sighed.

"Wait here," She narrowed her eyes at Rose before hurrying back into the building.

She soon returned with a flashlight and a small knife, holding it out to her.

"Thank you," Rose took them from her and turned it on.

"Hurry," Cornelia pointed to the garden.

Rose took a deep breath and stepped down from the walkway onto the garden.

Luckily, there was a path for her to follow.

She lowered herself beside the flower and carefully cut the stem as she used her head to lock the torchlight between her neck and shoulder.

"Ouch!" Rose gasped, holding her thumb up and watching the blood drop to the floor from it.

"Careful, Rose!" Cornelia said in a worried tone.

"Don’t drag attention to yourself; this is the lair of every vampire; the slightest scent of blood would draw them to you," She warned.

Rose sighed and nodded; she didn’t know where to wipe her bleeding thumb, she didn’t want her blood dropping on the flowers.

"Here," Cornelia gave her a red handkerchief.

She looked up and took the handkerchief from her, "Thank you," She wiped her thumb on it and hung it over her shoulder.

"I’ll wash it and return it to you," Rose promised.

"Keep it, it has your scent forever in it now," Cornelia informed and returned to the walkway.

Rose was more careful this time; she got quite a few, making sure she didn’t touch the petals.

"That’s enough, Rose, let’s go," Cornelia said when she saw that Rose had gotten enough flowers.

Rose slowly stood; she walked back to the walkway carefully so her long dress didn’t hook on any thorn.

"Here," She returned the torchlight to Cornelia.

"Hurry, it’s time for his dinner," Cornelia took the torchlight from her and headed into the Blood Castle.

Rose followed her behind, holding the flowers and the handkerchief in separate hand.

They walked up the stairs and walked down another stair which led to the kitchen.

Bustling.

That was one word to describe the kitchen that night.

As usual, different foods were cooking and different aromas were up in the air.

Rose’s tummy growled as she stood beside Cornelia and suddenly, everywhere went quiet.

Rose looked up and realized that everyone was staring at her.

"Go back to work, everyone, quit staring," Cornelia ordered, and once again, the kitchen went back to the bustling nature, and sounds of chatter and utensils were heard again.

"It was your tummy. Don’t forget that everyone here has a super hearing, your tummy growl might just have sounded a little too loud to the ears," Cornelia explained.

"Oh, I understand," Rose blushed in embarrassment.

Cornelia turned and gave Rose a tray with just a Vase in it.

"Um..." Rose was confused.

"I thought I was supposed to deliver his food?" She questioned with a cute furrowed brow.

Cornelia shook her head, "Well, yes, but not on a tray. Behind you." Cornelia pointed to the two male Elves standing beside the exit.

Rose blinked; it took her a second to understand what Cornelia meant.

"Oh..." She whispered.

So, this was her going to witness the first horrific scene again.

Cassius was going to suck the lives out of those poor Elves.

"This is lukewarm water; for the flowers, find a good spot and place it; make sure it is cool and dry. Change it every three days. Understood?" Cornelia asked.

Rose nodded, staring at the silver vase.

She placed the Rose flowers on the tray beside the vase and turned to leave with them.

"Come find me in my room whenever you’re done. I’ll have your meal by then," Cornelia informed.

Rose smiled and nodded. "Thank you, I will," She replied excitedly.

Cornelia waved her off and returned to her cooking.

She knew she wasn’t supposed to care this much for Rose, but she couldn’t help it.

She felt the urge to protect her, maybe because she was the only human in their world and because she knew Rose would get bullied if she were to Join the slaves’ diner room.

"Umm, let’s go, I guess..." Rose spoke softly to the two Elves beside the door.

Without replying, they followed her out of the kitchen.

Rose reached the carpeted stairs and realized that she didn’t know the way to Cassius’ room.

She didn’t know how she got there on the first day.

"I’m sorry, can you guys go first, I’ll walk behind," Rose suggested.

Without a word, they moved past her and walked ahead.

Rose felt sorry, she knew they were walking to their death, but she couldn’t do anything about it.
