Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 335: Success At Her Fingertip
Chapter 335: Success At Her Fingertip
Aurelia was not able to lift a finger nor summon her ability because the pain was incapacitating. The effect of iron on Fae makes them unable to apply magic to their wounds quickly enough to heal before bleeding out. The poison from the iron was killing her faster than she could heal and she would need a healer to increase her chances of survival.
With a grunt, she placed her hand on the hilt and tried to pull it out but Rosalind chided her playfully,
"Ah-ah, if I were you, I would not pull that out and die faster. That is a fatal spot and any movement would worsen the whole thing. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll be found while I’m gone. And if you’re not, well, I guess that depends on your luck," She bowed dramatically," It was a pleasure working with you, Aurelia. "
With those words said, Rosalind went back to the place where Islinda was bundled up and hoisted her over her shoulder.
She gave Aurelia one last glance, "I hope you learn not to look down on the others if you survive this, that’s my advice to you." Rosalind mimicked the same tone the Fae normally used on her.
Sidestepping her, Rosalind grabbed the door, peering out once more to check if the hallway was empty. The coast was clear and she started down the corridor hurriedly before a Fae came her way.
Leaving through the front entrance was risky because there were Fae guards stationed there. Had it been the palace, Rosalind wouldn’t have been able to walk with such a conspicuous load on her back without being noticed. But Prince Aldric was not a fan of having strangers guard his castle and took on the responsibility. Moreover, his Ravens did a good job of keeping him updated on the security of the castle.
The Fae guards he had were countable and merely for show since they hardly patrolled around the castle. With the dark Fae prince taking the security of his castle upon his shoulder, there was little to nothing they could do.
Not to mention the castle has never experienced any intrusion or attack since the Faeries of Astaria fear the dark Fae prince and never encroach on his territory. In one word, you could say being a guard of the castle was the best job one could apply for; the guards had fattened from laziness.
Rosalind planned to get to the kitchen since there was a backdoor that would lead her to the courtyard. Having worked in the castle for long, she knew of the small wrought gate in the courtyard she could use to sneak out of here.
Conversation at the end of the hallway made her heart skip a beat and her eyes widened as Rosalind quickly found a corner and hid on time. The hallway was dim and the chatters grew louder as they got close to her and she pushed herself further against the wall behind her.
Rosalind was practically flattened against the wall, pressing Islinda’s wrapped up body to her side while she controlled her heart pounding against her ribcage. The both Fae in question were lost in conversation and did not notice her nor look sideways, walking past her.
Rosalind let out a relieved breath as soon as they were gone. She wouldn’t be going through all of this hassle if she had not lost the medallion. She would simply vanish to the location of her choice and get rid of the human while her cover stays intact.
She will not kill Islinda, contrary to the Queen’s instruction and for her own good. Rosalind knew monarchs well and worked enough with High lords to know they only cared about themselves and would not hesitate to abandon them if the situation called for it. In case Queen Maeve fails to protect her once Prince Aldric comes after her, she would use Islinda as leverage to protect her own life. If Aldric wanted her back alive, he better not touch a hair on her.
Rosalind made it to the kitchen only for her eyes to widen when she found out there were a few Fae around. Damn it! Why were they still loitering around? They were supposed to have gone in for the night! Except, of course, Issac and his fiancée were still up and needed to be served.
Damn it!
Why was her luck so shitty today? If this was the case, then it was only a matter of time before one of them would go look for Aurelia. They couldn’t retreat for the night without the final supervision. In a case where Aurelia was not within reach, she was to be contacted. Just her luck.
Rosalind slowly retreated before any of them could see her, occupied with their gossip. Rosalind had to fall back, seeking an alternate route, her steps quiet. When she heard another set of voices coming her way, Rosalind had no choice but to dash for the nearest open window in a panic. Looking down, it was just one floor below and wouldn’t do much damage.
With the voices looming closer, Rosalind threw herself out the window, landing on the ground with a thud. She did not waste any second to check if Islinda was wounded knowing the Fae must have heard that and would come to investigate the sound.
She carried Islinda’s body and ran into the courtyard. With success right at her fingertips, Rosalind was exhilarated, her breath coming faster as she followed the familiar route she had explored, her eyes set on the small gate hidden away by a dense thicket.
Finally, she was here.
Great joy filled Rosalind as she reached for the gate and was about to destroy the lock when someone said from behind, "You there!"
Rosalind froze at that moment.
No way it can’t be. This cannot be happening! Not when she was so close to success!
Rosalind had a menacing expression as she slipped another knife from the hidden pocket in her clothes and slowly turned around only to meet.....
