Chapter 20: Chapter 20

Rose was walking back to the dining hall to clear her plates as other slaves left Cassius’ plates for her as his personal slave.

No one was worthy to touch his dishes unless he permitted it.

Cornelia had been the one in charge of his dishes, but now that he had a personal slave, it was now her duty to take care of everything that concerned him.

As she entered the dining hall, she felt an eerie feeling wash over her, she looked around the room and couldn’t sense anyone, but her instincts told her she wasn’t alone.

She slowly walked toward the table but suddenly paused when she felt a shadow pass behind her.

She swiftly turned her neck behind her but frowned deeply when she saw no one and nothing.

Fear was starting to grip her strongly. She was still trying to get her emotions in check from everything that happened inside Cassius’ study, the information she got about herself was still a shock to her, and now, some dark figure was trying to play Halloween on her.

She just wished everything was a dream and she would fall off her bed and wake up, how happy she would be.

"Ouch!" Her feet suddenly collided with the sturdy foot of the table.

"Fuck this," Rose gritted her teeth, raising her foot and hopping on one leg.

’Fuck you, Cassius!’ She cursed internally, knowing he might hear her if she said it out loud.

She took a deep breath as she lowered her hurt foot to the floor, angrily limping over to the table.

She didn’t give a fuck about who or what was hiding in the shadows and trying to scare her, right now, her pain overrode her anger.

She angrily packed the dishes on the large tray she had carried before but applied caution not to break any of them, especially his wine glass, or rather, blood glass.

After packing the plates, she gently carried the tray and walked out of the dining hall; before she left, she felt someone move behind her, but she didn’t bother looking back, whatever it was didn’t want to show itself to her, so why should she go looking for it?

She sighed in relief when she successfully reached the kitchen, but she noticed that no one was there, they had probably finished their business there and went on to do other things, given that she was a little late because of what had happened with Cassius and Eliot.

She carefully placed the tray down beside the black marbled sink and started to wash them one by one.

Seeing Eliot here had shaken her, but finding out he was also a prince of the kingdom left her speechless.

No wonder she was attracted to him, he was a supernatural being, a werewolf, Lycan to be precise, they were known for their hot looks in stories, and she had just confirmed that those stories she read did in fact, have truth to them, because look at her now, living her life in a world she had thought only existed in her story.

Though stories didn’t do justice to all the creatures, the description of werewolves or Lycans in their human form could pass by using words such as hot and sexy, but they failed to portray the vampire’s right.

They only describe the vampires as sleek and pale creatures, but they fail to add how fascinating they are.

Cassius, for example, if she had seen him in her world, she knew she would have switched from liking Eliot to liking him. He was charming in a dangerous way, beautiful yet handsome; his body was a walking sex appeal, even if she hadn’t seen him naked, the way he looked inside his clothes alone told her that his body was a cold killer.

He was such a mesmerizing man, and she was sure any woman would love to have him for herself, any woman, but unfortunately, no...fortunately, not her.

She despised him, and she wished she could just offer him her blood to drink...and die.

As she rinsed the plates and glasses, she suddenly remembered that Eliot had taken her to his home in the human world. She started to wonder if that was really his home or just a place he rented for that day.

It should be his home, the place looked so expensive to be for rent, and she believed it was his home because he’d surely need a place to stay when he visited the human world.

So those people she had dined with were his people; no wonder they had looked so ethereal and she had blamed it on his skin care products.

She sighed. Feeling exhausted from the thoughts that ran through her mind.

She had just finished placing the plates in the right places and was about to place the glass down when she felt the shadow move behind her again, this time closer.

Her heart skipped a beat, and this time she slowly turned to see who it was.

But before she could fully turn around, A hand suddenly sneaked around her neck and gripped her tightly on the neck.

"Argh!" Rose screamed, and the glass in her hand suddenly slipped through her fingers and fell to the floor, shattering.

She felt the cold, slim fingers around her neck, her heart lurched out of her throat, threatening to choke her.

"Shh!" Someone shushed her from behind, placing a perfectly manicured red nail against her lips.

"I’d be quiet if were you," A silky female’s voice whispered softly beside her ear.

"O-okay...okay..." Rose was breathing harshly in fear; she didn’t know which one she should be more afraid of; the unknown woman behind her, or the glass that lay shattered on the floor.

