Mated To The Cruel Prince
Chapter 334: It Came Down To This

Chapter 334: It Came Down To This

Rosalind watched Islinda’s body drop to the ground with a dull thump and her lips curled up in a sneer. This is why humans were not to be trusted! She had given her a way out, an easy path, but the fool made her choice and this was the consequence.

Had Islinda agreed to leave Aldric, she would have covered up her tracks so the dark Fae prince would never be able to find her. Good thing she had not high expectations for humans and Islinda did not fail to disappoint. She let her emotions blind her and failed miserably in the end. Now, she would have to carry out Queen Maeve’s orders. She had no other choice, the foolish Islinda made sure of it.

At once, Rosalind bent over Islinda’s unconscious body and began to search for the medallion. She found it hidden inside her bodice. Smart human. If only she had been smart enough to make the right decision.

Thankfully, the foolish human made things easy for her, Rosalind thought as she stared at the medallion dangling from her hand. She was still staring at the item with fascination when a meow drew her attention and the next Rosalind knew, the cat leaped at her face.

"What the... Damn you despicable creature!" Rosalind cursed as she fought with the creature that crawled ferociously at her face drawing blood.

With the cat blocking her face, Rosalind tripped on something and fell on her back with a painful exhale. Her face distorted with great rage, she was going to kill that damned creature. However, Prince Wayne finally got off her and when she got back to her feet, the cat was nowhere to be seen.

Rosalind was quite a sight to behold with her disheveled hair and the bleeding marks on her face. She was seething with white-hot rage as she scanned around for the Wrry cat who was no doubt trying to protect this mistress.

Oh no.

Rosalind was filled with dread when she looked down at her hands and realized that it was empty. Where was the medallion? Where had it gone? She was sure she had it in her.... The Wrry cat!

Almost immediately, the Wrry cat made an epic appearance by trotting out of its hiding place and dragging the medallion along by its paw. The instant Rosalind saw it, she charged at it but the cat retreated a step causing her to halt. She heard Wrry Cats were brilliant creatures but she never believed it until now.

The cat was on alert, ready to bolt if she took as much as a step. Rosalind swallowed, what was she going to do at this point? This was simply hilarious! How could she have thought that a simple Wrry cat would be the obstacle to her perfect plan?!

Rosalind crouched down, beckoning the cat, "Hello kitty, I’m not sure what you’re thinking but this is not what it looks like,"

Prince Wayne tilted its head, watching her with his intelligent eyes, although his tail swung side to side as if bored.

"Now, if you would give the medallion, perhaps then we can find help for your mistress and you can have a bit of snack too as a reward," Rosalind tried to entice the creature with her sweet words and a beckoning smile.

Rosalind took slow, careful steps towards it, hope rising inside of her when she was within touching reach and all she had to do was grab it! However, Prince Wayne moved at the exact time she charged forward causing Rosalind’s eyes to widen as the Wrry cat vanished right in front of her.

"No... no... no!" Rosalind screamed in frustration, searching the spot where Prince Wayne had once been even though it was obvious the cat was gone. It can’t be gone! How could a mere cat use the medallion?

Rosalind paced the room while pulling her hair, anger surging inside of her. The medallion had been her best chance of getting out of here with Islinda without being discovered. How could she have messed everything up?

There was no other option now, she had to sneak Islinda out of here, unless of course, she knew where the damned cat was. But how could she possibly know where that cat vanished? Nor could she read its mind. The Wrry cat could be anyway. She should have been more careful!

Rosalind knew without a doubt, her identity was out this time. Prince Aldric would know what she had done. This was her last time at the castle and she had to finish her task for Queen Maeve to at least hide her from Aldric and his wrath when he finds out everything. The Fae Queen was not magnanimous enough to keep a useless Fae by her side.

Time was essential to her new plan and Rosalind did not have enough of it. She stripped the bed of its cover, spread it on the ground, and rolled Islinda in it until she was bundled up and looked like a mummified corpse. Fae are stronger than humans and Rosalind was about to lift Islinda over her shoulder when a knock was heard on the door.

Fuck.

Rosalind’s heart began to beat fast as she wondered who it could be. Aldric was the first thought that crossed her mind, having assumed that Islinda lied about drugging him. If it was not him, could it be that Islinda had a backup plan? That the human could not trust her as much as she did not trust her too.

The knock sounded a second time and her heart raced faster while she thought of what to do.

"Young miss, it is I, Aurelia,"

Aurelia? What was she doing here? Had the Fae somehow sensed her plan? No, that couldn’t be the case else the Fae would have exposed her by now.

Rosalind did not say another word, being quiet on purpose so Aurelia moved on when she got no response. For two nights, Islinda has not slept in her room but Prince Aldric’s, Aurelia must only be checking out of necessity.

"Miss Islinda must be with Prince Aldric, they both vanished after dinner, remember?" said another Fae who must be with Aurelia, causing Rosalind’s heart rate to beat harder.

She can put up a fight against Aurelia if the need comes up, but two against one would be tough.

"Fine, let’s go then. The young miss did not need our help yesterday, today can’t be any different." Aurelia said and Rosalind sighed in relief as she heard the footsteps retreat.

Rosalind let out the breath she had been holding in. That was close. She gave it a bit of wait in case someone was still lingering before she opened the door a crack and peered out. The hallway was empty and it was time to move.

With the door standing ajar, Rosalind went back to pick up Islinda’s body only for someone to say,

"I should have known you were up to no good."

Rosalind stiffened, recognizing the voice without even moving. Aurelia. Fuck, she should have known.

She slowly rose and turned to face Aurelia with a calm expression, "Aurelia, what are you doing here?"

"Shouldn’t I ask you the same question?"

Rosalind waved her hand across the room, "I came to check up on Miss Islinda and here I am." She chuckled nervously.

"Exactly. Here you are, Rosalind, doing what?" Her eyes found the pile on the ground and she tipped her head in that direction asking, "What is that?"

"Something you need not concern yourself over with, Aurelia," Rosalind told her with a hardness in her voice, her countenance slowly changing.

"What is that, Rosalind?" Aurelia asked a second time, her voice firmer as she stepped into the room.

"Just turn around and pretend you saw nothing, Aurelia," Rosalind warned her.

"Turn around and pretend you aren’t kidnapping Miss Islinda, is that it?" Aurelia dared her, her aura changing as the tension in the room heightened as well.

There was a glint in Aurelia’s eyes as she realized the battle line had been drawn.

She cracked her neck, "Well then, I guess this is it. "

She and Aurelia moved at the same time. Large vines from outside burst the window and snatched Rosalind around the waist from behind and had her pinned against the wall, tightening against her form while Rosalind flung her hand and a gust of wind slammed into Aurelia knocking her to the ground

However, unlike Rosalind who was being restrained by the vines, Aurelia realized she was in a worse situation. When Rosalind slammed that wind into her, the Fae tactically flung a knife alongside which stabbed her in the gut and it wasn’t until the blood gushed out like a stream that she realized the knife was made out of iron.

"Oh no..." Aurelia stumbled back, losing control over the vines and Rosalind was able to free herself.

Rosalind walked over to where Aurelia sat up against the wall, trembling from the shock. She leaned in and whispered to the Fae, "I’m sorry that it came down to this, but I promised myself I’d kill you one day. It came sooner than I thought."

Her lips curled cruelly and she grabbed the hilt and twisted the knife in her guts as Aurelia coughed up blood.