She wished the person behind her would just kill her and prevent her from having to face Cassius for his broken glass.

"Good girl, now, slowly turn around," the voice ordered quietly.

Rose obeyed, slowly turning to face the person.

She wasn’t surprised to see a woman, but she was surprised to see her fangs protrude, her eyes glowing bright green.

This couldn’t be good; a vampire with glowing eyes and protruding fangs meant danger, and looking at the bright red dress and heels the vampire was wearing, she was already looking like danger.

"Hi, Rosie. We finally meet," The lady vampire said, hissing at her.

Rose gulped, so she already knew her name, whispers must have surely gone out of the castle.

"Hi?" Rose replied awkwardly.

The lady vampire scoffed, "You dare to mock me, you mortal?" She spoke between her fangs...tightening her fingers around Rose’s neck.

Rose coughed, feeling the iron-clad grip on her neck made her feel like she was about to die the next second.

"N-no...I wasn’t..." She trailed off and coughed, her airways speedily constricting.

She suddenly felt like fighting back; if she was going to die, it wouldn’t be in the hands of an unknown crazy vampire.

She reached her hand behind her and felt for anything to defend herself with; luckily, she felt the knife she had used to peel the potatoes for Cornelia, not wasting time, she gripped it tightly and sharply raised her hand and lowered it on the lady vampire’s shoulder.

"Argh!!!!" The lady vampire screamed and momentarily released her.

Rose quickly slipped away and ran from the exit, but before she could reach the door, she was drawn back by the arm and slammed against the kitchen slab, the remaining of Cassius’ neatly packed plates shattered on the floor.

"Ugh!" She grunted from the pain, staring up at the lady vampire’s angry face.

"You shouldn’t have!" The lady vampire hissed loudly and slapped her hard on the cheek, the knife still sticking into her shoulder and dark blood trickled out from her shoulder.

"Argh! Please I’m sorry!" Rose begged as she saw the lady vampire’s fangs get longer and she was lowering her mouth to Rose’s neck.

"No! No! Please!!" Rose screamed, powerless against the lady vampire’s tight hold.

"Scarlet don’t!" Rose suddenly heard Eliot’s voice and soon, she felt Scarlet dragged away from her.

She trembled in fear as she opened her eyes and saw Eliot holding down the hissing and struggling Scarlet.

She was breathing hard, looking from the broken plates to Scarlet.

Eliot looked sharply toward her, doing a quick scan on her for any injuries before he focused on Scarlet.

"Stop it, Scarlet, or you know what happens next," Eliot spoke darkly.

Rose had never heard him sound that way before, he sounded so scary, as if he would snap her neck into two in the next second if she didn’t obey him.

But she did; Scarlet immediately stopped struggling, her fangs instantly disappearing.

"Get up," Eliot stood and commanded her.

"I’m sorry, my prince," Scarlet slowly stood and bowed to Eliot.

"Come here," he ordered, waving her over.

Scarlet walked over to him, blood trailing the floor from her stab wound.

"Argh!" Scarlet screamed as Eliot pulled the knife out of her shoulder, but in the next second, her wound healed as if nothing had ever happened to her.

"Now, mind telling me what was going on here?" Eliot asked, pinning his gaze on Scarlet.

Scarlet glared at Rose, making her hold onto the marbled slab tightly. She was still trying to comprehend everything that had happened, she didn’t even know why she was about to get killed a few seconds ago.

Scarlet turned to face Eliot, her green eyes looking all innocent now, "I’m sorry, Prince Eliot, I had just wanted to meet the new slave but she suddenly stabbed me, just as you saw," she pointed to the shoulder that had been stabbed.

Rose opened and closed her mouth, not knowing how to start and defend herself, this Scarlet was just so unbelievable!

Eliot didn’t look like he believed her, but he didn’t say anything; he only looked at Rose and asked her to leave.

"Leave, Rose," He spoke softly.

Rose didn’t wait to be told twice before she ran out of the kitchen.

She had succeeded in climbing down the stairs that led to the walkway that connected the castle and the slaves’ quarters when Cassius suddenly appeared before her at the foot of the stairs.

"Oh my god!" Rose stepped away from him, moving back up the stairs.

"Running away, little human? Who’s going to pay for the broken dishes?" Cassius asked quietly, slowly climbing up the stairs.

Rose kept moving back, fearing the overly calm look on Cassius’ face.
